the shaft is install backwards  to what I'm use to???

Looks like there are two of them. One portion with inner splines resides on the end of steering column where it normally is. And the similar #2 attached to the steering gear U-joint. Possibly shortened to a certain desired length judging by a seam (?) near its middle.

If all is that way it turns out the central portion of the shaft can travel front-back having splines at the both ends. No?

Brocky I was stunned to observe that Brockway cab, although at first gland is a R model Mack cab, it really is very different

The cowls different, the roof is different and the list of things I noticed different in a few minutes was quite a bit

Sure is a good looking truck and thanks for the photo above

Both the Mack R model and the Brockway 700 series cabs were built by Sheller Globe in Ohio. I have been told the major difference in the cowls was because Mack used a tilt hood and Brockway was still using a butterfly hood.

This begs the question: What cowl did Mack use on the Hardnose / Flintstone Models, built before the Brockway cab was built????? Is the Brockway cab a Flintstone cab???

Brocky

The roof vent is all different and a lot of the Mack cabs had two little bent up cowl/air deflectors between the clearance lights in the center of the cab

I'm guessing there's a few more modifications than we know about to the Mack cab

A bit more on how the orange Brockway ended up out here
