I found it a shop a buddy of mine told me about after the one shop I had gone to since 2008 to do my inspections on all my vehicles closed, the owner retiring and selling the building in 30 days. So with a name and directions I found this place. And while they are doing the Inspection on my 08 GMC HD3500 diesel I see this thing across their lot dejected in the corner. And from a distance I thought is was a Volvo, so I asked it they minded If I went and looked at it and once I got close the Bulldogs on the mirrors gave it away. But it was weird, and being a combat vet, a paratrooper my whole carrier I guess I'm a but weird too so it was perfect. I look it over but its locked, so I ask "what's the deal with this thing and do they have keys"? So the old dude take me to the office and I meet the owner and we hit it off so he hands me the keys saying "Its been sitting there for almost 5 years... So I already going, going to need batteries, pull all the filters, add fresh fuel, prime yada yada" in my head. I go out to the truck and open the side door tot he box, its lined and insulated it about 100 degrees in the sun about 80 inside that box. Got cabinets and shelves built in and a Mack Coleman Heat and AC unit on the roof. Stuck on the wall above the desk is a Gaston County Bomb Squad sticker... Well my 1st job in the Army was a 12B Combat Engineer and we blew stuff up and I'm the reason you cant do a controlled detonation of more that 250 pounds of explosives anymore after I did a 850 pound cratering charge a long time ago.... So I was this is a sign.... I unlock the cab and its clean, some trash but clean. For shits and grins I put the key in the ignition push in the clutch and she started right up! Another sign, this is supposed to happen and it's like she was waiting for me to find her.... I was shocked, she built pressure, the clutch feels good the breaks released and its got 111k miles on her. So the deal was struck. Doing a quick search online this forum came up with posts about this model so that's why I'm here. She is a weird duck a Renault/Mack and well its Effing French so yeah it's gonna be weird. SO I may need to pick your guys brains. 26000 pound GVW so below CDL and has the 6.2 Diesel inline 6 with a Eaton 6 speed manual tranny Millennial anti theft device factory and what appears to be a aftermarket installed AC unit over the floor hump and under the dashboard. My plan is on making her into a RV after a bunch of TLC. But I need to find a windshield 1st and I can see that maybe a task.... And yes my truck is a Schrodinger's Mack It is and is not a Mack truck being a Renault import... And it's ok I've had rocks thrown at me before in Albania, Iraq, Kosovo and Haiti so I'm used to it, and I expect a few from Mack purist's... But I know what real Mack's are, being form Canton CT, and Canton Village Construction's fleet of Mack trucks were my across the street neighbor's. Popular Post SSGOldSchool68W3P Posted Saturday at 09:12 PM Author Popular Post Share Posted Saturday at 09:12 PM (edited) Well the Midliner has landed< I gave her a quick once over checking fluids, coolant and for leaks of anything and tire pressures and added 15 gallons of fresh diesel into the tank along with Lucas Fuel additive. Add with the plate secured on the back we set off with my buddy following behind in my HD3500 just in case we had some issues. But other than the tach & some lights not working and the the trip was uneventful. She ran fine rides surprisingly well, I think that body is heavy.... But not going to set any land speed records in this rig that's for sure... But I also don't know if maybe they have the throttle limited cause this used to be a County Truck. We shall see after I really start digging into her. But she does have some neat decals inside that will have to stay. But the wood shelves on the left side are the 1st to go... Might also see if I can rig up a (shore power) plug for the rear body. She has AC/heat in the back all wired in but I guess the Gen set was removed before she went up on auction but has plenty of lights and outlets already wired into the box. Which will reduce my workload to making her an RV. @Joey Mack Yes I'm in North Carolina still didn't stray too far from Ft Bragg after being medically retired in 2016. So any copies of anything from your manuals would be amazing and thank you for the offer. SSGOldSchool68W3P Posted 12 hours ago Author Share Posted 12 hours ago (edited) @mechohaulic My 98 MS 200P does not have any Mack Logo on the cab only the Bulldogs on the Mirrors was the give away, but the earlier models1st Gen Midliners did in the 80's looking at picture of them. When I 1st saw what is now my truck from about 100 yard away I 1st thought it was a old Volvo cabover. SSGOldSchool68W3P Posted 11 hours ago Author Share Posted 11 hours ago Today was productive. Got all the cargo box clearance lights tail lights working today. The truck had been sitting for almost 5 years and the cab release was stuck, will got that freed up and the cab tiled forward after I cleaned out all the crap out of it. But I was able to find one of the Bomb Tech's business cards under the divers seat so that was cool. Cab clearance lights are now all working also, headlights high low all good but I do need to replace the left headlight all the reflective material has come off and the truck looks like it has a black eye. My issue is turn signals, got nothing I don't hear the flasher unit cycling but I also will have to find out where it is cause the fuse block for the truck is tiny, and will need to check fuses also. Will also have to check the AC compressor I don't hear it engaging so once gain I'll start with fuses and go from there. Will pick up fuel and air filters tomorrow cause they had to come from the Hub. The more she runs the happier she seems after sitting 4 plus years, I put 10 gallons with regular Lucas into the tank because the gauge was reading zero and Once on the road the gauge started working adding another 5 gallons to to the tank and a bottle of Lucas Stage 2 cleaner and she seems much happier I don't know how much old fuel was in the tank but after a 10 mile test run today she was much happier But 100% good fuel and new filters will also help.. Cab and engine got sprayed down with Simple Green, the cab also being scrubbed down with simple green and water in a bucket and just for a quick initial clean the cab looks much better. But Bruno was not much help he would not tell me if the break lights were working. He would just pant and look at me, but he did seem to enjoy chilling in the cargo box. Question: Where should I migrate future progress in the forum? So when you are inside the dash, pull the wiper fuse. So its a classic with me!!!! Looks fantastic after the clean up....
