  1. FOR A TRUCK WITH COMMERCIAL OR ANTIQUE PLATES I PAY $40 FOR TRACTOR INSPECTION iF THE TRUCKS NOT FOR HIRE GET ANTIGUE PLATES AND INSURACE(SAVE YOURSELF $10K
  2. Like Freightrain said Its a gear box with an extreamly low gear ratio. Its used to move heavy loads in the mud or up a steep incline. mostly found in off road trucks.
  3. if the trucking industry was smart they would look at some of the current trends in the auto industry. Classic looks are back in style. We see cars that share simmilar body lines for yesteryears. Headlights that work better but have the oldskool look. I think if they could bring back some of the B,R,L looks they might have a hot seller. They could start with just putting a new body on a current Med duty chassie and see if people like it. Just my .02
  4. hey Joe truck looks a little diffrent> I lost my copy that I made so dont louse yours!!! I havent looked hard for it but pissed as I wanted to show my friends you truck>
  5. If you count the gears it looks like its a 5 or 6 speed? He did a2nd gear start. 3rd gear and the wheel comes up a little again!!!!. I wonder how that driveshaft was built to with stand all that torque.
  6. Ever see a mack lift its leg on an offbreed?? not bad for what looks like a 5 speed
  7. I think Volvos ownership will keep the Mack name alive but thats not always a good thing, If they continue to make poor decisions like removeing mack parts in favor of off breed componets or rebadged volvo componets no one will think of a mack as a tuff truck. The trucking industry is known for slow change as most owners dont want something unproven on there truck. the only saving grace is if Volvo keeps the mack drivetrain seprate from Volvos and increases the options on Macks. Mack is a work horse but in todays market we need more options for owners. Many owners think a 400hp engine is the min for over the road. Its sad that many Lowboy trucks and heavy haulers wont even look at a mack anymore and that needs to change. there is a reason why people liked there R models and would rather have an old truck than a new one that has electrical issues. If Volvo can get more options and intrest towards macks than I think we have a chance... Time will tell Regardless my 78' RS wont stop till the wheels come off!!
  8. My END711 will slobber when cold. the exhaust fumes from the unburnt fuel will evacuate anyone in the aera on start up I get that same oily sludge that drips from the exhaust pipe. I havent had the truck on the road yet so cant say it gets better when up to proper temp. .
  9. I just finished this AMT mack R model kit. I made it to look like the first truck I drove after I got my CDL. I did not fit a intercooler and a few other parts but its basicly a replica right down to the wheel base, 1988 R model (ex Palumbo construction) 300 maxidyne 2 stick 6 speed camelback with 4.17 rears
  10. cool link !!!
  11. The mack gearboxes I have driven that were air shift (6-7-9-12 speeds) many had a hard grind with the splitter button, harder than any fuller I have driven. Not shure why its so hard. With fullers I can flip the splitter button (foot not on the gas pedal) and it wont shift unless I tap the pedal to give the gear box some "slack" with macks if you flip that switch you need to be ready to match rpms to the gear selection. I thik the fullers have a more gentle shift? I have heard some fullers grind that hard but not often?
  12. I think it was an option on most big engine superliner models? or it was needed for the V8s here is my bosses V8 superliner with twin air cleaners. it was delivered from mack to a dump truck dealer and fitted with some chrome. not shure if the aircleaners were added at mack or the dealer??
  13. Nice b model pumper. thanks for the pics
  14. I have heard that to get the XT program from a dealer you needed to have an all mack drivetrain. The visions I have seen all had off breed componets. I also heard the XT program is no longer avalible due to the EPA?
  15. not shure if "mack red" was used on B models but i know they used it on R models. PPG makes 'Mack Red" thats what I painted my B model frame with. If you cant find a PPG dealer to help you I can get the number off my paint can. Trent
  16. The rear end oil shoud not get over 100 deg if bobtailing empty. When I pull hils in the company truck I see 120-150 depending on the outside temps and grades. Just my.02
  17. I think I need to get a green and red R model for my next project http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=71...d+max&hl=en
  18. MI is a sad state I got a speeding ticket for 58 in a 55. and they wonder why they get a bad name
  19. The crack can be welded and should cause no issue of done correctly. Im not shure how the rookie DOT cops would feel about it but it wont fall off unless its heavely rusted thru. with no weight on it I cant see it as a issue. just keep your eyes on it after it gets welded Trent
  20. I did as Rick said I nstalled 2 new 12V battiries and ran them to a 12V starter charging with a new altantor. My B only had one batt box so it worked out fine. If I remember this was my cost from my mack dealer the batts were $110 for both the starter was $230 and the alternator was $120 To check if its positive ground just follow the + cabel off the batt and see if it goes to the frame rail congrats and get us some pics
  21. MY Long hood (RS700L) has the 6 cyl 285 Mack tip turbine . It has about 12"-14" between the fire wall and rear engine. Some day I would like to drop a E9 in it but for now it pulls great and cost next to nothing to keep it running. Someone correct me but are the 700 hoods 12" longer than R models??/ always wondered how much longer they were?
  22. this is a little off topic Rob..are you going to keep the Cat engine in the truck? I thought this was your R12 project?? have a good one
