Bob may be right on the rusted to the drum??? Get a big FN hammer and beat on both the drum and brake shoes with the parking brakes in either released or caged.. IF you hear a good "POP" then they will be free and released by the return springs..

If the wheels turn, but in opposite directions, the brakes are not stuck (at the wheels) but something is preventing the driveshaft from turning. In gear is the 1st thing to check, frozen driveshaft brake, if equipped. Damage in the transmission, all come to mind.

Your hand brake/park brake/or what ever you call it in Yanky land is stuck on

Looks like the brake handle is in the released position here so I'm guessing the shoes are stuck on the brake drum on the tail shaft on the rear of the transmission

Maybe easier to just un bolt the tail shaft at the diff and tie it out of the way as you were only planning on using the cab I believe

Dropping the tail shaft will make it much easier to shift about

I had to re read the thread to remember what was what

This gave me a chuckle

Even more of a chuckle was the grumpy bum replies from some of more mature (Old and forgotten what it's like to be young and have some fun) members

Dunno, actually I do know, I  remember been young and silly and running hot dog mufflers on a 3 inch exhaust doing our best to rattle the possums out of the trees on a Friday and Saturday night as we tore around town

Some of you blokes need to try and remember how much fun was had with a loud exhaust on a hotted up car

If you wanna jake every gear as you roll through town, go your hardest, have some fun, your gunna be old and past it in the blink of a eye

Go on "BRING THE THUNDER" ha ha ha

Thank you Paul!

That was my first thought, and will try to see that it is loose.  Trouble with buying something off the tree line is, you never quite know why it was parked there. Let just hope it is the brake that is stuck, and not gear damage in the transmission that parked it however many years ago it got put there.

I had hoped to try to use both engine and transmission to start,  but ultimately, will use newer engine and transmission as the project progresses.

Glad I could bring a smile with the Jake brake meme...Still young at heart,..

I had thought about that very thing by removing the driveshaft.  I am going to try to see if the parking brake is locked up before I pull it, as it would be nice to slow it down coming off the trailer I am going to put it on to get it home.  Blocks will certainly be used if I do pull the shaft.

Don't need that heavy one rolling over me!

Yea, still haven't been able to see if the engine is locked up or not...But just looking at the truck as a whole, it's going to take a whole lot of lovin' to get it back into shape.

If you do NOT have a winch trailer, you can chain a block pulley to the front of the trailer and park a wrecker at 90 degrees to the front. Loading or unloading can be a long hard job just using a chain and a ratchet come along... Ask me how I know!!!!

unfortunately today I did not take a video of a '70's Terex loader with front flat tire being unloaded from a triaxle low bed using  another large loader. and Barnum Bailey thought they had a circus act . owners says to me :" got another project for you "! gee thanks I need some more. 4 cyl Detroit . stop cable broke ' they've been shutting it off with emergency stop !!!WTF  you can't do that you will suck in the dam seals. don't you understand why it is called an EMERGENCY shut off .

If I were you right now, I would pull out all the fuel injectors and start dousing the cylinders with mystery oil. Let that seep into the piston rings. Even shoot it in there a few times right now while you’re not working on it even if the engine is stuck sometimes if you catch it early on, it’s just the rings rusted to the cylinder walls and it has a turbo charger. Take the inlet oil line off and do the same thing with the bearing. You might have to hand turn the blades but for now shoot a bunch of oil in there preferably mystery or transmission fluid. My turbo was frozen when I first bought my truck, but I was lubing it  and turning the blades after a while, it loosened up good luck same thing with your fuel pump. Other guys will probably have a better description of lubricating the pump. Good luck.

So, funny, but not funny story...Back when I had first got the truck, I had mixed up a batch of ATF and acetone to pour in through the injectors.  Put in a glass bottle (old little boy soldier that met an early demise, aka, drank the rum faster than should of) and put it on the shelf for warmer days.

Fast forward to a couple weeks ago...Have to sell the house, and move the truck.  Said bottle gets put in the back of my truck, and we head to a storage unit to drop off the load that we put in the trailer.

As we are unpacking, I start to smell something...Turns out, one of the kids went into the box of the truck to get a gas can out, and then slammed my tailgate.  No need to slam it, but being 12, not much muscle.  Walk around the trailer, and see a big puddle forming behind my truck....

Bottle had broke, and spilled all it's contents in the box, and then running down the side of the bumper to the ground.  If you got close, it was hard to breathe....Luckily, had a bag of floor dry in the trailer, so tossed that on the mix to sop it up.  Now get to mix another batch, and try again.

Well, ain’t that a bitch and I hate spilling oil. My garage is pretty new and the cement floor looks really good. Anytime I spill oil I tried to get it picked up right away. I got a bottle of cement floor cleaner a while back. I have not tried it yet but when I get done with my rear round, I’m going to drive it out of there and see if I can scrub up some of the old oil spots good thing you had floor dry handy
