  1. We live in a "disposable society" today. 30-40 years from now, no one will be pulling CHU's out of the weeds to restore like they do B Models now. We have a young boy here that does all the Bull Gears, sadly he was in the middle of a major overhaul so I took the job. Im to old for this sh*t. LOL
  2. We actually have done more bull gear failures on Detroit 60 series than Macks. However at least the gears on the Detroit are in the front and not the back. One of the downfalls of the over head cam engine . I miss the E-Tech's. LOL
  3. There is a 5 year/ 500000 mile warranty on Bull gear failures as well
  4. This was supposed to be fixed by 2012. The failure was due to high oil temp to the gear train, This was fixed by software downloads that opened the oil valve at a lower oil temp so the timing gear bearings didnt get to hot ( All part of the "Clean Idle" crap) The oil filter stand is a maze of thermostats and oil control valves. They improved the bull gear as well. The failures really dropped off after 2012 but still happen , we only do 1 or 2 a year here.
  5. Here are both the service bulletins. I remember doing alot of them. Ill check and see if I can locate the kit if it hasnt been thrown away. Im doing a bull gear failure in a 2014 MP8 right now. I think Id rather be hit in the head by Mike Tyson than do this. MP7 idler gear pinning.pdf MP8 idler gear pinning.pdf
  6. Yes , that is a CCRS injector. Original part number for a 460 HP injector is a 736GB410M. The Reman part number is now 736GB420M3X. Here is a chart I put together for the 350HP and up CCRS engines that shows turbo and injector part numbers scan0325.pdf
  7. If this is in a RD. You might rig up 5" exhaust with a good Walker high flow muffler. I was thinking the RD's had 5" at turbo and necked down to 4" pipe and a 4" in/5" out muffler. Dont know how much it would help but it couldnt hurt.
  8. If its the Behr fan, here is the troubleshooting for it. If on this fan, if it ever locks solid its bad. Also it will never totally freewheel like an air fan clutch. In the bulletin it shows where to put 12 volts and ground to the fan to make it disengage. remember it might take 10 or more minutes to disengage and even longer in cold weather. Also when you run your defroster in cold weather, your AC compressor is engaged. If you have high AC head pressure it could be turning the fan on. sb215024 ASET Behr fan.pdf
  9. Thats good news! Mack uses 2 different part number boost pressure sensors on the ETECH style motors. The early ETECH, the CCRS and the ASET AI use the same sensor. The ASET AC ( EGR cooled 2004 CH/CX and later CXN/CHN ) use a different sensor . They both look exactly the same and the incorrect one can easily be installed . If the wrong one is installed in a AC engine it casuses very low power , check the part # . Also on the 2004 CH and CX with the ASET AC engine , the boost pressure sensor can rub the air filter piping and break the sensor. Add a 45 degree 1/8" pipe fitting to turn the sensor down. Bulletin attached sb273008 2004 Boost pressure sensor.pdf
  10. If no fault codes, Im thinking check fuel pressure and turbo/boost /intake/air filter first . If truck has single exhaust , check muffler for broken baffle blocking exhaust flow . I've seen the muffler issue more than a few times.
  11. I don't know for sure. I know max boost is around 33 psi. The truck will also derate for low boost as well. I don't know if the ECM looks at boost when controlling fuel delivery. Here are a couple of service bulletins on the 460 CCRS. CCRS wastegate operation.pdf Wastegate 4-5 code CCRS.pdf
  12. They can make as many new cars as they want. However now that my mandated Obama-care health insurance cost me more a month than my $827 house payment, I'll never buy one. I'm keeping my 2002 and 2004 Chevy truck and Tahoe. Let the "Free Market" decide what cars the consumers want built, not the government.
  13. On the CCRS engines, I would not go to 460 HP. With the 460 HP you have to use the wategated turbo and install boost sensor. If for any reason the boost is not in the correct range (to high or to low) , the ECM will derate power. We have problems with keeping the boost just right after the truck get some miles on them. What we do is download to 427 and put the 427 turbo on but use 460 HP injectors. Injector part # 736GB420M3X. After downloading to 427 HP, we go back to Mack and ask for engine data file 1MS5135. Runs with the 460's then.
  14. Here's a bulletin on it. Read it carefully. They had alinment problems and you had to also change another pipe. Early flex pipe issue.pdf
  15. As I have said before on here, Owning a new truck is now like owning a BMW ( or insert any European auto maker). You better get extended warranty or ditch it as soon as the warranty runs out. I"ve seen lots of 2008 and even 2010 trucks junked and sold for parts because of the cost of repairs were too high.
  16. And what is the actual fault code that you are getting?
  17. Heres some Mack tips on the J1939. Data Link2.pdf Data Links1.pdf
  18. Heres the kit # and instructions. clutch cable kit.pdf
  19. 99% sure its the EGR elbow from the EGR valve to the cooler. Thoses can be a pain to get sealed . Any tme we have it loose/off , we always pressure test whole system before we put the exhaust piping back on. The end of the elbow that goes on the EGR cooler has a floating ring in it that has to be sealed perfectly. Of course you can't see if its lined up because the clamp covers it. Last week I fought with one for about an hour before I got it sealed.
  20. Start narrowing it down, First unplug the rear tail light harness back by tail light and retry, then, unplug complete hood harness and retry. Then unplug turnsignal switch. There was a recall on the fuse panel by the clutch pedal on some trucks for water getting in to relays and fuses
  21. Try the one piece surge tank and look at these. Coolant Push ASET.pdf Oil cooler screen.pdf One Piece Surge Tank.pdf
  22. Here's a some tips that a guy at Mack sent me years ago. scan0310.pdf
  23. In my notes on 2010 and up trucks, you should have 1.8 to 2 psi of boost during regen. Also did you do a DRV valve test? If its not working , temps wont get hot enough for a parked regen. The early 2010 emissions engines had DRV valves, Its the valve on the turbo output pipe, sometimes called a turbo by pass vave
