  1. As a off topic un related but sort of related thing Siddons of Sidchrome spanner fame, (I suspect only Australians will know what Im talking about here) anyway they made all sorts of things including spanners and sockets and they had a life time unconditional guarantee You broke one with 10 feet of pipe and 25 stone gorilla hanging off the end they just gave you a fresh one Anyway in the 80's they sold out to Stanley the yanky company and they said the reason they sold out was they couldnt compete because the cost of energy in Australia not the common myth that is always put forward that the wages are to costly With the way power prices have jumped in Australia in recent years I would think this would been a even greater influence than before Funny thing is we dig our coal up and export it China and around the world We also dig up our iron ore and send it around the world And our bauxite our oil and gas And then we buy back the finished product Now either I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed because either these over seas companies are making the products for less than cost or maybe just maybe Australia is selling the raw products for less to the overseas countries than they do to Australian companies I know we almost give our iron or coal and gas away for a lot less than it is sold for in Australia Dunno the whole shows on the nose I reckon Paul
  2. Yeah thats what Im talking about They have to flex a fair way so the axles track on tight turns KS I think put up a broucher some years ago of how the Macks work, if he reads this it would be good if he could share it again Anyway the Mack rear end is designed to steer and follow the front with a reduced tyre scrubbing Paul
  3. I dont think this will help as it will just try and drive thru the power divider which isnt really a power divider If it was a diff it would happen just driving down a road with just a gentle turn If it was a power divider it would happen driving down a straight road as even the smallest of tyre changes or the like would cause any wind up to happen in a very short distance I guess you could easily prove if the power divider is working by just jacking up one wheel and rolling the one wheel with the truck in neutral When you are turning sharp do the axles track, as in do the axles step out and follow out of align like they are meant to ?? has some one changed the rubbers in the spring carriers on the axles ( we all have different names for these) and maybe these have been changed and dont allow the axles to track on a sharp turn Paul
  4. Couldnt agree more You are so right, we can blame all of us as we didnt support them but then again they didnt try to do the right thing and move with the times We can also blame the governments that took all the import duties away But it gets a bit more complicated than that Why did the import duties vanish ?? This lies squarely with the UK's insistence with joining the EEC (Eastern European Community) or the EU as we know it today For this to happen they (the UK) had to stop having protected markets in the Commonwealth, for people that havent grown up in the Commonwealth this wont meant much The Commonwealth was the British Empire and all exports thru out the Commonwealth were export duty free and the Commonwealth dealt largely in its self, the UK bought almost of the exports from around the Commonwealth and the Commonwealth bought almost all of the UK's exports This is why we had crappy pommy trucks and cars for so long Anyway when the the UK joined the EU the Commonwealth countries lost the export markets over night and this caused a huge amount of financial trouble around the Commonwealth The only way that other countries around the world would allow countries like Australia to start exporting to them was for Australia to drop our tariffs that protected ours and the UK's industries The unknown down side to all this was all the cheap imports from Asia as Asia was mainly a nothing on the world stage back But once the flood gates were opened there was no turning back The irony is that the UK and the big business in the UK that forced the UK government to join the EU as they (the big businesses) thought they could compete in Europe found they never could and as a result almost of the UK's manufacturing has gone And now the UK is doing it's best to leave the EU This I am afraid is to little to late Yes we all have a hand in what has happened here As another side note, I find it interesting how that Mack and Kenworth still make trucks here and there is a waiting list and I think it is 12 months for Kenworth and and 9 months for Mack It does show if you make what people want you still can compete Paul Oh yeah I still drive a Holden dunny door X six 1 tonner and the Princess has her Dunny door Adventurer wagon and no I wouldnt buy another Holden even if they still were making them, the build quality is crap I would by the dirty old XF Falcon
  5. Have you changed the tyres on the rear at all ? Are they all still the same size ? If the tyres arent matched you need to group them into the nearest size pairs and run them diagonally opposite Paul
  6. air intake hose collapsing in under vacuum down the big hill causing it to scavenge air from everywhere else and drawing in some oil with it Maybe pull the air intake hose of at the turbo and take it for a run down a big hill and see if its any better, sort of eliminates a whole heap of things Paul
  7. Maybe a key way on the driven pulley Maybe the belt driving the pulley is slipping But if you can hear cavatation that points to air getting in the system to me or maybe a blockage on the oil supply side thats floating across the inlet every now and then But Im way out of my depth here Paul
  8. some more for your listening pleasure
  9. Here you we like our Valueliners so much blokes have made songs about them
  10. Ok peoples time for some real dumbness now I have even worked out put music on the video, so it may help to keep you awake as you watch or listen to me dribble on like the fool that I am Any the Mack has progressed a fare way since the last video (I think ) ???LOL So here you go sit back relax and with any luck you will have a laugh , I know I did Paul
  11. Be aware that if it hasnt been running for a while maybe the rings are stuck in the pistons and it may not be the end of the world if you can get the cylinders to fire I would pull the injectors and join the to a injector line out of the motor and see if they are working when you wind the motor over Also a hydraulic porta power and a pressure gauge can be used to see how the injectors fire and at what pressure they operate at if you are somewhere with no test benches near by
  12. Looking at the diagram above I think maybe you have the supply and return lines confused The reason I say this is that I would have thought the supply lines come from separate supplies as in each valve for each side and on the ones you have marked they share a common supply So maybe your missing something on the supply side here as in the spool valves might be leaking the air in And plus a filter is normally on the return line otherwise the filter would have to handle a couple of thousand pounds of hydraulic pressure Anyway maybe some thoughts there and maybe I have no idea as I dont muck about with these so maybe best not to listen LOL Paul
  13. Im no expert on transmissions, I dont have all the numbers in my head, Im not really that smart But having said all of that I have rebuilt a few transmissions in my time and these vary from little car types to 4x4 to trucks like my Mack farm tractors dozers etc and the list goes on I have never found that every single bearing is stuffed or that all the gears and shafts are worn, most times its only a few things that are badly worn and a lot of the selector linkages and forks can be built up for little cost and when I have done these I wonder to my self why I put up with it for so long ?? I find most times its only a few hundred bucks in parts and a week or two of time the one exception to this was the 12 speed in the Mack, I replaced the high - low air split gears and that was a couple of grand I seem to recall but its a huge job to drop a triple counter shaft box out in the drive and I figured it would last me out when done So I guess from all my dribble here Im suggesting maybe look at what is badly worn and see what linkages can be built up and ground back into shape to make it nice and tight and smooth and rattle free The only quad boxes I have driven were fairly quiet if I remember rightly and the sticks didnt rattle all over the place either Paul
  14. I would expect compression figures in the 400 psi range Paul
  15. Im not the sharpest tool in the shed and some might even say Im a few kangaroos short in the top paddock but you need to take a step back and study the facts of what you know We know the injector pump is reasonably well timed if not timed spot on and is more than likely correct after checking it so many times We know the injector pump isnt 180 degrees out of time as if this was the case diesel would be coming out the inlet We also now know that injectors 1 and 6 are getting fuel We know the injectors are working as this is all the smoke coming out the exhaust in the form of unburnt diesel We dont know if these two cylinders have any compression ?? We dont know if the valves are sealing ?? We dont know if there is metal in the sump ?? theres some really good advice been given here in the post above and thats were I would start Paul
  16. Back the valve adjustment off on the two cylinders and see if it runs better If no better I reckon you need to compression test the motor and see whats going on I would expect all cylinders to be within 50 pounds of each other on a good motor Paul
  17. When you crack open 1 and 6 does come out at the nut ???
  18. Sorry been a tad busy on the farm and havent looked at this till now Did this run fine before the injector pump was changed or reco ? What was the reason for pulling the pump off at the start ? What was done to the injector pump and why ? If you pull 1 or 6 injector and clamp them to a injector line does any fuel come out and if so is it as it should be a fine high powered spray ?? If these injectors dont fire then try swapping them with others that do to see if its in the injector or pump Gotta start at the basics here I think Paul
  19. Swish man the Princess wont go on a cruise no matter how hard I push I do have some plans of what I might do next You jokers wont believe how dumb I am, you are gunna have to wait till the next video to find out why Let me put it this way , my dumb ness is due to fact that Australia is so dry Paul
  20. Maybe need to resize the picture, as in the amount of pixals, and I have no idea how to do this on a iphone I was trying to load something up the other day and end gave up Paul
  21. I find the whole thing of "the all new what ever it is" and its just had a new grill or whatever other cosmetic change a bit insulting. When they went from the B model to the R model it looked like a all new truck the same when they went to the CH model it looked like a all new truck. Now try as they might this is not a all new truck,it has had some major improvements namely the stand up cab and sleeper but all the rest isn't really that much of a game changer. Had they have put some major up grades in that are game changers things would be different but sad truth is there isnt and this I feel is wasted opportunity. Dont get me wrong the CH cab is a good cab as is the ACCO cab that is made in Australia for International truck, but International Australia dont go on about a all new truck. They instead talk about what upgrades and how good that cab still is in todays market, they dont treat the buy public like fools, they play to its strengths and it is till a good seller even today 40 something years later. Maybe a lesson there for Mack. I remember when Harley Davidson nearly went broke in the late 70's I think it was trying to play everyone else's game instead of doing what they did best ( build big uncomfortable thumpers). Anyway they had a major change in their direction and started making what they made good and made it even better. They proved that you can make something and make it well and charge a bucket load for it and still have a huge waiting list of new orders. Also Kenworth Australia I think have a 9 month waiting list for a new truck, they dont make super slippery poxy thing they make trucks that look like a truck and sound like a truck and also are cheap to run as do Mack Australia. Should be some lessons there. People will tell you what they want if you listen. They old V8 E9 ValuelIners out here have sold for over $100,000 in recent times, that's a lot of money for a truck 30 plus years, surely there's a lesson there, similar figures are received for good old Superliners as well. Paul
  22. I was out and about on the hwy a couple of days ago (yes I am allowed out every now and then) anyway a thought occurred to me This truck with its super poxy mirrors and the like made to look as ugly as a hat full of ass holes in the so called name of fuel economy, does all this poxy plastic crap work because as I drive along the Hwys in Australia I noticed that not only dont Australian Macks have this crap hanging off them we put proper mirrors and big air intakes up each side on new Mack Tridents and Superliners and our motors have a different chip to give more power and fuel economy is just as good and we pull bigger weights So does this poxy plastic snot hanging off the truck help at all or is it some pimple faced fresh out of uni design from someone thats never driven trucks for a dollar The new stand up cabs a winner for sure and is long over due but I dont think people are dumb enough for the plastic gimmicks or maybe they are Which looks more like a real truck this or this piece of snot Paul
  23. LOL everything is easier on you tube or TV, I think they cut out all the swear words, interruptions and thinking time LOL Looking good Paul
  24. I prefer the standard Mack seat but to find anything any good is as rare as rocking horse shit so I just leave what I have It is almost embarrassing how little I new about this seat after all these years of sitting in it But a R model cab isnt really big enough to get to excited with adjustments anyway LOL Paul
