20 min, was there a plastic insert in original housing for holding cable centered that was misplaced . what is broken ; cable itself or tang on end?
-
when you say $160.00 from mack, means buying factory made for truck set up? reason I ask , is we always made up inner cable or outer housing. I agree with phase1 with manually turn cable . also disconnect from tach and start eng see how center cable runs. I've seen tangs break off in gauges bind up cables, believe you replaced gauge ,that would eliminate broken tang thought. electric drill on engine side with tach side slightly loose.

you had heat!!!! 😀. now that's working in style > LOL LOL . wife just said "this is first time you smiled in days " . I showed her what you wrote. as we all know , you had to live it to understand it. your situation brought me back to: work all day, pick up parts (in ct remember) drive to upstate NY , during ice storm. K100 needed steering box. NO tarp, heat etc. there was a bridge overpass 100 ft away ; as per state official << you will not move that truck . the ice covered the tools within minutes of setting them down. no air tools. I stayed at motel after truck was done which wasn't that far from daylight. drive back to ct a snowplow was over in ditch . and you ask but why does your body hurt so bad all over, -

I've done some "off the wall" things in my day; clutch job loaded dump truck side of the road with snow on the ground or pull a quad out 0f DM600 outside with tiny car jack with plywood for floor and others! but did any really study that set up. LOL cement blocks on propane tanks and not even straps holding the guess its a board on the ladder. -
Camelback Noise..... Jingle Bells?
mechohaulic replied to TriAxleDump's topic in Driveline and Suspension
it's going to depend on what size rear. my vote goes with earlier comments , noise being steel side blocks . now if truck has lighter suspension that's another story. hear the noise coming you know your about to see a real truck! -
R-model cab resto report

real nice job. I HAD a 30x50 shop as seen in some of the pictures posted. not massive, but for a residential neighbor hood I got away with a lot. when the concrete floor was poured (6in thick) I made two 3ftx3ft steel I-beam frames which had large clevis in middle. access to clevis after floor was poured was through 12in flush mounted cover. one at each end of building. use them more than expected. straightened bumpers and more. was able to pull down with chain hoist. no way was the floor picking up. -

not only where you lift from; biggest concern - what is being used to lift the cab. towmotor (forklift) , overhead chain hoist etc all make a difference. did a few B-C-R conversions back in the mack days with forklift. couple of mysterious fire jobs on B model ten -wheelers. with dump bodies still on clearance was a minimum . nice set up in the pictures with over head hoist -

looking at the hoist/cab combo, my first thought was damage to the cab also . have lifted a number of cabs , I always used old pillows , towels or the like. cushioning the cab . always enjoyable to see old brought back to new . especially when its done with skill , not computers . great job. -

gave up on tie shoes, it's the Velcro or slip on for me. LOL . how do you expect me to bend way down there to tie a shoe. fell 17 + - ft through a roof yrs ago landed on concrete ; that hasn't helped the back either. don't worry about dropping tools, now I double check I have all the tools I need before laying down on creeper. job of standing back up !!! thanks to this great site, interest back to 1/25th scale trucks;; much easier. sit at table and pick up that transmission or cab in one hand. 😁😁 -

ever notice the jeans today. they pay MORE to buy jeans already with rips in them !!! they call it style . I have good set of knee pads; damage done. knees are bad shape after all the yrs of kneeing on concrete , under iron . challenge now is to get grandson (driver-mechanic ) to take better condition of himself. don't lift the brake drum, wear the ear plugs etc. I didn't listen 45 +yrs ago. boy do I "pay"for it every day now. -

small piece of 2 in Styrofoam works great. big enough to kneel on. will stand up to wet conditions better than cardboard also, -

R model engine brake
mechohaulic replied to JMack302's topic in Electrical, Electronics and Lighting
opposite end of new wire ,is that going to ground? usually there is only one wire to pump which grounds it self. now a days they may be using the pump switch as an on/off to complete the circuit with two wires the pump switches were a royal pain in a -- -. brass tab inside always failed. if its staying on with red wire to ground, i'd say try adjusting screw on pump slightly. doubt wire colors can be seen that weathered. based on picture,14 R/G (red/ green ) should be from circuit breaker; 14 BR (brown) goes to pump switch to complete ground side ;14 B (black). to cyl heads. definitely don't want to open top cover with all that dirt around it. firewall connection pictures aren't the worse ever, not that there isn't chafing wires or connections wrong. brake works when grounded . unravel the tape see what it looks like. maybe not bad ,tapes only holding plugs together (ya right !!) wiring is always fun when someone else has been there before... -
He's not the only other guy ! LOL .. no facebook, or other for me. I miss the flip phone, now I have a " smart phone" .rarely use it , NEVER thought i'd see the day when I did a road call and didn't leave the shop. thanks to a young driver that couldn't understand how to find a relay in control box. he says "don't you have a smart phone"? my reply-how the h - - l do I know if the phone is smart or not ! short story ; he used his phone connected to mine , I watched as he moved his phone through the box till I said there's the breaker . reset and hes on his way. L-n-L had a phone on the wall;; I go back to a phone table in the corner with black rotary phone with a party line connected.
