  1. A Mack motor in a GM would be no worse than a fire truck WITHOUT a Detroit! I think that the General would have some kind of organ rejection thing going on, though. Tim
  2. You should fashion a funnel from the air box to the crankcase, kinda like a self fulfilling prophecy. Tim
  3. Rowdy, if you have a tin pan, put a speaker magnet on it to catch any loose steel still floating around, cast aluminum oil pan you could epoxy a smaller one to the drain plug to hold the bits. Tim
  4. A battleship in the middle of town and a monkey riding a bicycle, what else could you ask for?! Great pics! Tim
  5. Hey, at least my shop floor concrete will never rust. Tim
  6. Wow, I haven't seen that level of restoration detail in anything but a Corvette, L79 Nova or SS Chevelle! I used to help out at a shop doing frame-off restos in the early 90's and I really don't miss all of that work! I'll bet there's a beach worth of sand outside of your shop from sandblasting all of the springs, bolts, ect. Keep up the awesome work! Tim
  7. Bayonne Police are in a '41 Cadillac, lots of revenue "sharing"? The kid with the grenade kreeps me the heck out, anyone else?
  8. I'm glad that my iPad doesn't have a smellovision option Tim
  9. Ahhhhh, another Detroit disciple is born!!! FWD eat your heart out! Lighting up your first diesel of any kind is really cool, kind of breaking into uncharted territory. Ben's video with his 8V71 first start is evidence of that(although he thinks that he's an old salt at it!). Fuel and air is all a Detroit needs, did you check the air cleaner for nests prior to starting? I'd hate to see the inlet side of the turbo clogged with schmutz. Good luck and see you at Macungie, Tim
  10. Ohio is so flat and grid-like that it's almost boring! Unless you go to Carrollton, from Youngstown, then it kind of sucks. Ben and I went to Carlisle on Friday and it was cool. We bought a few really cool things. Tim
  11. Marvin Martian is an awesome touch!
  12. Is that made of mashed potatoes? Close Encounters Of The Third Kind?
  13. The U bolt fail reminds me of American Graffiti cop car Ford. Maybe some drunken kids had something to do with it. I couldn't see the blower on the boat, is it on the other side of the engine? Tim
  14. As a flooring retailer, people haul their do it yourself in the most awesome vehicles. Tile in foreign sedans is the most common. My favorite story is as follows; nice woman buys a piece of sheet vinyl 12 X 12 or so and comes to pick it up in her Honda minivan. My store manager helps her load it, across the seats and on the dashboard. Barb says "you should angle the roll so you can close the hatch". Customer says"it'll be fine" and proceeds to slam the hatch until it catches. She thanks Barb for the help and they both walk around to the front of the Honda to see the windshield smashed from the inside where the roll was hitting it! Thank goodness that I didn't have to pay for that one. Another favorite is the guys that have big manly foreign pickups that can "haul anything"! I've put 1500# pallets of tile in them and laid them on the stops. I thought the back would NEVER stop dropping! The looks on their faces is priceless. My 1 ton GM vans handle 3500# pallets with no problems, maybe leave the heavy stuff to the pros! Tim
  15. Thanks guys! The awful sound when I let off the throttle is the transmission. The previous owner started tearing the tranny apart and never finished. The gearset inside is just kinda laying there and I think it's the torque converter making the noise since all the fluid ran out of it. But as far as the motor itself, everything is fine Ben
  16. After staring at it longingly for 5 long, long years, I have finally had the great priveledge to operate such a fine pice of machinery as my wonderful 8V71N Detroit Diesel Ben
  17. That first pic of the model A on the scale brought a tear to my eye, I'm sure the crusher paid them something like three dollars or so for that thing. Dang. The lumber truck pic reminded me of the time that I got a scrap box truck for $200. I winched it up on the bed of my rollback with no problem, however, when I tried to set the bed down onto the truck , it seemed that the hydraulics weren't working well and the bed didn't tilt. I looked forward to see if there was a leak or some other malfeasance, and saw the front wheels three feet off of the ground! I had to cut the box off of it to haul it. I love old pics, there is an old guy at Carlisle that sells pics like that for five to ten bucks 8 X 10. Tim
  18. Was that a Rolls Wrecker pulling a bus?!! That thing is awesome, I'd trade my B61 for that in a second! Tim
  19. That had better be a green leaker (or silver 92!) in that black General! That thing is bad ass for sure! Those are the first black fire trucks that I've seen. Grapeville, Pa also has purple trucks, near Hempfield. Tim
  20. Wow! That's a pretty sweet truck! That is one of the wierdest trannies I've ever seen. It's pretty neat though Ben
  21. Aww man, I gotta get me some used socks! Ben
  22. Any more info on the swap meet? Car show too? Good junk or just Chinese tool vendors? Tim
  23. Happy belated birthday! Hope that the Visa works out, maybe us at BMT could put in a good word for you. Maybe not, I don't think we would make good character witnesses Anyway, Macungie is in June, hopefully we'll see you there some year. Tim
  24. OD, my shop is 2 1/2 miles north of 22 on route 66. Next time you're going to be out this way, give us a shout and we'll meet up! Tim
