  1. This is going to look very nice on July 13th-maybe down by the pond??
  2. To say nothing of the fact that if you put a square horn on it, you will have to start wearing a flat brim baseball hat that is two sizes two big so it covers the top of your ears and start driving with air out of your seat so you can barely see over the dash! Actually could be worse-you could be asking about a quad locomotive horn!
  3. Read another article (Navistar press release??) a few days ago that said they had basically turned the corner. Had a lot of their warranty costs cleaned up and sales were on a positive rebound. Hope so-hate to see one of our last American builders go down the tubes.
  4. Nice- Wheels of Time had big article on Corbitts a while back. Only memory I have of them is big Army surplus wreckers (tnk retrievers) from WW II
  5. Matt-And I thought you were going to flip out over the DM in the West Haven Calendar- I bet that was a Genovese truck.
  6. Vlad I guess you have your mind set on flaps with the Bulldog, but here is an "older" look. I got these from Matt Pfahl. Don't know if he has anymore left
  7. Looking at the walls today and thought it might be interesting to see what "old artwork" some of us have posted. Can't imagine a "Cascadia" or a "VN" looking as good as these in 25 years!
  8. Thx Joe-too bad the Detroits are not an independent like the old days. even though GM owned it, they had good availability in a lot of "wrappers". Nothing like competition.
  9. Matt-Looks like it has less of a "disguise" than the US versions-agree with JH-can they be long for this world here in US?
  10. Well you can't say enough about product support. I say today, does anyone build a truly BAD product? My guess is all are pretty close-key is how does supplier stand behind it. My guess is with supplier components (Eaton, Cummins etc) the truck dealer plays a key part-does he shrug his shoulders and say.."not my problem-Cummis says no"-or does he go to bat for you. I have to believe its like everything else today-everything is a negotiation-shouldn't be but I think it is. the Service mgr that is a PITA on EVERY issue soon finds himself talking to a deaf ear. But back to the Detroit question-it IS now proprietary to Daimler products only right? PS-I'll take mine in bottles
  11. So if the Detroits are the best thing since canned beer then Daimler owns class 8??
  12. There is probably nothing .."that simple and reliable" in a Mi 17 chopper vs a Sikorsky made in the US or a Mangusta made in Italy. they are all complicated- the point I believe is the Afghans were FAMILIAR with the Mi -17. My bigger point-don't buy them anything! Not with my hard earned money. History provesthe poit-that part ofthe world is populated by tribes-nothing will ever change them
  13. Now boys be nice to Freightliner. The Germans are very smart. Ford consistently had around 10% of class 8 and probably 20%+ of class 6 and 7. Daimler steals the business for 300 million bucks, runs it for 10 years, avoids dealer suits and shuts it down. that is a cheap way to buy market share. Now once International is toast, they will own everything. Ford? Oh the genius behind that?, Jac Nassar, he is long gone-after he squandered millions on buying Aston Martin, junk yards, auto parts stores in England etc etc.
  14. Well the party line answer will be .."because the Afghans know how to work on the Ruski choppers-too expensive to teach them how to fix a Sikorsky". Bigger question? why spend a nickel on anything? When will we learn? we are dealing with tribes! Nothing will ever change-be it Iraq, Iran etc etc. We wonder why they kill us and we are trying to help them? Hell-they kill each other!
  15. Matt- Spartan Chassis? That means its a "Heavy Rescue". I remember when a "rescue truck" meant something like an F-350 or Cheby 3500 that carried just a bit more than an ambulance-like jaws of life etc. some of the departments around here have "heavy rescues" that are tandems!. Check out Minuteman trucks website and "recent deliveries" big tax dollars at work.
  16. Mike, Truck registration will be 10 bucks. Spectators $5, kids under 12 free. No parking fee. Your 761 will look good as it will not be shoehorned in so people can't get a good picture! Also we will have some good food vendors instead of the usual rubber burgers!
  17. Loos like it has a V-8 under the hood-so much for "antique" status
  18. Lazaro Paving doing a job at my house today. Class outfit, classic truck 12R-24 Spokes!
  19. Well guys after many years of holding our show at the Hudson Elks field, we are moving to a new location and date. Mark your calendars for Sunday July 13, 2014. We will be at the Lancaster Fairgrounds, Home of the Bolton Fair and the Ty-Rods car show. The Fairgrounds are located on Rt 117, 4.4miles west of Exit 27 on I-495. As many of you who attended last year's event at Hudson can attest, the Elks lost a lot of their field as the town fenced off a significant piece of property that abutted the Hudson High School and had been used by the Elks. this made for very crowded conditions. This will not be the case at the spacious Lancaster Fairgrounds so mark your Calendars accordingly.
