  1. Very nice find!!
  2. What kind of help? Plenty of different forums here to choose? Or just how to get around the site itself?
  3. Are you over-tightening it? Just snug would be okay. I always insert filter, then lay gasket on top of housing, then install lid while pushing down on lid to hold gasket in place as I tighten the nut. A little dash of fuel on gasket to let it slip around some without bunching up. Just a thought?
  4. If you come back across the Buckeye and want to swing by Canton, stop in. Just about 1hr north of I70 on I77.
  5. I "tried" the 5" pipe on my 673. Used a "racecar" style 4" in/out straight thru muffler and it about made me deaf!! It really roared in the cab. I've since put twin 4" pipes and same muffler. It's quite liveable now, though not really quiet. Just don't get the drone of the big pipe. To each his own, but just giving you what I went thru. I made up duplicate brackets to mimic the passenger side. Just mirrored it over and bolted it on like the passenger side. Looks "factory". The only catch was I had to put a 40 gal passenger tank on the drivers side to make room for pipe. If you go with R model type brackets you might be able to get around that issue. I could get you some pics of what I did if you like. I made my own "Y" pipe.
  6. I'm no expert, but I'd say it's a Cummins? Or did someone paint it wrong?
  7. Simply AWESOME Jeff!!! Looks great(like you didn't know that already LOL!). Like the others mentioned, it looks 1964 all over again. I'd like to find a short drop and a D2/D4 or such to go play in the dirt with the guys. Those equipment shows are cool! Are you planning on going to Bowling Green, Ohio this year? I should be there.
  8. If is sounds too good to be true.........most likely it is.
  9. Well, the story starts back many, many years ago. I always wanted to drive truck, but just never got the opportunity so the next best thing was get a toy. My B was owned by General Towing in Canton, Ohio for many years of it's life. Mostly driven by the two owners and used to pull trailers back from wrecks. I watched this truck sit in the lot, hardly used much anymore and said "someday I'll own something like that". In the summer of '01 the bug really hit and I wanted to see if I could purchase the truck. I walked into the shop and asked the owner. He agreed, finally that he'd let it go. I got the truck and LOTS of spare parts that he'd acquired over 25 yrs of owning a fleet of B's. The truck was a basic good runner, but needed attention from sitting and being neglected. The basic driveline is all original and purrs like a kitten, uses no oil runs down the highway pretty nice. I've done basic upgrades since like: new sheetmetal floor, bumper, painted fenders, king pins, brake chambers, air/fuel lines, rebuilt compressor, 12v starter conversion, radial tires. There's still lots to do and as time and money come I'll continue. I'd love to make it perfect, but then I wouldn't want to use it so it'll likely be a driver more than a nut/bolt restoration. I"ve used it for the last 4 yrs to pull my race car trailer all over Ohio and the surrounding states: KY, IN, NY. I've been working on the previous owner for some "action" shots from years gone by. He's been promising me pictures, but haven't received them yet. I'd like to make a scrap book. The attached picture shows the truck as it was the week after I bought it and was showing it to friends at lunch. The story will continue................
  10. Cruise?? I thought that was what that "locking" throttle(deadman throttle) was?? LOL!!! Works for me. Since it barely goes over the speed limit I just pull it out full and go. I don't use it often, but a couple long trips it gives the ol foot a rest.
  11. Shoot guys...Im just north yonder in Canton. I have friend in Delroy. Used to go to the DDI (Delroy Drive In) years ago.
  12. Reminds me of when Mythbusters blew up a Mack mixer. Why not something not worth anything? I guess this just proves a point that some people DON'T get. It takes a destruction test or alot of dynamite to destroy a Mack?....so that it CAN'T survive or be repair and reused. They want to use something that is tough enough to prove the durability of what they are testing. Anything else would fall apart before the test LOL!
  13. I've run my ol 673 for 6-7 hrs on the floor! I would assume a gasser would be the same. They set it so that it can't hurt itself.
  14. You need to check the numbers on the tranny to see if it's a DIRECT or OD Duplex. If it's a direct...I could see it not barely running low 50's. You need to confirm speed with another vehicle. My single OD Triplex, 4.62 gears, 22" rubber will run ~65mph. Take the OD off and you get about 52 mph.
  15. Yup, have the same issues at local mack dealer here. I used to have connections, but when they got bought out everyone left and now they won't even try to find an air fitting if you ask. Simply disgusting. I found another dealer(R&R Mack) to deal with and he seems pretty interested in helping...even though it's for a 48 yr old Mack!
  16. It boils down to how bad you want it and how bad he wants to sell it. Depending on what part of the country you are standing it will dictate the price. It's very hard to say "It's worth XX dollars". Finding a good cab will be more of an issue, IF you can't fix what you have. How complete is everything else? It sounds like it's a under a $1000 type truck. Like Bmoto mentioned....you have to want to throw money away cause if you put alot into restoring it, you likely won't get it back. It is very hard to anyway. Even worse if you have to pay others to do any of the work. I had $2500 in my B, but it was a pretty roadworth piece, lacking decent tires.
  17. I don't have any pics myself, but I had my B in the Stow/Kent 4th parade. I led the pack for NEO chapter of ATHS with our banner hanging from my front bumper. The rain held off, though we did get a couple sprinkles before. Had a great time! I lost track of the times the ol guys were pointing and waving! The ol air horn got it's fair share of use too.
  18. Repetitive ratio's Using 4th in lo, direct and Hi, then going to 5th lo, direct would be a repeat in gears since 5th is actually OD and using lo and direct would repeat 4th direct and over. Maybe not exactly, but close enough that Mack just tells you not to. Hope this was clear enough.
  19. Thanks Art.
  20. I usually put 3 gal in the filter housing and 3 in the pan. Been that way for 5 yrs now. I tried "bleeding" the filter once to see if that made any difference in start up. Not really. Mine usually takes about 7-10 secs to read any oil pressure on intial start up(after a weeks time). You should have 60 cold idle, around 20 hot idle, and 50-60 running down the road.
  21. I would think you could have a fab shop make you some up. Maybe out of stainless?? Oh...that would be pretty. Roll the ends, install the t-bolts and weld the loop shut. Oh, the possibilities? I think I have some used ones left out back on some frame brackets. If you don't have any luck let me know and I'll take a look.
  22. I'm in search of a new/used/better tranny gear for my speedo. I need the internal part(shaft with 13 tooth gear). I'm not sure how common this is? My speedo reads like 8 mph slow, so would putting a 11 tooth gear in tranny be enough to speed it up? Is this a common part? BTW, my gear is chipped and non-functioning right now. Anyone got pieces from there triplex laying around? Or is this still an available part Barry?
