Yes, I lost a whole weeks worth of time to get it done and that is a lot of time!!

I stopped at hydraulic store today(not Parker) and started on power steering lines.  Had to order a fitting for suction side (5days Ugh).  I had them make one line, I have to measure up for the other two lines.

Getting close, but still so far to go.

Success!!

I did make a dump truck clutch!!  Two fingers is all it takes to depress the pedal.

It is far from complete but it does function.  Few more things to machine but a HUGE milestone.

I got the floor reinforcement brace across the floor bolted in so I can now cut the removable panel for the new shifter and get the floor installed.

I'm taking Friday off so I can get the last two power steering hoses made and installed and it gives me another full day to work on it.

Ya, I spend all day at work trying to figure out what I can get down that evening.  One week to go.  I need to be able to swap cars around and be ready in 9 days.

IT MOVES!!!!!

I installed the new pump(another story) and got it running.  I was able to air it up, release the brakes and was able to push the clutch and easily slip it in gear and slowing inch the truck forward(can't go far).  I pushed back down on the clutch and slipped in reverse and backed it up.  Nice!!!!

I released in neutral a few times and pushed down fully and was able to slip it in gear without any clash.  I did it numerous times in forward and reverse.

I then pulled the linkage all off, drilled the pivot bar for a cotter pin to capture the Z bar.  I installed the grease zerk in the bar and put a couple clicks of grease in it and spun it around a few times to work the grease into the bushing.  I then bolted it in for the last time and attached the clutch rod to the transmission.

Now I need to recut the keyway in the pedal pivot rod and finish the machine work.  Install pinch bolt detail and then split the ring.  I need to install the bracket for the return spring.  I am pretty sure I can modify the original bracket and weld it to my new arm to enable the stock spring to be used.

 

Not onto the new pump.  Ugh.  I installed it and the given primer pump didn't work(ya, I knew that was coming).  I installed the old bailing ring pump from my 237.  It still had issues getting fuel up.  I still have the pressure gauge installed in the fuel filter housing to watch.  I finally got it primed and engine as started.  The 20# I pumped up slowly dropped off like before.  I pumped it while running and it went back up to 20#.  Then slowly dropped again.

I removed the return check valve assembly and investigated it.  Nothing wrong I could see.  Sealing surfaces were fine.

I thought maybe I could shim it up.  I had some .010 shim stock and cut a piece and put it back together.  I could pump 30# now.  After starting it would again just slowly drop off.  Less of you didn't rev the engine.  It would idle for as long as you wanted.  I did finally get some heat in the engine and topped off the radiator.

Tomorrow, after getting the other power steering lines made I am going to make a short fuel line and run it off a can and see if it keeps pressure.  If not I am not really sure what to do next.

I tested the Jakes, they work.

After I get the clutch parts in for good, I can put the floorboard back in so I can tidy up the interior and keep moving forward on the front end.

When I installed the newer engine in my B I found a jake setup and I hardly use the brakes for stopping my truck weigh's 12,000 you probably won't get the same action towing your trailer I always thought jakes should be standard on truck engines in class 8 trucks. I was thinking of you when I had to disassemble the three-jaw chuck off my Monarch lathe I had to stone the slot for one jaw works like new now I bought it new about 20 years ago

i have been a believer in engine brakes since i got the new 85 dm800.

i almost never use brakes, even when loaded. i can bring 80,000 lbs to 15 mph with just the engine brake then use the foot brake for the final stop. my last mack still had the same brake shoes on it with 265,000 miles when we sold it. same with the Kenworths. the T800 had 320,000 miles on it and the original shoes were still good, but we changed them when replacing the "S" cam rollers before selling it.

I had the Jakes on the 237,  just transferred everything.  With the clutch pedal arm out of location yet I had to reach under the cab to make them work.

As for fuel issue, I think I have a fitting on the pump inlet that isn't sealing well.  The original fitting was cross threaded on the hose side so I found another one but the seal angle is not perfect and I think that is my pressure problem.  I stopped at hydraulic store to get last couple lines made for steering and they didn't have what I needed.  Had to order it along with my other steering fitting.  Time will tell if that is the problem.

Today's plan is get the clutch linkage completed.

Ya, I regret to inform everyone that I'm stupid.  😆 

All this BS dealing with getting a new pump, finding out it is tapped for banjo fittings, not NPT.  Still having issues keeping fuel pressure, hard time priming, etc,etc,etc.  It was the fitting on the inlet for the pump.  Back story, original fitting was cross threaded but was good enough to fire it up before installation.  After having issues again with priming I found an old fitting but the taper was "damaged, sorta.  Tapped with a small hammer is my definition.  It worked okay, I thought.

I thought it was just the pump, ordered another one.  Wrong fittings.  I had to order some to try to get it to work, but that is mid next week. 

I am out today working on it again.  Block heater is leaking(fk me).  It is behind the starter and oil filter housing.  No way to get to it without major undertaking.  I googled crows feet(have a set of under 1") found a set 1"-2" on Amazon for $60 and can have them today(Sunday).  They showed up and was able to unscrew the block heater and remove it.  Yup, small gasket inside had torn and was leaking.  Screw that, I am just getting a plug tomorrow as I don't have a need for a block heater.

Into the pump, I thrashed through my junk and found a fitting!!!!!!  I installed it on the old pump, installed pump, and instantly pumped up 20# in a couple pushes.  That's the way it should be!  I fired it up and it sat at 25# and when reving it would go up!!  Yes!!!  It's fixed.  I had put a .010 shim in the relief valve so I removed it and it now is back to 20# and wiggles around that area when reving it.

I finished up the clutch linkage yesterday and got it painted and installed for good.  Works too easy!!!  I got the floor put back in, just need to cut a patch for the old Triplex opening.

Sum bitch this just might come together for next weekend?  Just waiting on one fitting for power steering 1" suction line.  All other lines are installed and is ready for fluid.

I was running all over town trying to find a fitting for my Kubota, until "light dawned over Marblehead" that it was BSPP (British Standard Parallel Pipe). Never occurred to me it would be British, but should have because the Japanese use the British 1/8 x 28 taper pipe for oil pressure indicator port.
