  1. Even my Ohio historical registration shows a GVW and the creeper cop asked to see it 20 yrs ago when the one time I was red lighted and went in. I too thought it was removed when I changed the license over. She also asked who owned everything. I told her it was all mine. I also showed my insurance and class A license. She questioned the car in the trailer and politely asked to see it. I graciously opened the door and she said "nice, thanks". On my way I went. Nothing was asked about compensation or the like even though the car is lettered and clearly a drag car. Never got pulled around on that scale again in the 20 yrs I've gone by it. But it was also marked "commercial trucks only" and I stopped going through.
  2. My .02. Not for Hire is no get of jail free card. Though I do have it on my trailer. I put "Historical Vehicle, Non Commercial" on my bunk. Don't tell them its a drag car(even though it's plastered all over the trailer)! Lol. I only stop at scales that say All Trucks. Most Ohio scales have changed to "commercial trucks" and I roll on by. Adjoining states vary and I follow the signs. Been 22 yrs with no real issues. I go by the thought of the truck is presentable and doesn't look like a scrap heap so I hope that it gets me a pass if comes the day. Few times I've gotten the long wait for a green light but I figure it's just johnny law admiring it.
  3. I kinda agree with 67R. I think trucks were a bit more spendy then we may think for the time. Big truck, big engine, lots of options, I'll put it at $58k.
  4. I still run about 70# in mine all around. The fronts just squat a touch from engine weight. You won't gain much ride quality until you get some frame length. That 5ft I put on mine made a World of difference. When it was 150", it was just too short and bucked over every crack in the road.
  5. Its all about "patina". 25 yrs ago it was just a "rusty pos" and wasn't worth anything. We live in strange times for sure.
  6. I like my 67-72 models best. The black 70 was my daily for 12 yrs! 302 and a toploader 4spd. Had a rowdy lil cam and 4.10 in the end. Even driving it 15 miles up the highway every day to work. Ive come to like 73-79 also as the early models are getting even harder to come by.

  9. I was stretching it so needed to use the new frame. Mine was only 150" single axle. Not much room for anything on the back! Lol. I originally was going to butt them together but they ended up a perfect slip and I had enough to overlap 5ft. The truck is my 69 F100. Had it since 1988. I was just a little pup then.
  10. Been there. Mine was a 91 ford frame. I was fortunate that a friend made my bumper for me. I hated trucks with R model bumpers that stuck out past the fenders.

  12. Just move it to the other side of the TP valve that it is in now. It should say "Service".
  13. That apparrently is not the brake light switch(well it is, but mounted in wrong line). Looking closely at the picture you posted, the item the switch is mounted to says "tractor emergency". My guess is that is the tractor protection valve, which is where the trailer hoses attach. The switch would need to be on the "service" side of that valve(look at other side). Which would only get air pressure when brakes are applied. I think that is why it was disconnected from previous owner.

  17. When I first started my 237 with no nose on the truck I used a piece of paper I had laying around. It stuck nicely and was not completely covering the whole radiator.
  18. Get it running and pull the hand throttle out to like 1000 rpm. Let it run for 1/2hr or so. Make sure the temp is up, block radiator if shutters don't work.
  19. So is it oil lubrication or fuel lubrication that controls that? Time for some fuel additive and let it run before parking it?

  22. Older friend used to run a tandem R with 237/5 spd local asphalt. Never fast, but got the load there reliably. Diabetes finally took him out of the seat for good. Being a drag racer, I'd love to have "more" then my 237. But it gets the job done reliably.
  23. Mine was weak a few years back and wouldn't keep pressure under boost. I mounted a small pressure gauge to my air cleaner(tube running under the hood) to be able to monitor it running down the road. It would drop under full boost. A reman pump fixed that issue. I know some trucks have dash gauges but with a B dash there is no room for it. Talked with Ron when he was over for Ashland show. It'd been a few years since I have seen him also.
  24. I got one at Mack a few years back when mine got weak. Details are fuzzy now..... Long time no hear Morgan? How's things over Indiana way?
