  1. Is this what they mean when the kids today learn "new math " in school. LMAO
  2. the jacobs engine brake would be an add on unit. a dynatard is built in unit. as other text have written major components would need to be changed. push rods, rockers, cam, (valve covers?). another forum discussed this topic some time back, can't find it. I go back to the beginning of the dynatard which had larger adjusting solenoids on exhaust side . from what i gather the covers are different today.
  3. reducer ??? 18 vs 20 stud . the two corner studs on a 20 are different locations side by side . 18 has the 3/4 in middle of where the two would be if memory is working properly. sure hope forum is kept updated on this one
  4. OK now it time for blood pressure pills 😷LOL and i was doing good for a while. OH wifey;; remember when you looked like that!! I DON"T .😁😁
  5. the other two parts trucks don't have that valve. do either have a front axle limiting valve=dial or toggle on the dash (in the cab)?
  6. off the wall question; that wasn't a tractor or had trailer lines to rear at some point. I don't see why there would have been a quick release from dial control to front tee'd in. quick release ok not a tee towards rear
  7. now I wouldn't call them stupid answers : they are called answers the old people give. LOL
  8. Thank heaven for you tube and videos like these sure makes the cold winter days go by faster. coordination between drivers amazing .
  9. after reading the last three pages of this topic, SO DA-M glad I'm retired! I remember towing in a R685 yrs back for a major company. mack management convinced the owners the engine was blown. oil all over air cleaner area. reality it ran backwards for minute when backing down ramp bumped the dock. reading this update dealers change parts half-ass is seemingly way worse.
  10. sure I mentioned this on here before but; I went into a local part(auto)store looking for new axle lug nuts = standard 1/2x20 ? . parts "clerk" questioned -what's it for? my mistake when i answered a boat trailer. we don't sell boat parts ! same nut as hundreds of auto wheels ass-le.
  11. sounds like a front axle limiting valve that has been disconnected possibly yrs back and never noticed.
  12. I've always believed in supporting local business, challenge is ::and has been discussed here many times , trying to find someone behind the counter that knows what you are asking for. on-line for me is limited to item I'm looking for. most of the old knowledge persons are gone. those left at the local truck parts store are counting the days till retirement. I've dealt with them for 40 + yrs. new management pushes the sell parts needed or not idea.
  13. late '70's DM's == real trucks. don't forget besides rookie rods the DM's and other HD trucks had front bumper steps made from large cables . the metal steps bent/ broke when contact was made with objects ; the bumpers didn't bend. cable steps had movement.
  14. YES IT DID . factory may have given it a technical meaning ; workin folk used dumper mixer.
  15. waterbury Mack was also a Diamond t dealer for short time in the day. possibly it was standard equipt on T's. put some time on the internet looking up local companies of days gone by recently. now those pictures kicked in memories.
  16. I can't/don't remember the muffler brand nor the application requiring it. they were out there.
  17. amazing how the old pictures Sturr up the brain cells.. I haven't seen a "pancake " muffler in many years. nice looking unit. so simple yet practical "for the day".
  18. boring is putting it lightly;; I call it misrepresentation. no one told me the beautiful girl in the treadmill TV commercial WASN'T in the box with the treadmill. I looked the box over carefully before I bought it for my wife.NO WHERE did the sealed box say model not included. 🤣🤣
  19. RD would be the centered cab. R == centered cab, D(M) == would be heavy duty chassis.
  20. my wife has a treadmill which was first assembled in prospect , ct= disassembled and taken to knoxville, tn, assembled =disassembled hauled back to Watertown, CT=carried up 13 steps (in sections); reassembled !! and it sits there . I CAN'T put my clothes on it . get my ba-ls broke for not hanging up my clothes properly. it's a motorized unit;; not light weight.
  21. #1- THANK YOU for YOUR SERVICE ..#2- frame rails length aren't the critical issue compared to position of the mounts. possibly it was easier for someone to move things forward then to move trans back and cut driveshaft since the nose was already off to swap engines . to me it's would be easier to move mounts back. a donor vehicle may have been there to provide crossmembers etc. if the unit has offset mounts , swapping left to right will give a couple inches difference in location.
  22. not only is the progress on the truck looking great, but the extremely clean shop with proper overhead chain hoist also has my vote.
  23. ok I go for it ::: rat coffin (hot dog bun) === dead horse (hot dog ). 😇
  24. update:: reread text. the clutch brake is on lower counter shaft ;NOT input . three spring loaded pins with 7/8th ? adjusting bolt . guess i should put this in shop talk column "" text kicked in before brain went into gear"""😁
  25. the memory banks may be playing havoc with me right now but ;;1- I thought the front transmission cover on the older units had a 1/4 dia pin which went through the front input shaft and spun in cover which had a reverse spiral to keep oil from leaking. newer units I'm sure have a seal now. 2- to replace a seal,, trans would have to be removed in order for seal to go over input shaft. 3- a clutch brake disc CAN be replaced without trans removal. a pain in ass job but can be done using updated two piece disc.
