Fire consumes Museum in Roanoke, Virginia

Since opening to the public in 2000, the Commonwealth Coach & Trolley Museum in Roanoke, Virginia, has educated visitors about the history, use and efficiency of public transit, while also providing transportation services for area non-profits and public events. As The Roanoke Times reports, a two-alarm fire that began in the early morning hours of November 1 has destroyed the museum’s home on 18th Street S.W., and with it, nearly half its collection of coaches.

Sadly  sprinklers and direct fire alarm were not in CC&T’s  budget, nor was installing and fueling a heating system in a rented building to prevent the sprinklers from freezing, breaking, and causing a flood in the winter.  The “bus barn” was an old industrial building, but the rent was cheap. It kept many of the buses out of the rain, except for a few leaks in the roof, and protected them.

IMO a fire suppression system or even a direct link fire detection system is a must for both our house and my shops. I can not understand someone having even a one  collector vehicle and not protecting it even minimally.

Money, sex, and fire; everybody thinks everyone else is getting more than they are!
