Superliner RW700 Steering axle

Although I unloaded at -30F in Montana, the coldest I have worked was on US Steel coke battery in Gary, In. It was -20 or so, and the burning coal (coke) gets pushed in rail cars then quenched with water. One sec blasted with heat, the next steam turning to frost. The wind blows right off the lake. Set down a tool and it freezes to whatever you set it on. I made the repair and got out of there ASAP. Cloths got frozen,hard to move. The heat never lingered long enough to help, and the cold stuck around.

Cold sucks I’m sorry I left LA. We’re its summer all year. I am not certain but I think we have mothers over here. I usually use McGuire‘s. Our new finish.

It did get warm enough to get the Superliner out and wash the dust off. Here’s a question my Grandson asked, we took it for a ride and when he closed the door from inside he asked what you pulled it closed with,,, the door handle? I said yes. He then asked why our 359 Pete has a pull handle and a Mack does not? Any suggestions on how to answer a curious 10 year old,lol .

The MBs had a small piece of flat stock screwed to the top of the door panel. lt wasn't very big just enough to get your fingers behind it to close the door or help getting in or out. l think drivers removed them so you wouldn't hit your elbow while turning the steering wheel. Look at the far side and you can see it just over the shifter knob

Our Cruiseliner has inside door handles.Theyre are a bit lower and behind the window winders....Couldnt be an optional extra....could they????

I don’t remember I do remember on my cruise liner. I had to slam the shit out of the door to get it to latch  most times I had to roll down the window. And push it from the outside I don’t remember pullstraps

I'm glad you said it first. As many times as I've been in and out of any of them with that style door ????  I can't remember how I closed them if you had a gun to my head. Somehow I also feel like if I had to get in one now I'd never give it a second thought either. Just get in and go.  Funny thing......I realize reading this ,a long time ago I was the inquisitive ten year old.

lol well I got out of a RS model to get into the cruise liner and the doors close like  a dream in the R cab night and day difference as far as getting up into a cruise liner at 69. I’m not sure it would be so easy.

I always used the door handle, probably why all I  ever saw was floppy . So our after school project today , take the inside pull handle off a parts truck 359 we have ,( same handle as on the side cowl of the Superliner) . Clean them up, take a trip to Ace Hardware, purchase 8 one inch counter sunk screws, ( they won’t hit anything in the window mechanism) . Swing through McDs for chicken nuggets for my helper, back to the shop, measure armrests and position handles where they don’t hit your elbow, screw in place, Done! Thank You Brocky , I’ll tell him in the morning that you approved!  I’ve had him helping on a Monte Carlo SS project in the basement on cold evenings.

I have the same door handles inside my DM but they’re located over the door hinges to pull yourself up into the cab they came off of a UPS cab over. I don’t know if that’s a  UPS safety thing or a F model cabover thing they work well, especially on a passenger side .. Bob

I don’t think I ever saw them located where they are on your DM , that must have been a popular handle back in the day.

Yes the handle on the outside left ,, looks to be the same one

As I mentioned, it makes it way easier to climb up inside, especially the passenger side… bob
