  1. Bingo!!!!! That's the comment I was gonna make. A 10 speed won't have a deep enough reduction in low gear for a loaded roll off truck to start off in soft ground without abusing the clutch..
  2. Why yes, yes I do sometimes!!!!! My phone is always next to the bed, & I go on FB sometimes before I even get up!!!!! (Debbie gets mad when I FB in bed) lol.
  3. I go on FB once in a great while. Otherdog & Bulldog Man & LMackAttack can vouch for that. Hahahaha!!!!!!!
  4. Finally got my password issues worked out & I'm able to get back in here. Guess I've got a lot of catching up to do!!!!! Hope all of you have been doing well!!!!!!!
  5. .....and they better drain the excess oil out of the transmission too!!!!! lol. Hahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  6. I've never done that, & never heard of anyone else doing it either. As you said though, you MUST dump the air suspension when raising the dump body to unload.
  7. Find a TRQ77 "baby quad box" 5x4 transmission. That would be awesome in that application.
  8. Tom, it's because you were pounding on your keyboard too hard. You're turning the words "Black & Blue!!!!!!!
  9. Us guys here in the US need to watch that video in a mirror!!
  10. Just remember that "lo lo" is not a part of the on road shifting sequence. Lo lo is only for off road use in 1st or sometimes 2nd gear. You shift the compound lo split to direct, then hi split, then upshift the main to the next gear, then downshift the compound to lo split & do the same thing over again. Once you are in 4th hi & ready to upshift, just shift the main to 5th. There are lots & lots of tricks that can be done with those transmissions, and in the hands of an expert it will sound as if the truck has an automatic transmission as it is being shifted thru the gears.
  11. Before the mid 80's I never saw a transverse torque rod on any of the Mack rears on camelback.
  12. I always put the valve stems 180* apart just because thats the way I do it. I was taught to do it that way when I was a kid and been doin' it that way ever since. When I'm working on trucks at my job, I can tell which ones I put the wheels on & which ones somebody else did just by looking at whether the valve stems are 180* apart. With 5 spoke Dayton wheels it's impossible to get them 180, but I always put them as close to being 180 as possible. .
  13. When I was growing up in Stamford CT, the Hoffman Fuel co. had a whole fleet of those Whites with Tanks on them for home fuel delivery. Theirs had big 6 cylinder flathead gas motors in them. .
  14. I hear ya Mike! I've had a few that were getting tired and pushing more & more blow by out the pipe, then when it gets so bad you can't keep oil in it anymore there is no choice but to overhaul. I should add that when a previously good running engine seems to suddenly get increased blow by, check the air filter & all intake ductwork to be sure there is not a leak or loose connection allowing dirt to be inhaled into the engine. Dirt ingestion will cause rapid piston ring & cylinder liner wear, turning a good running engine into junk. .
  15. If you're getting more & more "emissions" from the breather tube, then it means your piston rings or exhaust valve guides are getting worn and allowing more pressure into the crankcase. .
  16. I used to build burning barrels out of those old 20" rims. I'd stack 4 or 5 of em and weld em together, spacing the valve holes 90 degrees apart sequentially from one rim to the next, to give the fire more "turbulence! The bottom rim needed about 4 torch cut holes to supply air too.
  17. If you absolutely, positively MUST remove it, try warming up the block around the plug, then "massage" the plug with an air chisel equipped with a flat end mushroom bit before trying to break the plug loose. Just go easy with the air chisel!!!!!!!
  18. Check the air compressor. I had a E7 427 that was puking coolant & overheating, turned out that there was a crack in the air compressor allowing air pressure into the cooling system. Also, this past week where I work now, we had a Cat c13 in a IH Paystar blowing coolant out so bad it ruptured the reservoir tank. Turned out to be a blown head gasket in the air compressor.
  19. Automatic transmissions in class 8 trucks should be illegal.
  20. Modify that pipe at the bottom of the stack to move it forward, then install a straight pipe & the stack will be far enough forward that you can mount the body without excessive gap between body & cab. That's what I did when converting CH tractors into dump trucks.
  21. TRXL107, or TRXL1071, depending on whether it's the "lo", or "lo lo" version. At the beginning of the Maxidyne era, there were also the TRDXL 107 & the TRDXL 1070, but those are much less popular.
  22. Yes. The ones in the DM, R, & U models, and apparently the F models too.
  23. OK, I must have missed that part Rob. But I guess a cabover would have the oil fill in that location also. I'm just stating my observations from what I've experienced. I do know that all the B models I've been around had the stock oil fill on top of the front valve cover.
  24. Amen to what Glenn & Mike H. said! We had that happen to a DM600 with a quad box. The end of the compound stick was worn, and as the driver rounded a corner, he tried to downshift from Hi Split to Lo Split. The stick apparently jumped out of the hi split/direct rail leaving the compound still in hi split, then the stick got into the lo split/lo lo rail and put the coumpound in lo split at the same time. When any manual trans gets into 2 gears at once while the vehicle is moving, something has to give!!!!!!
