1948 EQT...I think!

Hello everyone. Thanks for allowing me to join your forums.   I recently purchased what I think is a 1948 EQT .  My plan is to make this a daily driver by moving the cab over to a dodge 3500 chassis with cummins 12v.  Weather isn't ideal and work will be slow.  Im certain I will have many questions along the way and hope you follow along with the progress. Up front suggestions and tips would be much appreciated from folks who already been down this road..

Yeah, from the photos, it looks like he’s got a lot there to work with clean sheet metal is always a plus can’t really tell by the photos… bob

If you could at least offer the leftover parts for sale here, it might help to keep another old Mack running and that would be a good thing.

Too all.  The entire chassis will be available late next month (March 2026)..  If anyone has a line on where to have new replacement glass cut I'd be super appreciative of the tip..

My plan is to do a complete modified restoration of the interior and clear the outer.  Lift the dodge chassis to accommodate 22.5 wheels and fab a box bed...

by "the book" the EQ made from '37- -'50  your in the right area with a '48. the EQ has one heavy drive train. EQ production shows 10,661 units. not a low produce number , but that is all EQ ..the EQT it self could be lower numbers

Welcome to the group and that's definitely an interesting find you located!

Congrats on the purchase!

I'm personaly one of those folks who see no other way of fixing an old rig than restoring it to the original condition but now that's your own truck so your plan, your desire and your elbow grease and pay checks

What I would advice is to not start with tearing everything apart but first throughly plan the upcoming actions and than start working with limited amount of certain parts. For example fix the doors than start arranging interior parts. Without disturbing chassis and even not removing the cab. You may also overhaul the pick-up along the components which will stay in place.

It happens in many cases that you run out of budget or interest and than unfinished project goes on a back burner or even to scrap. I definitely wish you another perspective and hope to see the end result posted on the forum some day. But planning shedule and divide it to separate steps you could stop at any or correct plans never hurts.

if ever there was positive constructive advice given ; don't think it could have been delivered better. in this particular situation , the EQT it self is an unusual vehicle. I had two '49 E series Macks; one a EE and a EF; more common of the E series. believe the EQ was heaviest of the E's. have seen a number of "mini macks " made taking a Mack cab installing on a pick up chassis.  following ALL the previous suggestions by Vlad ;; best of luck and keep the BMT crew updated when possible. a EQT pick up mini will definitely be in a class of it's own. Welcome to BMT..  Personally I am an "Old Fart" who likes to keep things original, BUT I admire someone who is willing to take on a project like your thoughts are leaning toward.. Please send your serial number to the Mack museum and get the history of this truck first. If Mech's numbers are any where near right, this truck as is may be more valuable the you think and maybe you can find another more common truck for your project.

There should be a plate inside the passenger door, either on the door jam or near the seat.. Also it should be stamped in the right side frame rail near the steering axle rear spring hanger. There are others on here that may be able to get you closer. The first letters and numbers will be the model number, followed by a 5 or 6 digit number.
