These guys are right, even a tight engine will crank longer and smoke more when it's cold.

Here’s a question for you guys. So, I see the driveshaft parking brake hub on this truck, but I don’t see the hand lever on the floor anywhere. How else would that be actuated? That’s not air operated at all is it? I didn’t look long at it and was kind of an after thought. I can’t wait to get it home to crawl all around it. The brake drums are frozen to the shoes so I was thinking about the brakes and realized I never saw the handle anywhere. First thing I do when I get it home is get the drums free.

I had my 673 pump rebuilt at Purrformance Diesel in Fredericktown, they charged $1,100 which included several new parts. They are very particular, seemed like they wanted to make sure it was right.

That’s a good question, I have no idea. How would I tell?
Jack one rear wheel up and spin one revolution, count how many times the driveshaft spins and divide by two (such as 9 driveshaft revs would be a 4.50 diff ratio).

OK; suggestions as to who can rebuild the fuel pump.
It's too bad you're in CA, we have a couple of shops in Ohio that still rebuild those pumps.

Only one thing better than a yard with a Mack in it...a yard with two Macks in it!

If the cab has lots of rust and the engine won't run, you're really looking at scrap price. That probably weighs 10,000 lbs so multiply that by metal price in your area. You could bump it up higher and see if you get any bites.

Mine had years of goop in the bottom when I bought the truck. I put some mineral spirits in it and let it sit, then drained it out...worked pretty good. Less harsh than acetone.

You could order custom colors. Are there any chips where you can see under that layer of paint?

Sounds like his problem was a relay valve, that would be my thought if a truck was acting like this.

Amen, thanks to guys like you standing in the gap, most Americans don't realize how fortunate we are to have an excellent military to keep things peaceful on our soil. I firmly believe that if we hadn't taken it to the terrorists in their country, we would have had more trouble in ours.

They always play a lot of radio chatter on Heavy Rescue 401, maybe it's 2 way radios or maybe CBs are more popular in Canada, eh?

In this month's Double Clutch, Matt Pfahl says he has 9 guys working in an 80' x 100' garage.

Especially 4 trucks from the same company in their original work cloths.. Reminds me of the PRIDE these fleets had in their equipment!!!
Yes, and Ralph Smith trucks were well-maintained. I have one for parts (cab rusted out); I'm using the radiator, front axle, transmission, fifth wheel, and some small parts off of it. Good maintenance kept these parts in good shape.

Michael, I still like yours better in the original livery..
Yes, there's something very cool about seeing trucks that still wear their work clothes. It reminds me of how things used to be.

He usually brings it to Macungie and Mack Day so you can look him up in a couple weeks if you get there. He drove my H613 to Macungie a few years ago and caught the H model bug. It is a neat truck. Mike
Do you have a photo of your H on here? I'd like to see it.

How do you stall it when this happens?
Flat, smooth piece of metal or wood--cover up the air intake and it'll shut down.

I voted for you, there's also a B model competing in some of the other categories--I voted for him there.

You could check with the Mack Museum (610-351-8999); they have a lot of information. If they help, make sure you donate some money to the museum. You could also watch ebay; a lot of Mack manuals show up on there.

Fuel Tank Vent
in Antique and Classic Mack Trucks General Discussion
Posted
Here's a question--I bought new fuel tanks and vented caps. Do I need separate vents for the tanks, or will the vented caps do the job?
