  1. Anybody else here install their own windshield? Have you had any problems with leaks? Mine is leaking inside on both ends. Not sure how that is possible with a new rubber and what looks like a proper fit.
  2. This is what I put on my B-61. It's not original, but it looks great and is close enough.
  3. What a nice looking truck. I like the color a lot. You should be proud to own it.
  4. Take one that is intact to a glass cutter. That's what I did. Brand-new glass.
  5. Again, many thanks to DBLEW for selling 'Mater to me and my family. I've thoroughly enjoyed this project...and am glad it's almost over.
  6. Always was a fan of the R model. Nice truck. You did a good job with it.
  7. I present to you the ballistic missile submari...err...'Mater. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IlSa2ErtExI&feature=youtu.be There were 133 days between the first photo on day one until today.
  8. Ask and ye shall receive. Here are some pics, one of the body before sandblasting, one after sandblasting, and a few after paint.
  9. OK gents, I just got in 30 minutes ago, and after a looooong day of moving the body, setting it up, sandblasting, moving it and setting it up inside to paint, welding some patches in, fixing a few more things, it's now finished. Painted. Sorry, no pics. I forgot to snap a couple when I was done. Perhaps I can post a few tomorrow. BTW, we might put the body back on the truck tomorrow, too.
  10. Did more work on the dump body today. Torched a few things off it, did more welding and grinding. Plan is to sandblast and paint tomorrow.
  11. Started work on the dump body today. The chute door was caked solid with asphalt, but now it's all free and working properly. I did a bunch of grinding and welding on it, too. It certainly looks better, but I've got another morning's worth of torching, pounding, and welding left to do before sandblasting it. If all goes well, I'd like to get it painted this week.
  12. I tallied up all the hours put into 'Mater so far: Me: 400 My uncle: 100 My dad: 40
  13. Yesterday I installed the fan. Had to clean it as best as I could, because it appears to be original (or close to it). Ran the wire to a new toggle switch by the fuel gauge and powered it by a wire off the ignition switch. Put an inline fuse between the two. Took it out for a ride.
  14. Today's progress: 1. Greased the truck again. After steam cleaning it, it seemed like the sensible thing to do. 2. Took the driver's dashboard out, stripped it, primed and painted it. That was the last part of the interior to not have paint (because painting it in place earlier would have been difficult with all the gauges in place). 3. While the gauges are out, I took the fuel gauge apart to clean the glass, which was dirty and cloudy to the point where you almost couldn't see through it. Now it's clean and clear. I also attached a new needle to the tachometer. All I did was cut a piece of plastic out of an Armor All container and super glue it to the small piece that was still there. 4. Replaced all the small bulbs that light up the dashboard. Hopefully, I will have pics for you tomorrow.
  15. BTW, does anyone know where I can find the brake switch on this truck? Obviously, it's needed to hook up the brake lights, and I don't know where it is. Thanks.
  16. That's not a metal plate you are looking at. It's rubber, and it works just fine. I've got a piece of fire hose that will go over it to protect it from the elements.
  17. No, that's the power. Many of the lights are self-grounded. The license plate light ground is attached to the bolt that fastens the solid rubber pad to the chassis.
  18. Today's progress: 1. Put the 3 bar light on the back. I have a close up picture of the way I hooked all six rear lights into one post on the tail light circuit. 2. I also put the dump piston pin (actually a 3ft. steel rod) back in. 3. Headlight switch crapped out, so I bought a replacement for it.
