  1. Pretty nice looking truck...flathead gas motor. https://www.ebay.com/itm/276506954729?itmmeta=01J094PK6JBEMC5MG49W8Z2PJT&hash=item4061194be9:g:6VAAAOSwD51mak7N&itmprp=enc%3AAQAJAAAA4LICd%2Bascm27EdSDX6f58UzJN1Mj0Hxl1GSFENh3oLYROA4y7yv2Bw05%2BENccIcFk0lknUvybKIsJQWOBGSoxkW%2BpKg08nsi9eVMZp%2Bv5vvuIaIKTNi6L6S6I7RWzFXauzB7RUyVD3pmvHEHNuPSWnIQ2aXlUFbyw25%2FYPqiJUk6pQo9Bw0nFRWRZazzNWhK%2BhG5kus9njNIOEnKmYbQQT545zZzsD85runlVkgxRi3zBe96YOw4LnyD7q4Q3QsXdsIe448CXcuBz1XugBpoIHzxqkgt3yG7xk%2Bp35Nxki31|tkp%3ABk9SR7Cz2qSCZA
  2. I can't say I've ever seen a track hoe counterweight used as yard art! Nice video.
  3. My next chore was tackling the fuel tanks and lines. The right tank is too rusted and bent to save, but the left tank had just one rust hole (and a lot of rust, debris, and goop inside). I drained it and steamed/washed it thoroughly. Even after it dried, it still had rust flakes and dirt inside (baffle made it hard to get all clean). So as I was welding the one rust hole, I notice smoke coming out from behind the data plate so I popped it off and found this. I'm a terrible welder but I figured I'd give it a go so I cut out a square hole and welded in a patch. One nice thing about cutting the hole was I could reach inside and finish cleaning the tank. I coated the inside with Kroil to see if it slows down the rust. I had to air up the tank and re-weld pinholes a couple dozen times but now it's air tight. I installed the tank and some new lines yesterday; it's really nice to be able to start the thing without using a can of fuel hanging on the truck.
  4. Which side of the line was the Burger King? When I was there, the Nevada side had casinos and everything looked shiny and new but the Utah side looked pretty dismal.

  9. I did a little internet search and the consensus seems to agree with you-less corrosion in a positive ground system due to the direction the electrons flow.

Just to let everyone know, these two trucks will have to go to the scrap soon. I've had them on Craigslist for months but no serious lookers. I don't want to scrap them but they've got to go.

  19. Unauthorized pieces...that's hilarious! Why did they score the axles?
  20. It's rare to see an F model that's not all rusted out--if I was looking for one, I'd be very interested.

  23. Crazy story! All kinds of nuts in this world.
