  1. with total respect intended Sir based on the pictures you posted from the truck show , you have a pretty looking wife and she drives a bike !! will be rooting for you to enjoy life without the back / knee pain.
  2. So if there is such a place as Heaven ; should i have someone put some tools in my coffin!! or maybe some heat resistant wrenches 😇
  3. At 53 JOJO plenty of time to :miss " the thrills" of the MECHANIC'S GOLDEN YEARS. I miss the beer, burgers. now it's salads, a shot every once and a while. NO smoking, after cancer / open heart , NO over exertion . a two hr project could be two days . farm life as a youngster the baler made 100 lb bales, competition between us was to carry one in each hand and race across the field. today i tire out just thinking of doing it.LOL
  4. sounds trivial , but i NEVER pass change people drop and don't care;; today i couldn't bend enough to pick up a penny on the ground. if there's no supporting structure near by i can't bend over. that's the results of the 50 plus yrs rain , snow sleet and hail : even the post office deliverer can take cover in their truck once and a while. I keep the cane in the jeep as back up.
  5. that is a true story , my mentor in building DD is the MECHANIC who built the 318,and the driver a great guy just a little wacky knew there was a time and place to "flame the stacks" LOL
  6. computers definitely have there place in todays world i won't disagree. a robotic computer which looked like an octopus did parts changing inside me repair a bout with cancer.. but to watch someone build horse power in a diesel with only his (or her ) hands and the knowledge in their brain beats any computer to me. was very honored today going to an equiptment dealer which i was advised friday to come back when john is here,"he's 80 yrs old and knows everything". she was right John was old school. a generation sadly leaving the world.
  7. can I get an "AMEN" . to watch a 318 twin 3 1/2 in stacks turn blue at the stack outlets ; no words to describe the sound and sight . never todays electronic crap.
  8. I know the show like most was a set up / scheduled stop not paying a crew and back up to "free style " the country side; but it was enjoyable for me watching just to know so many places still exist. i would look at all the " inventory " not junk that they walked passed, whether it was real equipment or the toys. guess behind the scenes there was fiction between mike and frank. back to topic:: still looks like alot of good iron
  9. don't you kinda wonder sometimes : was it ever fixed or not??😄 you senior members must have helped in thousands of questions; I'm "new" here compared. my heart DR called me during covid for 5 yr check up, 7 =THAT'S SEVEN minutes on the phone cost me $400.oo . how much of expertise advice is shared on these forums regularly for free.maybe it my old age;; a follow up or thanks people is a moral booster, just sayin .
  10. be great to update and let us know what you find/found.
  11. mind boggling so many vehicles survived. B-81's look good. i favor the 40-50's small diamond-T's . Mack Jr's // ED's close to impossible. T's make a sharp looking pick-up. checking my powerball results ; no sense in getting plane tickets. think the diamond -T's "holda place"to me ;;the first real truck i could call mine was the "54or 58 Diamond -T wrecker single axle i used at waterbury Mack. pulled a DM600 triaxle dump in with it. close to getting injured trying to pull truck back over the guard rail that had it's nose blocking the train tracks. truck stuck and the chain broke ; cable came back under the wrecker like a sling shot. had a lot of cable out to secure the wrecker to nearest concrete column
  12. now all us OLE TIMERS know a DD does a great job of oiling the cyl by itself along with everything near it AND this must be a test a 318 DOES NOT have a turbo bearings it has blower bearings LOL . a 350 DD same with a few modifications has a TURBO . ;;;; sorry couldn't help myself bob;;;LOL LOL LOL
  13. all in favor of the vise grip idea; one concern for me is starting it with valve covers off::: unless i pressure washed it first there's an awful lot of yrs worth of dust, grit the fan will blow around that will end up in oil galley on heads. as in many cases on these forms , sure would like to be there when it fires up. must be like a heart surgeon when he opens some one up ;;LOL the thrill to hear / see something come "alive" again.
  14. I'm not into earrings ;but those are sharp.. Canadian ? with the clover back ground maybe.
  15. I even changed the door; came back with another drilled hole. He isn't a bad guy just trying to make ends meet i guess.
  16. one of the reasons i parted with an old diamond T boom truck and the '49 EE and EF . used the EE dump for snow removal very little of the EF flatbed for hauling hay. time goes too fast; rust etc doesn't wait to set in and freeze up mechanical parts. heck it's taking me months just to finish my 1/25 scale projects. where does the time go!!
  17. after a few phone calls ; seems the scammer closed the on line sites;; now the name shows up on amazon selling a clutch cheaper $500.oo . I have a claim going ; time will tell.
  18. I knew a driver that drilled a small hole in the door of the sangamo wrapped a small string around the clock and was able speed the time ; finish his NJ run be back in CT for second job. LOL .only reason he was caught = someone call the plant wanting to know why a baskin robbins truck was parked outside their house every week. chart in sangamo only had the one tell tale rip showing door opened ;. driver was fired after brass went took pictures of the truck in CT not NJ
  19. looking through the window in pic 3 there's is another R700 single stack Mack . nice
  20. if your initial start is by your self, I would have the emergency stop cable working and connected. 1- you can't (or want to )climb up to the shut off fast enough from the cab.2= a helper brave enough can standby if the emergency shut off needs to be flipped. the internal emergency flapper should have spring tension helping it close. when you move the locking lever there should be a slam action to the flap.
  21. remove the valve covers , work the fuel linkage top of eng. the rack control rods = coming from governor to injector rack front of head Inside should move back and forth. the rack connecting each injector will move. as each injector goes to full fuel , the injector arm will rotate very slightly. I would remove truck fuel linkage from governor making sure engine linkage is free. enlarging the picture the emergency shut off might not be connected. most of the time , steel cable cuts through the flip lever. MAKE SURE THE EMERGENCY STOP WORKS . sounds like a technical deal ;; it's not;; very simple preventative maintenance.
  22. some options don't allow the run away part. LOL short version which i believe i told before on the forums;; working night shift waterbury Mack CT . a K100 towed in for drive line problems. sat for two weeks in shop waiting for tab to be paid. guy comes in late night ,climbs up in cab . hits the key; engine went beyond wide open in seconds. i rip rear cab engine screen off . CLIMB /CRAWL on top of screaming engine manually flip emergency stop;; tooo late. it shuts down; jack cab remove valve covers :: ALL rockers were shattered.
  23. most gliders were long frame rails with suspension added based on wheelbase wanted. cut offs welded to cab front half didn't seem to majority that i remember.
  24. '70's saw a lot of gliders and B_C_R 's built. I built a U611st for a local company. mack eng coupled to a RR. decent wheelbase.
