  1. The common thread in too many of these murders is people, both police and civilians, who run around all fired up on paranoid conspiracy theories, locked and loaded to unload on the first person who can only vaguely be perceived a threat by a rational mind. We all need to ratchet down that fear and calmly think before we jump to conclusions and set off a repeat of our bloody Civil War.
  2. With all due respect, I'll gladly stipulate that the victim was being a drunken asshole. But he was out of the car and willing to walk to his sisters and sleep it off, and most cops would have given him the chance to do that. If he had broken that promise and attempted to drive away, the police would have been quite right in apprehending him. Instead, the police escalated the situation by unexpectedly attempting to cuff him. That set off further escalation of the conflict resulting in one of the officers committing a homicide.
  3. The Coroner has ruled the shooting a homicide and the officer has been fired. Y'll really wanna keep defending a murderer?
  4. Being as I'm white, a cop is pretty unlikely to stop me for jaywalking. If you're white and driving a big company's truck you have to do something pretty flagrant to get busted.
  5. It's not illegal to be drunk when standing in a parking lot. The arresting officers created and escalated the conflict and bear responsibility for the outcome.
  6. Are you talking about Mr. Floyd?
  7. Minneapolis cops aren't so noble- Free coffee wasn't enough for them, they had a plainclothes cop who drove around in an unmarked and collected "donations" from bakeries and other businesses. Bars and after hours clubs were expected to make payments and got raided if they didn't. Driving company trucks they didn't bother us much, but one day I had a rental and got pulled over by a Minneapolis cop and accused of driving on a parkway where trucks were banned. That street ran along a park, but it was a designated truck route!
  8. That was four years ago and "the Moslem's" still haven't taken over. Almost as big a failure as Keith Ellison who after two decades in government has gotten elected as Minnesota Attorney General, but still hasn't been able to institute Sharia Law (LOL)! Or maybe they never intended to take over the country and impose Sharia Law?
  9. The arsons are a whole separate issue, some suspects have been taken into custody and they'll probably be charged with felonies. All the ones covered in the media are white...
  10. Here in Minnesota, like in many states, the amount of loss determines whether the crime is a misdemeanor or felony, usually the loss has to be over $20,000 to make the crime a felony. Putting an offender in prison costs over $40,000 a year, so makes more sense to release the accused in many cases rather than giving them free room and board in the county jail. This works well, Minnesota has one of the lowest proportion of it's citizens jailed or imprisoned than any state and also one of the lowest crime rates.
  11. Heavy Gunner, here's the well documented story of the bigotry people of color are facing in the rural Pacific Northwest: https://www.king5.com/article/news/crime/clallam-county-olympic-peninsula-multiracial-family-harassed-accused-antifa/281-d8570144-f956-4ea2-af26-ccbba91dc4d0
  12. Actually, I take an economic view rather than a political view of excessive punishment. If we were literally going to removes eyes, hands, feet, etc. as a punishment, while some would be happy to see "justice done", our economy would be a lot less productive because we'd have a lot of people that couldn't do much work because various useful organs and limbs had been removed. You can see this in the states that levy heavy punishments where businesses cannot expand due to lack of workers because many workers are in jail. If you want to see the crime that really causes a breakdown in society, looks at some of the pension funds that have been looted by big business, leaving thousands and even millions to poverty.
  13. I didn't say it's acceptable, but here in Minnesota a cartful of groceries ain't even a misdemeanor, and jailing people for such small offenses is a waste of tax dollars.
  14. I'd have a bit of sympathy for the looters if they were taking food and baby stuff, like happened at the Lake Street Target in Minnesota. In Minnesota we had "equal opportunity" looting too, with people of all races in on the action. Also had some black citizens keep another Target from being looted. That's why I have to question the motive of this Florida Sheriff in posting this video- Why did he pick a video that shows mostly blacks? As far as apprehending the suspects, the video's are so bad they would never cause a conviction in a real court, and most of this is misdemeanor stuff anyway, except in Florida, where jail space is the only constraint. My autistic nephew hustles carts in a Minnesota Walmart and people loading up carts and making a run out the door is an everyday event- Walmart and the police tell him not pursue, not worth thousands in Workers Comp injuries and potential lawsuits. The same economics apply to police apprehension and court conviction- not worth spending thousands on court and jail costs for a far less than that stolen.
  15. Volvo (and a lot of other truck makers) strategy is to incent the original owner to trade the truck in at 5 years or less of life, and for the truck to be scrapped by 10. I'm in a Facebook group with a bunch of people running the new Mack Anthems, with the new 13 liter engine, the turbo linked to the crankshaft, automated manual, and long gearing they're getting 9 MPG. But that transmission is fragile and after the 5 year/750K mile warranty runs out a rebuild often costs more than the truck is worth. For a profitable OTR operation that can write the truck off for tax purposes in 5 years that's OK, but most Macks are sold to construction and vocational users where operations are seasonal and mileages are much lower than OTR. A traditional Mack in vocational use was usually good for at least 20 years and scrapped because the cab rusted out with plenty of life left in the drivetrain. Thus, while I wouldn't expect the local Mack dealer to stock B model parts, parts for the Rs, DMs, and Mack 12 liter engines that were sold new barely a decade ago should be available for at least another decade.
  16. Even with 10 axles that train has about half the capacity of just one railroad car.
  17. Ran across a news item yesterday that the FCA+PSA merger may need some divestment because the combined company would have 34% of the EU van market. Ford+VW would have 28% of the same van market, if the FCA+PAS merger is approved, will Ford+VW be next?
  18. And very few straight truck chassis are rated for 80k, never mind higher weights.
  19. Being denied a haircut is an inconvenience, having your life taken away is the ultimate loss of liberty.
  20. But he probably would have lived several more years if he hadn't been murdered.
  21. Perhaps it's going to be used with a stinger steered log trailer?
  22. IIRC in the 6 cylinder Maxidynes with the exception of the rare Renault based engine, 237s had no intercooler and 285s had an engine mounted intercooler. When Mack went to chassis mounted intercoolers in the 80s all the Maxidynes got them from the lowest HP 250 on up.
  23. That patent plate clearly says Maxidyne and it looks like an inline six with no intercooler, so must be a 237. The 2 stick transmission with reverse and a split or low range on the 2nd stick is common, I've heard of a version with a splitter that only worked on the top 2 gears of the main box and that must be what you have.
  24. Agreed, I wouldn't want to be a republican now.
