  1. That was the gist of my suggestion, it would be quick, easy and budget friendly, and it really would not change the look of your truck. Another suggestion is in the mean time, check with your local dealers for a new "take off" tank, it seems like that is an item that often gets changed before the truck gets delivered because a customer wants a different size, or maybe would have scratches or blemishes that the customer would not accept. 84 gal is a popular size.
  2. Would it work to isolate that tank, leave it dry, and run out of the left?
  3. Sounds like you gave it a good shot. Hope it stays in the US. Anxious to see your pictures. Dave
  4. I see in the local news that Mack did not renew their contract with LPP in Lancaster to build chassis, and the plant is slated to close in early September. Anybody heard who and where production is moving to?
  5. I agree with Rob. This appears to be an exceptionally clean and straight truck. The other thing I noticed was the power steering reservoir under the hood, power steering would sure make for a more driver friendly ride. the other nice thing about this truck is it looks like it can be driven and enjoyed just the way it is. If you can swing the initial $18K price, you're probably much better off than buying a $3,500 major project, it doesn't take long before you're looking at $18,000 figure in the rear view mirror!
  6. While it is billed an "all Mack" show, nobody has ever got turned away.
  7. Or click on so it opens full size, then he can read it from across the room.
  8. Reminds me of simpler ways and times.
  9. Some suggested lodging in the area - Holiday Inn Express, Lititz 717-625-2366 Country Inn & Suites, Manheim 717-665-5440 Hampton Inn, Manheim 717-665-6600 Hampton Inn, Ephrata 717-733-0661 Red Carpet Inn, Manheim, 717-665-3118
  10. Post all you want. The more pictures and information you can post the better for you. Let me know and I'll take pictures for you. If you still have it in October, we would love to have it at the Gerhart show October 5th and 6th 2012!!!
  11. I might be a bit biased, but this was my favorite part of Macungie (2011 that is) http://youtu.be/GRUBM_32NB0?t=3m45s
  12. I was looking at the Macungie thread, and the guys were talking about awsome. It reminded me of a youtube video someone showed me. Now, I'm neither a huge Cat engine fan, or a Peterbilt fan, but it you want to talk about awsome, check this out. Make sure your speakers are on. In case you missed it, this is a 3412 (yes a 3412) Cat engine. (eaaasy on that throttle!!!!)
  13. Tackaberry had known about these trucks and had talked about them for some time. For some reason, the man that owned them never even titled them, never registered them, never ran them, I think they all have less than 1,500 miles on them, and the Pete and the Acar are nearly perfect. The Diamond Reo had been painted, but I suspect that was done as soon as he (the original owner) bought it. I believe it is a 1971, a Lansing Mich built truck, 335 Cummins / 15 spd RR. If I heard correctly, it has less than 200 miles on it. The Pete and Acar are mid 80's vintage. The Acar is the only one I got an interior shot of. Tackaberry had just picked them up, and they had not done anything with them yet. I'm glad to see them get these trucks, because they will be preserved as they are for others to enjoy.
  14. I've seen them three ways, with Econodyne on one side, on both sides, and not at all. Originally it had Econodyne on the left side only, so that's how we left it. The V8 emblems were added. This hood came off of a Cummins powered RW in California. "David" has the original hood. The truck had a barnyard red paint job on it when we got it. The color was actually a mistake, we wanted the original green which was much darker, but when we saw it in the spruce green color, we never told the painter any different.
  15. I don't know how many guys heard the story about the three trucks Tackaberry just bought in New England, a 359 Pete, an Autocar Legend Limited Edition, and an axle forward Diamond Reo. These trucks are virtually new, never registered and never put on the road. An incredible find!
  16. Thanks for the compliments. There are more pics in Garage section. It is an E9 450, 12 speed with 50k rears. It really is my son's project, and it is has Pa "classic" registration, but we wanted a working class truck, and would not hesitate to take it anywhere.
  17. Jim, There's not as much parts help out there for the little Mack as there is for Chevy's, GMC's, Ford's and even Internationals. One of the best resources is right here, and keep an eye on Ebay. There are specialty companies for rubber items, electrical and brake system items, and hopefully you can match some items up. You're restoration is going to be a labor of love, and get ready to spend some serious $$$$. The DE is pretty unique, and there was not that many built to begin with. Familiarize yourself with other Mack models that may share same or similar components. The fact that your truck has been stored outside, and partially dis-assembled tells me that it must of had an engine problem that the original owner decided not to fix, so basically all the systems on the truck are unknown condition, and you're pretty much going to be starting from scratch from the frame up. That's not to say your truck does not have potential, because it does. Many owners have started with alot less, and ended up with beautiful trucks, but I would not be surprised to see a restoration project go well past the $50,000 mark. If you decide to sell the truck, you're better off to sell it now rather than to put more money in it and loose interest down the road. Stay in touch and let us know how the story ends.
  18. Sorry Jim, we're so used to picking on each other, nobody attempted to answer your question. This can be a touchy subject, so here goes. A good starting point with something like this truck is always scrap value, There's usually some emotion attached to something like this, from you the owner, and also from readers here that just hate the "s" word, but it's really hard to put a value on that. The first number that comes to my mind is about $400. Your truck looks solid from this one picture, but it's not much to go on, and it also looks like it is missing alot of parts. Some will say that it's worth more than that in parts, it may be to the right person, but how many guys are looking for parts for a DE? And a potential buyer on the east coast, how much money is he willing to put into moving it? If you're serious about selling it, you're going to have to put some effort into it, including how much help you can offer any potential buyer to move and load it. Dave
  19. On the ATHS web site, in the members section, there is a letter from Pa DOT dated from 2000 that addresses questions to the DOT about regulations applicable to antique trucks, and the theme seems to be that antique trucks that are not being operated for commerece, are not subject to Motor Carrier Safety regulations, CDL requirements and fuel tax (trip permits) reporting requirements. Keep in mind, this letter is from 2000, and you should use your own judgement. Even though technically our vehicle is not subject to the same rules and regulations, it's just good practice to maintain it as if it were.
  20. If you're looking for a B75, do you know about that one sitting along route 322 east of Honey Brook. Don't know anything about it, I just know it was there last week.
  21. Calling professor Olivetroad, are you just going to let this pass?
