  1. I clearly remember seeing petite female truckers on the road and in truck stops when I was a kid. That was in the 70's when 99% of the trucks had clutches, air-ride suspension was a luxury, and women didn't dare wear a short skirt when behind the wheel of a GMC Astro. Uh....anyway, it seems like a lot of time and money is being spent to overcome the lack of ambition epidemic that's sweeping America.
  2. I knew it!...no, I didn't.
  3. Wow! I think that somehow translates into getting to 3rd base! I think this is part of the dumming down of the job and they're just trying to disguise it with this "female-friendly' nonsense. Auto-tightening straps and chains are probably in the works for potential flatbedders. I'm still stuck on this gauge cluster thing. So far all I can think of is more idiot lights and less of those confusing needles and numbers.
  4. Welcome aboard. It must have been very hard for your Dad to start over after 21 years of service for one company. What did he do next?
  5. There was a video on YouTube a few years back of an Australian driver doing a 90 degree back with a set of doubles. I believe it was a B-train, but that's still a challenge.
  6. I don't understand why the placement of cluster gauges would need to be changed to a "female friendly" arrangement.
  7. Not sure of the date of this spec sheet, but we have a trifecta:
  8. Congratulations. It looks VERY clean for it's age. Pitt Ohio had probably a few hundred FL70's at one time and they held up well doing P&D work. They definitely got there money's worth out of them.
  9. I've always felt that a new driver that could drive a synchro'd stick was at a disadvantage when learning to drive a non-synchro because they would have to make the transition between "single" and double-clutching depending on which vehicle they were driving. An "automatic" driver would be starting from scratch. Either way, manuals are still quite common in new heavy trucks and anyone who is not capable of learning to drive one (physical disabilities excluded, of course) should not be able to obtain a cdl. There are certainly more difficult situations a driver can find themselves in beyond upshifting and downshifting.
  10. I know I've said this before but the axle forward CH/Pinnacles have a family resemblance to the R and B models that stands out when the truck is in one of the classic colors.
  11. The driver can choose what speed the brake will come on at. I'm not sure if that's common these days but I've only seen on/off or 2-3 stage types. It's a pretty cool feature.
  12. It's hypnotic.
  13. An MP7 rolling coal!
  14. My family had the 1st edition Colander of Truth but it didn't have all those lights and wires. It was the hot pasta being poured over my head that made me talk.
  15. There goes the neighborhood.
  16. I was referring to just a single pup, lol. The reaction time is way to fast compared to what I'm used to.
  17. Good to hear everyone is okay. I hope they didn't hit the Trans Am.
  18. I have no trouble putting a 45'-53' where it needs to go but hook me up to a pup and it's like watching a dog chase it's tail.
  19. I didn't think a POTW thread that was void of Winfall Wimmin could still be so tasty. Shoulda saved the slightly green ribs for St. Patrick's Day. They would've been full green by then.
  20. Putting it on with Swift?
  21. Hugh and Rick, now there's 2 black eyes for the trucking industry. The best (or worst) example of why Hugh has no business sitting behind the wheel of a truck was in an episode when he had 3 large welders on a flatbed. The load was not properly secured and shifted, causing damage to all 3 machines. Hugh said it wasn't his problem because he didn't load it. Freight with wheels on a flatbed trailer and he never checked or tightened the straps. Loser.
  22. All of the above.
  23. I spoke to a driver of one of the Cascadias. 620 mile range but it doesn't pull well on the hills.
  24. Uh...I usually agree with you when it comes to avoiding strangers, but I think she would have been goo for what ails you. Glad you made it home and are feeling better. I got food poisoning on the road and was stuck at the Sheets in Mount Jackson, VA for a day and a half. I couldn't even get out of the bunk to get my drink out of the cup holder. When one is sick, there's no place like home (clicking my heels).
