  1. Have been hearing that these products are ineffective for a couple years, but hadn't heard they could cause resistance to antibiotics we might need if we are Ill later! Makes sense not unlike the use of antibiotics in cattle, pork, and poultry!
  2. Happy labor day ! Don't forget those who died at Homestead, in the coal mines of Kentucky and west Virginia,or the 11 who died on B.P.s drilling platform while the"fat cats" we're "at the trough"! Be safe!

Just sale the date on the post, thought they were coming up with a new scrapping program you were referring to  The one that already took place!

  4. Damndest thing I've ever seen we're all crazy(but in a good way)!!
  5. They tried this b.s once before ended up scrapping a lot of cars and trucks with components that interchange forward! Required the engines to be filled with epoxy so the vehicles couldn't be sold as driving vehicles, but destroyed some engines that were still viable for later model pickups 350 chevys big block Ford's and Gm products that street Rodders like.We should all join SEMA like the street Rodgers do!Heck, almost half antique big truck folks are street Rodders too! Is there any way to disable cotton picking spellchecker lol! Mark my words they're coming after our big trucks next!
  6. Ga Dave, nice collection of photos! I'm liking the looks of the C F Macks ,have no knowledge of fire equip. Is there a fairly common engine tranny combo in these trucks? Hopefully they aren't all automatics. Without the back end they'd make a handsome "hobby tractor" or car hauler. Is there any market for the back end among fire equip.collectors? Thanks!
  7. I was six when we had the "big snow of 1950" 3feet ! My dad went on a "tow job" in his 201 Diamond T wrecker with single rear wheels.20 miles away, broke an axle, didn't return till the following afternoon.Took a streetcar to my Grandparents, spent the night, was waiting for another streetcar, got a ride home in his friends wrecker a chevy(how embarrassing)! Put a two speed axle from a 2ton Ford on the wrecker( that ain't happening again!) The next climatic event I remember was when it went to -27 in 1977 made some money thawing pipe with my welder, also welding on J and L Steels barge fleet on the Mon river. The ice tore up the hulls.funny how bad weather creates opportunities! The next cold spell I remember was 90 or 91 it's -25 in Bristol In.I'm loading 3 explorer conversion vans. Got frostbite with gloves on! Then in about 07 it gets down to 17degrees here in Florida! And the pipes freeze! Can't thaw pvc pipe with a welder! Used a hair dryer! Anyway where I'm going with all this is these events might be anomaly it would appear there is overwhelming scientific proof in favor of global warming, scientists as a group tend to be apolitical, even antipolitical! To their credit! I don't know any more than the rest of you. On the other side of the coin this has been the hottest summer in a long time in "gator country" Maybe another anomaly? Don't know! David, looks like a double wall xerces tank, spelled it wrong,I think!
  8. That was me on the Lucas joke mower man, Used to work at a parts store B.A.P. British Auto Parts, sold foreign car parts, the mechanics used to hate the old Lucas ignition!

  9. Is Stride Rite Scrapple still made in America? Here's an idea...send the scrapple to China and the low wage workers will get heart disease from The cholesterol and be forced to retire, sending the jobs back to America! Just kidding, the workers aren't the problem, just their leaders,And ours!!

  12. I remember when I first started hauling cars the union was strong, you could stay anywhere you wanted. There was a promotion at Holiday Inns in the late 70's if you stayed so many times you got a vacation for two in Hawaii! The whole darn terminal took their wives to Hawaii! Then I quit for seven yrs, went back in87,you got a list of dumps like the swan where you had to stay! Only exception was if you were out of hrs and there was no dump nearby! Of course the guys carefully planned to run out of hrs near a decent hotel! Lol The trip I was on that caused me to quit Leaseway went to upper New England,Vermont,New Hampshire, and possibly Maine. Left Dundalk on Friday,Used half My advance on tolls was the weekend so I couldn't deliver til Monday. The days of subject to inspection drops were long over. The dealers were getting over by writing up damage that didn't exist! The only other load went to the Bronx, wasn't spending a weekend there! I was so broke I lived all weekend on a loaf of bread,a jar of peanut butter, and a bunch of bananas!Went back to Dundalk and quit!

  14. The beer from St Mary's is Straub drank so many I forgot the name!lol
  15. Hope I didn't hurt the dogs feelings!
  16. 😁 O.D.,what was your address again? Those look delicious! I used to brown the catfish and trout I'd catch in beer smells great while it's cooking! What's that beer they brew in St Mary's Pa? Damn can't think of the name,I consider it the best beer in America! Not available in Florida.Probably bought by A.B. like rolling rock! I also like Stoneys.I never tried scrapple, sounds disgusting ! 1965,Flicks is one of my favorite places for southern food, glad you like it too!The best fried chicken I've ever tasted is at that little t.s. on 35 near Jackson Oh. They bread each order separately. I'm hungry now, gonna eat! Bye.
  17. Carlotpilot, your post about old trailers with air operated emergency systems, brings us to the next episode of "Adventures in car hauling" When I first started hauling cars I had an old Bankhead 6car without maxis. Was driving a 69 f 750 with a 391 Ford engine, both single axle.I was taking a "shortcut" to Cumberland down rte 160 thru Berlin pa home of the potato chips. This has to be a 9 percent grade!  Also " windy" After a mile or two I noticed the brakes weren't slowing me  like they should at the same time the pressure gauge is heading towards 60,the buzzer comes on and a little metal flag is swinging from the headliner,( remember them) S..T! I'm  waiting for the nonexistent max is to lock up! I'm also approaching a blind right turn at about 40mph! Skipped,2or3 whole gears with it " flat on the mat" the 5000redlined tach goes around twice! And I "put it on the hillside" In slow motion the whole  right side of the rig leaves the ground probably by 2 or 3feet! And it teeters for a second, and crashes to the ground! My wallet which was on the dash went out the open window and was on the pavement! A tree branch on the hillside is in the right window and leaves are in my face! I  got out collected my wallet, and checked the truck.Had a full load of big cars and pickups. Not a scratch! Amazing! Prior to taking this job I drove mostly late model equipment with maxi brakes. We found out later I had blown a diaphragm on the trailer the air tank probably delivered air to the brakes and it leaked out immediately.Five years later I thought I'd " try 160 again" Had a brand new five axle rig with only three pintos on! At the bottom of the hill my brakes were smoking! I guess it was as steep as I thought! Ironically a B model mack wrecker towed me to the shop for repairs at 15 mph! I got the  Cumberland drops off and was on my way to Wva. And the 391 puked !,guess they're not designed to turn 10000rpm lol

The "rest of the story" After the accident an old "Reformed Mennonite" Noah Yoder, and his wife Sarah, (funny how you remember that stuff) rode me to a store to make a phone call.I carried that diaphragm around for months, as evidence to the equipment failure, thinking they might fire me for the accident.Nobody ever said a word!

that was one of those O shit moments  lol  glad ya survived

  18. Hurst scrambler, unless I am missing something ,Would seem more practical to buy the beautiful red "binder" With the good frame and ""pirate" any parts you could use off the grey one and sell the rest to recoup what you've got in the red one,or do you feel you are too far along on the grey one and have spent too much(frame sections etc) to not continue on the grey one? Also the body may have some value.I have little knowledge of agricultural equipment ,was just wondering!Plus it has power steering !
  19. Gearheads,If you're referring to Hurstscrambler' crash course in two stick 101, looks like he made it home! By the way I taught myself how to split a triplex, before any one taught me that little nugget of info, always split two handed held the wheel with my knee, couldn't figure out why I always got that little grind! Duh!Well I got my buddy a " master of the compound" a job with my employer and I was riding him to the office in the B model. After a few shifts he said pull over a..hole,and proceeded to illustrate how to split correctly!lol
  20. I hear ya Mike.my buddy's dad was a steel hauler, had a Polaroid photo of a wrecked flatbed with a load of 3" pipe. One section of pipe got loose, went through the back of the cab and through the drivers head!,then out the windshield. He was just sitting there in a normal position with the pipe through his head!I thought about that every time I tied down a load of pipe!
