  1. I had a driver call me years ago, 230 Cummins, said it ran hot,, and was knocking,, shut it off and it wouldn’t start back ( locked up) I drove about 30 minutes to him ,, it started up when it cooled , no knock, sounded ok , drove it back to shop and pulled the pan and you could see liner scoring on one cylinder, probably would have did what yours did if it had ran much more, that liner is not that thick in the o ring groves, It’s hard to tell if it was overheated before you got, I think you got some good advice from the other guys , and good call on your part to go through the injectors . You won’t have to worry about it when you head out on a long road trip.
  2. That’s a Beast! Never saw one. , Thanks for sharing.
  3. My 51 LJ has the same set up, not sure if they have that but may know where you can find one, Call Ralph Mahoney & Sons, you can find there numbers on the internet. I put a Jake brake on my 220 Cummins and spoke with Tom Mahoney, Super Nice people. He fixed me up with all the gaskets I needed.
  4. Thank you,, I need to polish some more, yes the old tube types are noticeable for sure
  5. Im glad ( under the circumstances) that you got it in the shop before the weather gets messy. I have a 220 parts manual if you need it , I’ll send it up , the part numbers are old but Cummins can still change them over.
  6. It was restored in 1975 and had a LOT of stuff chromed , I’m collecting more info about it and I will put a detailed post in the antique form
  7. Nice looking truck! I’ll stay on the lookout for fenders and brackets.
  8. I got busy working for a few weeks and haven’t done much to the LJ ,, can’t complain about the work,, I need the money to support my “Truck Addiction “ went to a local truck show today, in Cherokee,NC . A friend of many years brought his B73 ,, When he got it back in the 80s it was a single axle day cab, with a Mack engine,, he put it on a newer model tandem air ride, and a turned up 400 Cummins,, it may not be noticeable from the picture ,, but he added 6 inches to the back of the hood, fenders, radiator are set forward, gives plenty of room for Horton air fan and more room to access the engine,, So I had a good dose of motivation today!
  9. I can’t recall seeing that happen before, I have had the top flange break and drop the complete liner, probably all caused by setting for years,,, mine may be the same way. Hopefully just cylinder kits , bearings and gaskets. It’s just a big hassle to pull it having to take care of all the perfect paint.
  10. O my ! Im sorry about the engine problem ,, I have had a few Cummins getting coolant in the pan , hopefully when you pull the pan you can add a little pressure while it’s still full of coolant and see were it’s dripping down at ,, I have the same concern about my 220 because even though I was the last to drive it with a load , and it ran great,, it’s been setting since 1990s , I have started it and it’s full of coolant, but I’ve not worked it.
  11. It’s a universal fuse box, it’s got 12 fuses, it’s even got some ground locations ( probably want needs many on a all steel interior) it has lights that come on if a fuse blows,, I ran a positive from a master disconnect switch and grounded the other side, There aren’t that many circuits to wire up , I am hoping this box will simplify it some
  12. A little more progress today, got the electric wiper motors mounted and wired ( thanks Matt for the tips and part numbers and pictures! ) I have officially started a wiring harness ONE wire to the Wipers ,,, At least I’m off and going with it .
  13. Great look ! Your doing a good job,, it looks like a factory install .
  14. That Bed will look nice with new wood, I see what you were talking about the cross members, I have bought some at Fleetpride for some trailers, maybe check if they have the same size. And yes that L cab is roomy! 2 nice rides for sure.
  15. I like it , no matter how it got there! My thinking is if that steering wheel is molded brown someone ordered it that way? Hopefully someone with way more B model expertise then me can help you.
  16. I have a great Maximum Overdrive story,, much too long to go into detail here,, Very short version,, a friend of mine was working at the White dealer in Wilmington NC , Stephen King came in and wanted to buy some trucks, My friend rode him in one, and he told him he was going to make a movie there ( and much of the film was shot in Wilmington) my friend said it sounded kinda crazy to him! King bought several trucks, I can’t remember how many, but the Western Star with the clown face was one and the wrecker that crashed the 2 newlyweds was one ( actually it was the shop wrecker they were using) He went into more detail about the whole deal . But that’s a little history i can share .
  17. Yes I’m so glad to have had Family members and Guys I worked with when I was young,, that was part of the “ Greatest Generation “ , I cherish the countless stories they told me,, Literally , from Pearl Harbor, to the Battle of the Bulge ( Even my Grandmother made Parachutes working at American Enka during WWII ) . They sacrificed so much for us . Thank you for the picture ,, and again, THANK You for your Service!
  18. Yes thank you for the information,, Thank you for your service to Our Country !
  19. Yes he is,, He was part of the “ Greatest Generation “
  20. I took the Day off yesterday, My Friend that I got the LJ from back in 1979 passed away over the weekend, he was 91 , Great guy, Army Veteran, I would show him pictures of my recent progress when I would visit him. I was Truly Honored to be one of his Paul Bearers . His real name was “ Hubert Mack Jones “ . I have a lot of great memories of places we went with the LJ , Rest In Peace my Friend!
  21. I’m sure they will turn out nice, you’re moving along , if I can spend a hour a week on mine It makes me feel better about it , after letting it set 30 years.
