  3. nice unit. question I have is location of two speed button on shift lever? it's on left side closer to driver. sitting here splitting the make believe button and trying to recall; buttons were mounted on right side of lever making it easy for 3rd and 4th fingers to pull lever up/ down. guess using thumb works .

  6. I've driven a GMC that you shifted like that, and some 5 speeds that you shift 4 low- 4 high then straight to 5 high. I actually asked him on the phone about this when I first talked to him, but I forgot what he said. I'll ask him when he brings it. As far as 2 speed axles go, I haven't driven one at all for many years. Last one was an International Loadstar lime truck that H.H. Moore used to have. I did drive a couple of trucks with Super 10 transmissions though, and always said they were "like driving a pulpwood truck with a 5 speed and 2 speed rear". 🤣
  7. similar to a 20-speed quad becomes an 18 speed , ratios close or conflict making unnecessary or impractical to use . doesn't say they can't be used. out come ????

  12. 4 low ▶️ 5 low ▶️ 4 hi ▶️ 5i, last shift quick to keep the revs up, brings back lots of memories when I learned to drive the GM powered R190 gearbox, no syncro - double clutch/rev and slide the cogs in Great buy, congratulations. 2 exhaust pipes out the side to let the V8 be heard.
  13. First, (1st) of all thanks to everyone for their input, help and guidance. Second, (2nd) I wound up passing on the Mack. My little voice inside just said NO. They say first impressions are everything. There was just something about the truck and the hard sell tactic the seller was pushing. One of the first flaws I noticed on the truck was the hole in the intake tube. That would have been the first thing I would have fixed. How obvious of an easy fix would it have been for the seller to just temporarily fix the problem with duct tape. I have no idea how long the truck was run that way. It is an issue I didn't ignore while looking at the truck. I don't want to talk bad about the seller but there were a lot other issues that turned me away from buying it. Third, (3rd) perhaps the worse part is I bought a GMC - Combination with an Equipment Trailer. I was looking for a (not for hire) truck and trailer to haul around my Skid Steer and Mini Excavator. Found the GMC for sale with a trailer for slightly more then the Mack alone. Sorry, to the faithful. Maybe I shouldn't even mention GMC? Well at least It isn't a FORD! When I started out looking for a dump truck I would have preferred a Mack but I was willing to settle on a JIMMY. Definitely wasn't interested in a FORD of any kind. If there is any consolation? I had he Jimmy Hauled home on a lowboy trailer drawn by a Mack Tractor.
  14. No reason you can't run low rear in O/D front. The rear doesn't care, a worn driveshaft might as you are pushing it at its fastest speed, something not always done in high. It would be like saying you can't run any rear fast. It isn't the rear but the driveshaft that has limits. Run a rear real fast and you'll have heat issues, but unless it already has a problem, it will not make one. Without knowing the trans ratio it is hard to say what is "progressive" and what is not. My K-7's go 4-lo, 5-lo, 4 hi 5 hi (working 5 speed) but I find the steps too close together to be of much use, with a big step between 3hi and 4 lo. I ran my Marmon with a .73 od in top (15 O/D) in low but had to be careful not to push the driveshaft speed above critical speed. When I would feel it I would upshift the rear and down the main. Really pulling hard in 15th low, was close to 14th (direct) in high, but there was a slight difference, nothing the 3406B couldn't deal with.
  15. Most times they say don’t run 5th with the axle in low is because it’s not a progressive shift from 4th over. With 5th being overdrive and depending on the two ratios in the rear it actually makes 5th under slightly lower than 4th over. At least that’s the way it was on ford and Chevy medium duty trucks with Eaton two speed rears. If 5th was direct then 5th under was a progressive shift from 4th over.
  16. Do some checking.. I have heard that in 5th AND you run the 2 speed rear on the low side it tears things up????? 4th over to 5th over and back..

  20. Zina wants to paint it to "make it our own". She really likes these colors, and so do I. Not something you see every day, which is what she wants. But then I showed her this picture and she liked this color too, and the wood body.
  21. I had told him when I picked it up I wanted him to tell me everything I needed to know about it. And he said today the best way to do that was face to face, and I agreed. So he said he would deliver the truck here and when he backed it off the trailer in our driveway he would be as happy as we were. I doubt that, but anyway, he seems to be a class act.
  22. So, Stevie called me today, like he said he would, to talk about picking this truck up. He had already told me that he would be out of town this weekend. He had to fly- in an airplane, he can't really fly himself- to Iowa and drive a firetruck back to Maryland. I could not go to Maryland next weekend because we had plans that we made months ago. And he called today and said he had gotten the check and as far as he was concerned it was my truck. So he offered to bring that truck here on a trailer with his pickup for expense money. I had a good friend, also a BMT member, tell me the truck load rate would be $1250, but he would do it for $500 and a Hamm's. He also said he was pretty well covered up now and it would probably be about 3 weeks before he could do it. Then Stevie called and it was almost like he was reading my mind. He had already figured the mileage, his approximate gas mileage, and expenses and said he would deliver that truck next week for $790 as soon as he got back from Iowa. So I told him to bring it.
  23. Can't say as I've ever seen a tachograph that only registered to 35 mph. 🙂
