  1. better check and see what a real DUPLEX is. i think you're getting your two sticks mixed up.
  2. hey freighttrain. they were called steering wheel brakes. when i'd get finished from a run with the b model there'd be a nice black line on my t-shirt where the wheel rubbed all night. guees we had steering wheel brakes long before engine brakes. j.j.

  5. in the "good ol' days" there was many a left arm bruised or broken from going through the wheel and that's first hand. one night a 1952 DC99 A-CAR bit me pretty hard. BUT THAT'S WHAT I GOT FOR DRIVING AN AUTOCAR!

  10. hook your puffer valve back up and make sure you have air going to it with the spring brakes released. check to make sure the right number of shims (mearured in .000ths) are on the stem of the puffer where it screws into the pump. also make sure relay valve is working right. those E-9s had plenty of power with everything hooked up and you'll run cooler pulling a long grade with a lot less smoke.j.j.
  11. the dynotard didn't work as good as a jake in my old 350/12 speed but if you used your head and all the gears you could, i never had any complaints. when i started driving engine brakes were unheard of in the northeast so anything was a big help. today some guys won't get in a truck unless it has the "famed" jake brake. j.j.

  13. sully. it was no big deal at all. when i took my old filter housing off i found that that the feed and return ports in the block were already tapped. the feed is 1/2 inch pipe thread and the return is 1/8 inch pipe thread. find a place to mount the spin on,get some lines made up and your in business. the spin on housing and filter are about a foot tall. that's what you'll need for room. it's a good size oil filter so it'll get the job done. any more questions feel free to ask. j.j.

  15. kelly hardwood from pittsfield,ma. had about a dozen R-700's with 318's and 15sp. r.r.'s in them. they wore them out and went to 325 mack v-8's i think all but a couple of those blew up so they sold off that fleet and went back to the 8v 92's in the 700's
  16. you're right about the early 707 superdog but i don't remember the years. in 1938 they came out with the 611 cu.in. overhead six cyl. and i belive around 1940 mack came out with the 707. j.j.
  17. there's not a doubt that that old dog will out pull that pussy cat in that "rattle car", i mean peter car. as i've said before the only thing that went by my ol' black cabover was a better runnin' E-9. and that was on I-81 from the TN./VA. border to the new york state thruway.

  19. hi sully. didn't get a chance to put on my oil filter conversion but here are CARQUEST'S numbers. the filter housing is no. 89750. the filter is 85749.(both carquest) .on my 707A the old filter housing is on the drivers side and is held on by( 3 )1/2 inch bolts. once you take the old housing off there is a feed port and a return port in the block. both of these are tapped for fittings. your 707 is probably a B or a C being newer. it may be the same as my A. let me know how you make out. good luck. j.j.
  20. hi sully. if those filters won't work i just got my spin on kit from carquest. it looks like it will work fine and i'll always have a filter source. it's a kit that replaces earlier luber-finder. plan to install it this weekend. i'll send you part numbers later. j.j.
