  1. I was concerned about my 237 originally when it was having issues last summer. I never did get the check valve apart as I wondered if it was leaking back too much. Though mine always starts quick. I did put a pressure gauge on the pump and mine idles maybe 15-20# and about 10# under load at WOT. Nothing spectacular. I did replace my lift pump as the original pump was only about 5# at idle and near nothing under load.......thus my lack of power. I've heard it should have more pressure, but I know I have new lines from tank to pump so there is no restrictions and new tanks so no issues there. I just tapped into pump line ran a 1/16" line out the passenger fender and zip tied the gauge to my air filter pipe. Still there, though I would like to get some kind of electrical sending unit and install the gauge in the dash. Not that I really need it, but it would tell you if a filter is getting clogged. The electrical units are pricey and just haven't wanted to buy it, yet. If the pressure is fine, have you ever adjusted the rack? I gave my 673 a few flats on the nut and it helped big time. Have to watch how many flats you give as fuel mileage will suffer severely(ask me how I know--though it ran like a scalded dog). I put a couple flats of the nut on the 237 and the pyro went from 900 to 1100 on a hard pull.
  2. I know the main auction will be a Norwalk(Summit Equip Motorsport Park), as the back end of the spectator side was jammed full of cars and they announced that during the Blue Suede Cruise next weekend that the auction will be going on. They had local sheriff parked and it was a "No access" allowed area so you could not go look at any of it. I saw one of just about everything ever made just from looking across the track since I was pitted down that way last weekend. I'm guessing 150+ cars/pickups were lined up.
  3. Don't know him. Only fellow around here with a 427 4 spd Fairlane wagon that ran stock class for years was Doug McDougal. Been likely 10 yrs since I've seen the car. Used to run at the Ford events around here.
  4. If you know the name Kurt Neighbors? he ran a SOHC funny car back in the 80's. He still has the car but runs an open body on it now on a few occasions. Well, about 10 yrs ago I saw him down at National Trails at the Hot Rod Reunion. I looked in the cockpit and saw levers. He manually shifts the lenco in that thing!! I was blown away. I've raced with him for years, but even more now he runs with me in the UMTR. He has a variety of cars he can run in the stick group. http://www.dragracermag.com/kurt-neighbors-afx-mercury-comet-is-still-winning-races-in-nmca-today
  5. Well even I have limits. I will not go see dragsters run, or "box"/electronic cars. What a waste and there is not much any driver input to race. Just let go of a button and let the car take over. BBBBOOOORRRRIIIINNNGGGG! Yes, watching slow cars is not really exciting, but at least that guy in the bug was out there trying. We have a group of bugs(some pretty fast ones actually) that run with our stick group on occasion. The group I run with, it's all the driver. No electronics. Just you and a shifter. I tell you what, since the group started in 2006, they have come a long way. I was bracket racing for years before the group started. Once the guys started running, they got much better and there aren't any slouches in our group.
  6. The whole bracket thing helped get anyone racing. You didn't have to run a specific car/engine/class, whatever. Just show up, put a number on it, cut a light and run that number(without breaking out). Yes, there is a LOT to it, but once you get involved it really isn't that big of deal. Yes, there are many "old timers" that think it is a wasted effort. But it isn't cheap to run those "first to cross the line" type classes. Just look at Pro stock. Heck even stock/Super Stock. Those guys spend MILLIONS of dollars to be "fastest". I ain't got that kind of money. Paul, can't wait to see that time slip!! My wagon has a '73 428 service block in it, with a 4.25 crank which makes it a 462ci. The car never had a 427 in it, always ran a 428. If you look really close it says "plus 1" (which meant 428). As for the "other car", it has a supercharged(Paxton) 312 in it! Here is an action shot.....
  7. A wet finger, yup, that's it. I have a small electronic weather station I use, but for nearly 20 yrs I used a little cheapo table top weather station with three dials on it. Won lots of races that way. The new electronic stuff works nice and have many more options of information. I don't have a predictor though, I didn't splurge for that. I have 22 yrs of information written in log books, so I can guess pretty close most times.
  8. What a HORRIBLE drive that is.................LOL!! Where's all the idiots on cellphones? Redlights, pot holes, etc, etc, etc.
  9. Norwalk(know as Summit Racing Equipment Motorsport Park) had their Fun Ford "Reloaded" this past weekend. Three day event. I won Nostalgia class on Sunday which put me in the run off against the Saturday winners. I won that round which put me into the final four run off for "King Ford". I lost in the semi finals with a .002 break out. It was only .01 difference in the reaction times so there was no wiggle room at all. Had a great time, the weather was spectacular all three days. https://www.summitmotorsportspark.com/news/81-news/1311-daily-race-results-for-fun-ford-reloaded-2 In Nostalgia Ford, where old school cool is never-ending, Larry Kortkamp and John Feistritzer each turned on a red light in their 1964 Ford wagon and 1957 Fairlane respectively, but Kortkamp, whose reaction time was -.012, took the win and put up a 10.96 on his 10.96 dial while Feistritzer put up a 12.53 on his 12.42 dial.
  10. Not sure what happened???
  11. Just rebuilt mine last winter. The only real seal needed is the cup seal on the piston. The rod has no air seal because the cup seal does all the work. I think mine had some kind of felt wiper? Or maybe it was rubber? I did have to punch a hole in the new cup seal(can't order it with hole). No big deal. Works great and doesnt leak a bit now. It used to constantly hiss. It now snaps shut/open with force instead of draining my air supply trying. I ordered it from Baum and got in a couple days.
  12. Just looked at pictures again, yup, has a bungee cord holding the door handle back so it doesn't fall open? I thought bungees holding the door closed was a Freightliner thing???? The single stick? Hmm, wonder if it is a 237/5spd in it?
  13. Oh, he forgot to mention it comes with $4500 in the glove box............
  14. Anyone need a "12 valve" 237?? LOL!! (read his ad and you'll notice he is a Cummins guy, therefore the 12 valve comment) http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mack-237-12-valve-inline-pump-Maxitorque-FREE-SHIPPING-/142414379381?hash=item21288ef975:g:Hl4AAOSwuMZZAuH1&vxp=mtr Mack 237 12 valve inline pump Maxitorque FREE SHIPPING! 15. I have a picture of my B model next to a new Titan. I called it "Big" and "lil" Enos Burdette.
  16. Ain't that the truth. If you have to pay to have this kind of stuff done this hobby gets REAL expensive. I told the fellow I'm building this Willys for, he has it made. He owns a fab shop, lasers, rolls, shears, powdercoating, etc. He still has a small fortune in the car and it would be so much worse if he didn't have all this equipment at his disposal. We just made some brackets for a/c on his one car. I used an old 352 block and took to his shop. We lasered out the brackets, made some pivot bushings, welded it and then powder coated it. Presto-chango.
  17. Another Thanks for the pictures Vlad. Interesting to see that side of the world, in real time.
  18. Bet if the trophy had a Volvo on it............you won't have ran so fast..........................
  19. Yup, lots of R models around our town growing up. I still remember the weed burner exhaust bellowing black so you could hardly see the street as they took off from a stop. Now it is just the boys in their pickups playing that game. My 237 came from a firetruck, no puff limiter on it. The turbo still has the tag that says "Muffling device".
  20. https://youngstown.craigslist.org/hvo/6183559135.html 1962 Mack - $15000 (youngstown) 1962 Mack B61 tractor Thermodyne turbo, phone calls only, thanks. Just found this, just posted 4 days ago. I've never seen it around.
  21. Just found out a buddy is going to St. Paul show as a vendor. If you see a guy with Ford FE and SOHC parts that say "FE POWER" on them, that is Jay Brown. I think he said something about being in front the grandstands somewhere? He will be displaying stuff in the TMeyer Inc area. If you are into FE stuff, Jay is the go to guy. He has run Hot Rod Drag week with Cammer powered cars for a number of years. Back a few years at Norwalk Raceway park, Jay was running his black '64 Galaxie with a 510ci Cammer going 9.40's for Drag Week. I cruised my blown 390 up and hung out for the day:
  22. The Good Guys show here in Columbus is July 8-9. I'm trying to get the Willys done for the guy to take down. It's close, but I'm not holding my breath right now. He is wanting me to work more time on it this weekend as he has a state inspection for next Wednesday and that ain't gunno happen even if I do work extra this weekend. Right now the nose piece is off and I'm wiring up the fans and getting the a/c plumbing finished up. I still have to wire the headlight assemblies then get the grille in the nose and the nose bolted back on. That isn't going to happen by Wednesday....there isn't enough time in the day. It does run: (minus the nose/hood a few weeks ago). The red car is getting a/c added after I get the orange car finished.
  23. Being able to run an old truck and make money.............that's HANDY!!!
