So, Zina decided she wanted to get some chickens. As for me, I'd just as soon get chicken from KFC and eggs from Kroger. But there's a saying, something about "happy wife..."

So I've been working on this chicken coop that we got at Tractor Supply.

They loaded it with a forklift and It was way too heavy for me to lift, I can only lift 490 lbs.

So I had to open the box on the truck

and carry it to the jobsite

piece by piece. We've made decent progress on it though...

I guess.

I'll try to finish it tomorrow.

I expect you to provide a portion of concrete jobs soon. Chickens use to dig and are especially skilled doing that about making passages below fences. My neighbour used to farm some and from time to time I have been called to allow him to go to my property for catching an escapee.

Besides that the coop turned out great!

Yep, and remember last year I saw a fox twice. Saw a raccoon on the camera at night a couple of times. I haven't seen coyotes but there's so many around they used to have a bounty on them, maybe they still do. There's always hawks flying around too, so I'm going to cover the extended run with wire so they won't call in an airstrike.

Looks as nice as a Barbie house on the picture.

I may be too seriouse on a concrete basement but from the look you will be in need of some strong sheet material to put close to the net walls at the inner side and sunk into the ground 4-5". Otherwise chickens would make a tunnel really soon and enjoy freedome until meet a fox or the dogs.

I have kept chickens for over 15 years there is 22 plus Fred the rooster in the henhouse. One time I had a fox checking out the chicken run he led a short life it ended that day. Every morning I have two eggs from the day before, there is some upkeep you have to change out the wood chips I spread on the floor and cleanout the layer boxes we have two Bernese mtn. dogs and a border Colley and a little guy that is very intent on barking at everything that moves so we don't see too many critters sculking around the chicken coop I keep my granddads single shot 22 and I keep a 22 that is scoped for longer shots and for anything larger I keep a loaded 44 mag handy that gun came in handy when a bear got too interested in my goats

I gave a .22 Remington Fieldmaster pump that was my grandfather's to my niece, maybe I should get another .22. Everything I have would be overkill, a 12 gauge and a .30-06. I have a snubnose .38 but the chances of me actually hitting anything with that are slim and none.

my guess it would depend on how close your neighbors / other homes are. a 20 ga with bird shot !! 20 ga will do in the rodents . the bird/ animal lovers may not take kindly to seeing a wounded animal run or be shot.

I made a little more progress on on the chicken house today, and mowed the grass. I ran the tiller through the garden yesterday. It's time to plant, and the grass was knee high but I'm way behind because of the chickens. The boss keeps coming out and changing things after I've already done it a different way. But we're getting there, got the hardware cloth started around the bottom and some across the top. I changed the tarp too, the boss didn't like it.

Here's the view from the back porch- the big white thing on the right is the box it came in. It had a nice picture on it, in case I needed to see what something was supposed to look like. I was using it to set my tools and equipment on too.

I got a tick off my arm yesterday, so tiny you could barely see it. But it itched like crazy all night last night, and now my arm is red and swollen where the bite is. I put some Neosporin on it, and alcohol, and it's oozing nasty stuff. I'm gonna keep an eye on it.

You need to get some "Sawyer's Permethrin"(my choice) insect repellent at WalMart or "Repel Permethrin" at Tractor Supply. l spray my coveralls till they are damp then let them dry a couple days hanging up.

Wife said the looks of your arm you need to get to the doctor. My brother -in -law got lyme disease from a tic while camping and it's nothing you want to deal with.    .....Hippy

My wife told me yesterday that I should go to the doctor. I told her that if it wasn't better this morning I would. But it does appear to be better.

We have some of that Repel, and Deep Woods Off, and Cedarcide. I sprayed some of all of it on me. But come to think off it, I only sprayed my legs.

I think ticks are more powerful than they used to be, they scare the crap out of me. I know several people myself who have alpha gal from tick bites. You can't eat red meat when you have that. And this tick was really tiny! It probably stayed a while longer than normal because it was so tiny I thought it was part of those scratches on my arm from the wire, until it started itching.

I probably said here before when it happened, but when I still lived in Gladys I had several tick bites that I got picking blackberries in the cutover behind the house. I woke up the next morning and my face and lips were swollen, my hands were swollen to the size of small hams, and my- well, other things were swollen that weren't supposed to be. So I rushed to the doctor and he said "it's probably an allergic reaction to a tick bite, but I don't think you have lyme disease".  Really - you think?  Anyway, he gave me a shot in the ass and gave me a prescription for some pills that I took for a week or so and that was it. But ever since then, to this day my hands are super sensitive to heat and cold. Warm water on my hands feels like it's scalding hot and if it's under about 40 degrees I have to wear gloves because they feel like they're freezing.
