That was on the news here today. Their families are requesting they be included on the Wall.

Let's be honest, looking back, this was the kind of news that they went out of their way to either cover-up, down-play with the cooperation of the three major US medias (ABC, CBS, NBC) or distort (disinformation).

"Nam" is the reason the Evans was in the South China Sea. Why aren't those men's names already on the wall?

Because according to the DOD and the USPACOM the Evans was removed from the gun line off the coast of Vietnam and moved out of the combat zone for Operation Sea Spirit. with 5 other Destroyers and the Melbourne So in the Feds eyes they were no longer in harms way. .  Eventually they'll get recognized. It took 65 years for the WAC's and U.S. Merchant Marine to get WWII veteran status and benefits .Took 40 years for us to get "welcomed home" here .

Like teamstergrrl stated awhile back all of us, the kiiws and Aussies were there because we were stupid.

As for the news all the Vietnam news of the day heard in the U.S. was bullsh*t to make the soldiers ,pilots and Naval personnel that were in country look like baby killers and dopers. That's how we were portrayed by the media and likewise greeted coming into S.F. by the people, the media and the government.

In my opinion, the whole point of the exercise was to ensure SEATO* navies could function well together. The (now defunct) Southeast Asia Treaty organization was created in 1954 for the specific reason of fighting the spread of communism in that region, which translates into fighting communist North Vietnam if and when.

Thus my thought is, had there been no Vietnam war, the Evans would never had been in the incident. The exercise was intended to hone the skills of interacting US and Australian forces actively involved in 'Nam. And thus, the names of those sailors should already be on the wall in DC.

I did not say that they should not be included. I said the government moves at their own pace. Maybe if John Kerry, John McCain and Oliver Stone would be more vocal and forward (as three of the most highly decorated men of the war every body listens to them) If the American citizens would do something positive for them as in letters, petitions or calls to aid their being recognized? As combat vets we try to take care of our own for most all needs and honor.... even our so called enemies  No one else gives a crap for any Vietnam vet.. It is the politicians and most civilians who have the problem with doing whats right. .Have you or any of your people done anything at all? Even spend a few minutes to do anything more than thoughts and links? My VVA post has.

FYI the Evans was under Command of the U.S. Military Assistance Command, Vietnam,  CINPAC ordered the Evans to be released to the U.S. Pacific Fleet Command  who assigned the Evans and 5 other ships to work with the Australian Navy. It had no involvement with SEATO.

Relax Paul, nobody thought that you did say that.

I myself am only saying that I feel their names should already be on the fall for the reasons I mentioned.

I thought it was a SEATO exercise................

The Melbourne–Evans collision was a collision between the light aircraft carrier HMAS Melbourne of the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) and the destroyer USS Frank E. Evans of the United States Navy (USN). On 3 June 1969, the two ships were participating in SEATO exercise Sea Spirit in the South China Sea. At approximately 3:00 am, when ordered to a new escort station, Evans sailed under Melbourne's bow, where she was cut in two. Seventy-four of Evans' crew were killed.
