  1. I did but not the 864 that came in 3 of the 5 truck used in the restoration. It has a 1973, 866@375hp and a double over Quad. The engine was rebuild by me 15 years ago. It has 4.17 rears so 70-75mph at 1600rpm's, governed at 2450, don't have to worry about passing to much of anything. It will not be pulling to many trailers these days. I know wrong color for a 866 but it is the right color for a 864. A V8 B model has a lot of differant parts from other B's
  2. I think the scrapers are getting about $4-5K for a core E9 these days. Back 15 years ago I lived in Ohio. I went to Canton to Aldeman's Truck Parts and they would not sell a part off of one. Every E9 they got in was going to Australia for $5K running or not, 4 or 5 a week. Dont know if they are still exporting everyone.
  3. I had one of my B's since 1996. It was 2012 when the wife said ether scrap it or get it done. Well you know what I did. It only took 17 years 4 doner trucks and a ton of parts, time and way to much money... she found out just resently how much money... She got a new Corvette out of it! In process and coming apart Done and at first outing in PA
  4. Sorta like the rule: supply and demand... Supply is dwindling but is demand? Where I am going here is maybe get some parts hooked up with guys looking for them. Not just in a comment in a past post.
  5. I see here if someone mentions a E9 that is sitting or possibly for sale it sparked interest. I have talked to many Guys through the years and everyone seems to know where several are. I have know of whole running E9 trucks go for $2500 mostly MH's. I could have bought a daily driven MH E9 with a 48' flat deck for $4000 back 10 years ago in Ohio, didn't have a place to keep it. Bought a good low mileage 94 CL engine last year for $6000 with a good double airride frame and 20K beam, an OK deal. I had rears so I didn't need them. It is EZ to have $20K in a rebuild these days. More and more there are stories of broken E9 trucks getting sold and repaired. What are they getting sold for before being fixed? What is the going rate for these engines/trucks running or not? I have heard that a crank can go for $10K, head $2K, inj. pump $3K. Some whole trucks are going for less than $10K and everyone is looking for parts from what I see. Parts/engines are out there so where are they and what are they really worth?
  6. Looks a little backwards with the Mack being pulled be a Chevy. Isn't that a little over the tow capacity of that thing, LOL.. No DOT down there? Like the Superliner, got a Maroon one myself. Great color for the truck black trim is classy.
  7. Man I sort of keep my pseudo play truck camouflaged from the wife... There no hiding that thing.... No hiding the checkbook ether. The old saying: How FAST do you want to spend applies. He must want to go pretty FAST!! I like that stuff a lot but that is looking like an EZ $150k build. Way COOL and pricey.
  8. Just a suggestion, from your questions you should seriously consider having a professional Mack mechanic do the work. The work you are talking about is not a small fix. Yes the trans needs split, Balancer comes off, gear removed, Rad removed more than likely, timing marks need to match. Then what about all the metal that is still in all your oil passages, cam bearings?
  9. Looks like some serious engine mod's going on. Single or Multicharger? Nice aluminum fromt cover and polish work!! Purple though... Really..
  10. I crap next you will be saying You Love MOPAR's too... Is that your truck?
  11. Cool clutch looks like and older Crower 3 disc. I hope that isn't an E9 painted Purple... Only AC's where Purple... LOL Joey tell it an't SO!!!
  12. I have to look into one of those when my setup starts giving me problems. Sounds like it is totally adjustable and can roll on the pressure with RPM. My leg gets a workout holding down the 4000lb one I got. Not something you want to drive everyday but it dose the job. You running Rockwell lockers? I got them on air and is a nice setup.
  13. That's a chunk of change!! What is the torque rating? I get that it is reliable but is it smooth like a metallic puck or is it like a NASCAR or drag clutch, in or out, no feathering unit. I have had many differant ones over the years. In the trucks it is smooth but my race car it's ether disengaged or all in and no in between. Can you inch up at a light with out chattering?
  14. Look at, parts wanted, Superliner crossmember it shows the A/C pump on an E9. If you need a better photo I have an E9 take out on a stand with the brackets still on it.
  15. Hay Albert, What did that clutch put you back? My twin disc is good for 4000 ft/lbs but after these mods maybe at its limits. Was that EZ to install? How's the pedal, a little stiff? Can it be driving daily? Cool looking unit!!
  16. Did my several years ago. Go to the Mack museum site and look at the list of vendors. There is one that does original wiring with the cloth covered wire as used originally. I don't know if it is as pricey as Watt's but it is probably were Barry gets his anyway. Take a minute and look it can only save your money.
  17. Maxidyne 865 325HP 5 or 6 speed Gold color Thermodyne 866 375HP 12 or more speed Silver color Thermodyne 864 255-310HP Triplex or Quad Green/gray color
  18. Getting back to the topic, major problems. with the old Mack v8's. 864 injector pump, junk! Cracking heads, bad design with injector nozzle about 1/4 inch from the valve seats. They even had an expansion joint machined in to prevent the cracking. dropping valve seats and valves. Blowing head gaskets, They need constant re-torquing. Coolant leaking around head bolts. Freezing and hoping the head off bolt. Main bearings, need to roll in a new set about every 150K miles. Smaller than the E9 main bearings. Don't have them against the governor up a hill and let off going down the other side. Valve seats cool down and fall out if heat goes out of head to quickly. Needed more maintenance than and I6. Was a one driver engine. Don't give one to the new kid... rods out the side.. Needed warmed up good before putting a load on it. Weight, about 600 lbs more than I6. The E7 was one of the best Mack engines in al around good power, low maintenance, and durability. Don't get me wrong I love these V8's but they are not at there best most of the time for many reasons. Nothin sounds like one... Only thing as good sounding is a Supercharged 275 Cummins at full tilt...
  19. Sould be the same as an E9. Both engine have a common block and front cover. Mount right side under secondary fuel filter. Belt off crank hub.
  20. Thanks, really did not know that. Intercooling would be much the same as an E9. Both engines have the same turbo and intake layout. There is a few inches differance in location but tubes could easily be bent up. I don't know if I would be turning up the pump and intercooling an 865/866 though. The heads are 2 valve and prone to cracking into the exhaust valve seat and dropping inserts. I had to go through a pile of heads to get a good set. Parts are a REAL issue, I have both engines and am just happy my 866 is as good as it is. It is rebuilt with less than 1000 miles on it. I did it back 20 years ago when Mack still had parts. Used standard main bearings and there were 3 differand standard bearing listed but only one set avalible at that time. Oil pressure is OK but runs 35-55 hot, almost 75 cold. Intercooling would get you about 40-50 hp but probably at a cost in broken parts. Just my two cents worth.
  21. English please, Don't know what all those capital letters mean?
  22. PM'ed you just could not post photo in PM. Get back to me there.
  23. This is a complete interior kit. It is used and was new in 2004 from Lancaster.
  24. That's funny... When I rebuilt the 866 with 27 degrees timing. I thought it was a lot. The engine I started with had 3 cracked heads!! I had to go through another 12 heads to find a good set. ALL 865/866 have at least one or two cracked heads no matter what. Maybe that is why Mack took a lot of timing out with the E9. Thats another question for Dale when I see him,TIMING.
  25. Al, Found Steve's notes on my engine. He was not into custom parts to much and used the military spec stuff. The injector tips are Bosch 0 433 171 341. Curt Price did my pump at Antrim, A stock motor runs best at 19 degrees timing as Steve states but I think I have around 25 degrees. What are you guys running on timing? My old 866 in the B755 had 27 degrees on the valve cover tag as spec. It sort of clackes a bit, I think it sounds good with a little "hunting" going on, about 50-100 rpms at idle, just a slight rock if Ya Know what I mean. That pump, injectors were done at the old R&R Mack in Twinsburg Ohio. Turbos.... All I know is bigger is not always better, more psi over a larger rpm range is for me. Pullers I think like it all at top rpm, is that right?I got two small turbo's on one of my cars and it is a rocketship beteewn 3500 to 7500 rpm's
