  1. And now Ozark, I am assuming it is a S cam brake, if so you can just wind the slack adjuster off with a 9/16 ring spanner Or if it is the normal maxi can you can just insert the "T" bolt thats on the side of the can and do up tight witha 3/4 spanner https://www.teamrunsmart.com/articles/truck-smart/june-2014/how-to-cage-your-brakes Paul
  2. I gotta say I learnt something here R models in Australia have a valve to push thats beside the air supply valve to the trailer Looks the same on the knob, black round but I think the writing is different Anyway I have never known what this valve is for and have asked plenty of people over the years I push it and never holds, just pops back out On my mates R model we were problem solving (having a drink and talking dribble) one night a few weeks ago and I noticed that at least one of the brake chambers is different to a normal maxi It looks like these DD3 when I googled it He had no idea as it never gave trouble and hasn't ever paid attention His R model is 83, so two years newer than Mrs Mack I wonder if that is what that valve ia for Must look into this another night Paul

  5. How bad are the cracks, a photo will help Inlet doesnt get very hot so maybe just grind it out and use some 2 pack epoxy to plug up the crack, it only has to be air tight The exhaust if it was mine and I couldn't find a good manifold I would just make a header up for it, probably in two bits because the motor is fairly long Or find a good manifold, we never had many petrol Macks in Australia,Im guessing the State's is different but manifolds seem to be a weak point in the U.S., guessing the extreme cold and the heat dont help Good look and I enjoyed looking at the photos Thank you Paul
  6. Have you pulled the head yet Might not be toast at all with pulling the head you may never know Paul
  7. A lot of people that collect old trucks or just plain like them have a totally different opinion the trucks than the the men that actually drove them 50 or 60 years ago Fantastic photos Paul
  8. Welcome, hoping the deal goes smoothly for you Paul
  9. I dunno about the governor been needed If it's like ones of seen on other makes it wont be needed but I have never seen yours so I have no idea sorry Great news about the motor not been seized Paul
  10. A lot of people make up a tool out of a old starter motor by welding a bar to the armature or shaft of the starter to put a lot of controlled force on the motor Or using a pinch bar on the ring gear if you have access Or chuck the wheels back on and have it in top gear and just tow it and drop the clutch Paul
  11. full credit to the original writer and more importantly the truck driver that did it Paul

Dont worry Swishman I don't know two tenths of stuff all about them either I need one and I like the old McGrath trailers Their tough and seem to last, got me a chassis tipper as I reckon theres less chance of putting it on its side Then I passed one yesterday on a float that has well and truly been on its side Maybe my plan is flawed ??? Paul

  20. I think so JoeH, from what was explained to me this has been going on since the beginning of time If we think about even 500 years ago fires would of burnt uncontrolled from one end of North America to the other, the same in Australia and no doubt Africa and South America Volcanoes have erupted and spewed more into the atmosphere in one day than man has in the last couple of hundred years Huge floods that spread many miles wide (up to 30 miles and behond) were a big part of a large area of inland Australia We really have no idea using the tiny snap shot of records we have I often think of WW2 and the mind boggling quantities of fuel used, whole cities burnt to the ground, the Coral Sea was polluted with out any thought and yet on the grand scheme of things it made no difference at all It feels to me that the sun is getting more intense than ever before, but that could be me just getting older Paul
  21. There has been plenty done over the years, some look good some not so good (my opinion only) Have a bit of a search on the forum and you will start to find what you and dont like Paul
  22. I dunno if the climate is really changing or not, and I believe no one does and we wont know until the future Scientific research requires funding and the best way to get funding is to create a problem and the the funding is free flowing to solve that problem So science has a vested interest in having problems that cant really be found, solved or cured So I feel it pays to keep that in mind when we think about climate change Some years ago I went and had look thru A.I.M.S. Australian Institute of Marine Science as they had a open day They had core samples from the Great Barrier reef and they can tell by the sediment layers how big the wet seasons are in the tropics The scientists told us that Australia has been a lot drier than we have ever seen, it once went for over 50 years without a large enough wey season for any sediment to reach the reef It also has been at times a lot wetter than we have ever seen So I'm guessing we can't really tell if the climate is getting worse or better from the short history that we have since settlement Paul
