I think what happens is when the engine runs HOT, the rolled o-ring can form a bulge in the thin liner at the spot where the o=ring is rolled, therefore, causing the cylinder bore to be reduced,, then,,,, well the piston rings dont fit good inside an egg shaped cylinder, and then the skirt grinds the shaving made by the rings, and well... you get what was shown in the picture... at least that is my take on it.. jojo
  5. I beleive you, but the last time I checked, the only thing going into the engine was air and fuel, if not fuel injected..

  8. I ask this about paint, but the 3 John Deere, 3179's I built in the last year, had head gaskets with a thin layer of clear silicone. When placing the head down, you are NOT allowed to shift the head for alignment when it is on the deck.. Crazy thing is the line up bolts that you need to use are smaller diameter than the bore's in the head, so movement is still possible.. I tested this with a new head gasket that was kinked in the box, and I'll be damned.... the slightest movement, pealed the silicone of with ease.. anyway, I'm just B.S.'n..... Jojo
  9. Aluminum Paint??? Hmmm.... That is a new one for me.. Did it work, without causing leaks? I assume the painter had to be smooth and made no runs.. Just curious.. I was always taught to install them DRY.... Jojo
  10. Well I got the harness fixed up and cleaned. I only had to solder in one plug, and fix a few of the EUP wires where they chaffed through. I ohm'd the wire's,,, all good.. I took all the loom off and washed the dirt out with elec. cleaner spray, then wiped with clean cloth wetted with brake cleaner, and the wires looked really clean and the numbers didnt rub off.. Re=Wrapped with new loom, and such.. It is tedious, but since the harness is sometimes on national back order, and I think it is now $1200.00.... It was worth the effort.. OK,,,, there's my shop talk.... Who's next?? Jojo

  15. 610GC1123.. should be the part number for the head studs. This is for the 20 bolt heads. All 20 are the same. They are $21.00 ea. at Agkits.. To be honest, I have been told the old ones can be re-used if they are not rusted or messed up in any way. My customer is a millionaire, so spending a thousand dollars on head studs was no issue.. Im not trying to pry into your wallet, just passing 'on' some info.. Jojo

  17. at the rear of the frame, there is the 4 wire harness that goes to the tail light harness.. the is a square duetch connector in the left corner of the frame rail. on that harness should be a single 'bullet' type wire and plug sticking out of the harness by itself. That is the reverse light wire.. check to see if it is dissconnected, and also put the tranny in rev. with the key on and check for power. I assume you had a back up alarm, and it went out too... ?? jojo
  18. The heads weight abought 125 pounds each. I bought new studs from Agkits.com for the one I have, If you have 18 stud heads, then the studs at the ends of the heads are different. 4 per head. You will need to know that when ordering the head gaskets. the nuts are hard to find. I sand blasted mine and will re-use them. The truck I'm doing this for is a personal museum piece and a parade truck.. It wont go to 'work'. But I bet it stays together... jojo

  20. Well Mech. I do have a customer job in my shop.. I am taking 2 E-Tech wire harness's and making 1 good one.. I hang them on my engine crane, and pick them apart and repair the damages.. Then I ohm ut the wires to be sure they are connected and not shorted inside the harness.. It takes 6+ hours, when repairs are needed. I should get back to work on Sanford soon.. I have home repairs to do as well..

  24. Craig, Buddy... I almost added to my post about tearing the E-6 down.... I had 2 sweet mouse house's under the valve covers, as well.. this engine was in the woods upstate NY.. too funny... Your rocker shafts look at lot better then mine.. jojo
