How would you rate a 300 with a 10spd for tri-axle work?

It Depends on a couple things. Most important in my mind are:

1. what do you mean by triaxle work? There is a huge difference and range in-between the guy getting paid by the ton/mile and a guy who hauls an occasional load of stone but mostly works onsite.

2. Gearing is more important than HP. Transmission along with your axle ratio. Will determine your crawl ratio and your road speed. You need to be low enough to not be slipping clutch when you are creeping around but you won't want to be gear bound if hiway speed is important to you.

3. Since you said its a DM I'll assume ( never seen anything less than 44s in one) its up to the Task. But you might not like the light weight or you might not care goes back to 1

This is my 300hp 2v all loaded up with blue metal. Over 16 ton on the back, mind you it was only driven on our property but my brother who was driving said it barely changed from empty.

10 speed trtxl 1070 with 4:42 rears.

Ok, I am willing to look ignorant.. what is blue metal?

We used ours with mack 10 speed in a tandem dump and hauled up to 22 tons no problem. Not a real lo hole forward but you have 5 reverse gears that are plenty low for backing up loaded. If you get stuck, dump and then pull out no problem....In my opinion beats the heck out of others because you have ten road gears as we have many hills around here.

I don't know anything else about the truck, like if it has a Mack 10spd or Fuller. Don't know the ratio in the rears, either. It's a 1971 DW 685 tri-axle.

The intended use would be hauling for hire by the ton. Not sure how much business I can drum up, but that's the direction I'm going. I could see the truck sitting as much as it is hauling.
