  1. Yarnall, Glad to hear it hasn't been scrapped!
  2. I have no idea if it is or not. Ed Wood was wondering what happened to it.
  3. On Facebook Ed Wood retired (PGFD) Maryland wrote: A VEHICLE WITH A HISTORY...... And a number of homes over the years. It was built new for the Silver Spring VFD (Montgomery Co. MD). It may be "all Mack" but the body style suggests Allegany Body Works. As Silver Spring was putting it up for Sale, the Berwyn Heights VFD (P.G.Co. MD) was looking for something to replace their Squad which suffered serious damage in a collision. After serving Berwyn Heights for a few years, it was purchased by the Arundel VFD (A.A.Co. MD) in 1975 Arundel had a good bit of work done to it. Repainted from it's original all Red to White over Red. Photo Credit to Johnny Floyd II from the collection of Royal Blue Ltd. My wife took a pic of me beside it in 2000 at Lititz Pa
  4. Fxfymn raises a good point on underpowered apparatus. Some the old the Ford “C’s with gas engines acted like turtles at times. The Cat equipped units ran better.
  5. 5 out of our 9 fire extinguishers (yes I am excessive compulsive) in the house, garage and cars are on the recall. Luckily the others are 5 and 10 pounders with metal fittings. The Mrs. Is not overwhelmed with 10-pounder sitting in the kitchen while the 5 are out of service, until we get the replacements. The attachment is the listing of the recalled units. US_Plastic+Handle+Product+ID+Guide.pdfUS_Plastic+Handle+Product+ID+Guide.pdf Here's the link, click on recall. Really a simple task to get a replacement. http://www.kidde.com/home-safety/en/us/ You can never have too many fire extinguishers or first aid kits!
  6. Very sad news, they had a nice collection of buses. Pieces of history gone forever.
  7. Met him last week in Allentown. Nice truck and a cousin to my DE
  8. Billy T, Sorry for the delayed response. Were Ed W Texter trucking color scheme red cab, gray body and yellow lettering on black background? I remember someone in Pittsburgh that ran trucks with that color in the 60's and it may have been him.
  9. Billy T, -----My family left PA in 1960. but I vacationed in West View until about 1966 1fter I got my drivers lic.
  10. Love my DE and happy to have it. 1942-- and only the 3rd owner.
  11. Saw the 1928 model fire truck shown above in Des Moines this past summer. May have started its life as tractor for TDA. Does anyone know where it was from?
  12. My question still stands "After all that does anyone know if he bought the piece?"
  13. I agree with bulldogboy, NFPA 1901 the Standard for Automotive Fire Apparatus and NFPA1906 pretty stringent on what must be incorporated in Fire Apparatus. Building Fire Apparatus has become a niche' market. My first assignment was as layout man on the backstep of a B85 model. then later worked off a CF--fond memories of tough trucks that kept working when others failed.
  14. I grew up in the North Hills of Pittsburgh in Longview Acres which was built above McNight Rd which was the main road heading north out of Pittsburgh pre-interstate days. My best friend and I would spend countless hours watching EAZOR trucks both coming and going from US Rt 19 just north toward Wexford. There was a hill just north of Cumberland Road and they would whistle going down and labor going up slamming gears ---the sights and sounds still resonate in my mind. The google newspaper article was interesting—thanks for posting! Another old Pittsburgh company the ran north to I think Erie was Lightning Express. Their colors were cream and red, and I think the ran Internationals—Anybody else out there remember Lightning Express?
  15. I'm glad to know it wasn't just me that thought posts from Teamster Grrrl off the chart.
  16. After all that does anyone know if he bought the piece?
  17. Only thing I have to say is the 8v71 was an awesome prime mover in many pieces of Fire Apparatus (excluding MACKs) back in the 70’s -- 80’s during my FD days. I loved operating them over the few Cummins the County had which would barely get out of their own way on takeoff but they did perform great on the open road once you got them going. I feel while operating in an urban setting with many stop signs and traffic light the Detroit's were best back in the day.
  18. Looks like a former piece of Fire Apparatus. If so, what department did it serve.
  19. Has anyone ever installed new seals on a Lucas CAV DPA Injector Pump? The pump works just fine but, is leaking at the end of the automatic advance device. I usually take the approach if it is not broken don’t fix it. However, this is the only thing on my truck that drips oil and it is driving me crazy. Any thoughts are welcome! Thanks
  20. My 2005 may have a few nicks and dents but it is "CHEAPER TO KEEP HER" Turned over 148,000 today. I got 450,000 out of one of my PU's 350-4-bolt just kept running on and on. Sold it to a guy that is still using it for jobs around his property.
  21. Nice looking parts. As most DE and ED owners know parts are hard to come by. Any thoughts on the side hood strips. I am in need of the center (2-piece) strips that go in front of the and in back of the Mack emblem. thanks!
  22. As for the events surrounding the UK fire it is sad we have the NAHB here in the US lobbying on a regular basis to relax rules and regulations that save lives. Sprinklers do save lives and light weight construction doesn't give you much time to get out.
