  1. Sorry, being denied a loan ain't near as bad as getting murdered for the color of your skin.
  2. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lynching_in_the_United_States
  3. Not being murdered by racist cops, for a start. And fairness in lending- Try getting a truck for your business financed with a zip code like 55411.

  5. I'll vote for Mack, but the issue is moot now as most new trucks are coming with automatics.
  6. If this is class warfare, the rich started it. Today half of american family's have essentially no savings or equity, and the middle class has all been wiped out. As for leveling the playing field, wasn't that the american ideal?
  7. You haven't been following the trends... In my old 'hood in Minneapolis crime is way down and people of color are rebuilding the neighborhood. They're wearing masks, social distancing, and the biggest bicycling club in town is black organized, though they welcome everyone. COVID-19 is under control, they had a huge Juneteenth celebration with music, dancing, food giveaways, with the local black motorcycle club and other minority social clubs providing security in the absence of the police who have largely been MIA. Out here in rural Minnesota too many white people been making damn fools of themselves, partying away with not a mask in sight... No wonder my county now has 11 times as many COVID-19 cases as it has hospital beds!
  8. Said "old white guys" are disappearing... Last owner of my house drank himself to death in his 50s, neighbor and a good mechanic died from too late treated auto immune disease in his 50s, another neighbor smoke and drank himself to death in his 60s, guy down the block died of lung cancer in his 60s. The current drug epidemic, opiates, is mostly taking white people. Same with the gun nuts, there are now twice as many suicides as homicides in this country. COVID-19 will take many more, I see the minorities wearing masks while too many whites make their stupid political statement by not wearing one. Even here in the midwest's small towns the minorities will become the majority by default, simply because they took care of their health.
  9. Sad that the media is getting so bullied by the manufacturers, getting hard to trust road tests and reviews.
  10. Thanks for correcting me on that and posting the link, looks like even the back of the frame was a few hundredths narrower than the old 34" SAE standard.
  11. ATF has tracked down and had arrested suspects in the Minneapolis/St.Paul arsons, they're all white.
  12. IIRC, the '06 uses a Volvo frame that's metric and a bit different in many dimensions, the MH frame, at least the back of it, is built to the old SAE dimensions. Probably be easier to bolt the rear assembly onto the MH frame rather than trying to weld on the CX cutoff.
  13. For the record I like about 10HP/Ton. Seems like half the Euro cabovers like the Ford Cargo were designed here and half the 'Merican conventionals were designed in Europe (compare the Volvo conventional with the previous generation Volvo F series cabover), so just what exactly is a "cabover from Europe". I've never owned a GTI but drool over the Golf R, an AWD GTI on steroids that turns 13 second quarters outa the box. As for the tractor, where were you measuring? It sends over 10KW out the PTO shaft and 17KW to the ground, enough for most jobs a 650KG tractor can handle. As for your last accusation, I consider it normal debate and discussion, sorry if you're getting hurt.
  14. Good points. In a crisis our country tends to come together, partisanship is put aside, and lawmakers tend to do what's best for the country. We saw that after 9/11 and recently as we confronted the COVID-19 pandemic, but unfortunately our nation is going back to partisan paralysis again. I'm trying to stay non-partisan, today I actually sent a democratic legislator I know an e-mail asking him to support the republican position on a bill, because it would be better for our small town. And if we're going to wade into the cesspool of politics, can we stick to politics as it relates to Mack trucks... With new truck sales tanking, there's a good chance at least one brand will disappear forever and I'd rather it not be Mack!
  15. I'd just as soon we get back to Macks, but seems like politics is all anybody wants to talk abut here anymore.
  16. Trump is already toast- He's losing in the swing states and barely leading in states that should be an easy win for a republican. Trumps only chance is to keep the election from happening.
  17. You never forget driving a Mack- First one I drove was a late 60s R model with a 237 Maxidyne, my last night at work before I retired I spent in a UPS CX612, probably the best vintage of Mack ever.
  18. Folks, were in the middle of the kind of radical change we saw in the 60s, I don't agree with it all, and there's nothing we can do to stop it- The young folks now outnumber the boomers and we boomers will slowly disappear from this earth. You can see this in how Minneapolis mayor Jacob Frey was booed when he said he doesn't support abolishing the police. I know Jacob, supported him in his first campaign when he defeated a progressive boomer incumbent council member by being more progressive, and now not even ten years later he's not progressive enough. Throw in the current economic environment and radical change may not be a choice- Mr. Wang was thought of as a kinda fringe presidential candidate with his proposal for a guarenteed income, but comes the Coronavirus pandemic and both republicans and democrats supported a check for everyone and increased unemployment even for the self employed. We added a couple trillion to the national debt in that crisis, so Trump's tax cut is history. And the cost of Coronavirus treatment may bankrupt so many insurance companies that the government will be the insurer of last resort for all americans. It's sorta progress with a lot of rough edges, as we fade away we can't do much to stop it, and hopefully the young folks will get it right.
  19. Arresting people first and then dreaming up charges later is what got the police into this mess.
  20. But the use of deadly force to make an arrest for DUI is still improper and a crime, which is why Atlanta PD fired the suspect officer.
  21. Hadn't seen that video, you're right, they've got PC there.
  22. But did the officers have that evidence when they attempted to take the victim into custody?
  23. Is their video of the police observing the victim behind the wheel? I haven't found any, I might be persuaded that a DUI charge was appropriate if I did.
  24. Good article by a GA DUI attorney, unless the police saw the victim behind the wheel it wasn't a DUI: https://www.duigeorgia.com/parked-car-dui
  25. In a situation like this, the police have the evidentiary problem of not having seen the accused drive while intoxicated on a public street, thus they usually don't make an arrest in these circumstances. If he'd gotten back behind the wheel and driven onto the pubic street, they'd have the right and duty to stop him. But without seeing the accused behind the wheel on the street while intoxicated, most cops would have wisely given him the option of walking home.
