  1. later on the company contracted with TTS - truck tire service, it is /was a network of garages they would call near the downed unit. gave me a few nights full sleep , or most cases time to work else where. one night/morning i was at second full time job and the phone rang. it was foreman from baskin. he says " what you doing there it's 2-3 am " said im working, "there's a road call" -- guess you have to go i said , he was pis-ed
  2. THANK YOU for comment on pretty big impact. it was a team effort . myself and wife #1 took one of the newer combo out for a ride one Sunday. i dropped her off at a highway overpass on I84 . she took the pictures as i drove up and parked the rig. had the pictures enlarged and on my office wall.
  3. every day was (still is )a learning experience. i made alot of mistakes; just did what i thought was right. had my own little office which i swept the floor; no house keeper LOL. no cell phones or GPS. road call to MD to change alternator, up state NY to change steering box on KW123 in an ice storm. just couple i remember.
  4. alot of things changed . started at baskin day after leaving Mack. foreman at B&R was one who didn't care. fortunately company transfer him to lawn mower detail.==long story. '75-'98 mech for B&R , '98-'09 driver.
  5. i had a major discussion with super when i started at baskin. questioned why a fleet hauling food product looked worse then the concrete company mixers down the street. a paint /cleanup process started. after teaming up with a REAL good MECHANIC , work was a pleasure every day. fleet was mechanically fit to the best of our knowledge and clean. A DOT inspector told me once;" when we see the baskins in line at the scale house , we flag them by" , it took alot of work over 6 1/2 yrs to get and keep the fleet there.
  6. also the mechanic was put in parenthesis for a reason. don't know who decided to pull eng apart. maybe it ran a little with disconnected filter ????
  7. agree on that. at baskins, one driver ; real good hard working guy didn't have care for cleaning inside. i tipped the cab =IH 4070 opened both doors climbed on a ladder let the steam cleaner go. at coke same ' good guy; no one myself included wanted to go near the truck.that one stunk for trash. far as the MH it's any bodys call. battery box off (dead?) have to be there to find out.
  8. looking at all the dirt over the speedo gage which someone had to wipe off to see mileage, i say pretty good chance maintenance /servicing wasn't on the top of the list. it sucked the rubber hose flat could be the air filter so clogged eng couldn't get fresh air. a "mechanic" may be looking for technical problem not looking at simple first, bad air filter. once again not being there difficult call.
  9. my 6x6 lego was ( have to check wifes not around ) $400.oo . i haven't given upon the excavator . watch you-tube for that . can even buy a light kit . then you can dig at night. LOL lego technics aren't cheap, ones with remote control at least let you do something with them for your money spent. there is a Mack lego . the red one which was a modified is from the kids movie.
  10. updates are always appreciated . lets folks know their input is being used. the lower picture has the hash mark i would assume that's your system. before purchase of SP switch, if cable replace /cleaning is an improvement; i would say continue with the cleaning cable ends first. with many parts i had , a brand new SP switch was thrown out yrs ago = thinking no one uses these . such a mistake. bad as that sounds; you would be sick if I listed the truck load of DD parts i had that went over the bank. brand new complete liner kits etc . updates are good
  11. and I want to find one for ME . I have the lego 6x6 ; took days to build with remote control . a relative came over yesterday; i dug out boxes of 1/25 scale models . found stuff i forgot i had.
  12. 7th to 8th doable ; maybe 11=12=13. if you make it to an easy 18=19=20th ''congratulations :: you are a TRUCK DRIVER.. : side note, i didn't make it.
  13. now everyone raise their hand that just spent 10 minutes trying to follow this shift pattern !!! YES my hand is up also. LOL
  14. now this post has my curiosity going . weather in ct gets above 40 i'll take a ride to farm ;; try for side numbers ; and see if i can save it from scrap yard. hopefully i can get it. might bring it home and take it apart to remember the good ole days..
  15. not according to my wife 🤣 LOL
  16. the farmer that owns it is an "auction addict" . i asked about it last summer when i discovered it with other junk . he wasn't sure - said it came with other truck stuff.
  17. it's a small twin stick
  18. can't read side stamped numbers . will try and acquire it if some one can use it. it's in CT. if i can get it for zero ; that's what i'll ask for it. hate to see it sit and rust away or worse ;;; scrapped
  19. I do recall dash shift patterns that had two spots backwards. never paid that much attention as to why. i wasn't in to numbers that much(TRQ/TRD etc ) then . main motto was ;; if it's broke fix it . once had a customer that missed a shift on a hill ::mack F-600 with duplex. shattered the back half. he "acquired "another 10 speed from a competitor down the road. using a backhoe i pulled the trans, swapped parts to make a good one . installed alone;; any idea of trips from backhoe to truck lining up the trans . point is there was a big difference in front/ rear half ratio afterwards. he complained , i said then don't steal the next one buy the right parts! LOL
  20. I would have to agree. todays world you never know whos watching. good or bad. my sister had difficulty registering her guns; i questioned . why would you register. then the "good guys" know where to go when martial law takes effect. bad guys don't register.
  21. hair line cracks are possible in alum housing; but the housing cold shouldn't leak as bad as an expanding alum housing hot/warm. the housing isn't internal where expanding will seal a crack ; it's "open surrounding housing" expanding should open a crack which would leak constant . maybe.
  22. the scary part is = who is they? many know someone is in charge ; very few know who. going off topic again . nice fire truck . so many small FD's would greatly appreciate a "new " addition like that.
  23. get that dm model out start to build it
