Yes , I was under the assumption that the Australian Road Train Trucks were some of the toughest trucks in the world, especially the loads that are hauled and the dirt roads, Crossing rivers,, a lot more difficult than rolling down I40 with 80.000 most of the time. I assume it does take the stress off the main steering gear and frame mount, twisting in a tight spot but there are a LOT of Heavy Haulers with only one box .

I’m up for suggestions on polishing the Heard Guard and putting it back on when I get done or finding the big bumper it would have come with, we have had this truck almost 10 years, My Son has used it, That is the first time that guard has been removed. It’s a RW 753 Truck

I just polished my own bull bar my self

Came up okay, needs another polish

I spent days welding and grinding all the bolt and rivit holes

Of course every cock sucker without a truck told me they could still see imperfections

Wankers are everywhere ha ha I

wonder are the roads a lot windier (dunno if that's the right spelling or not) than Australia

Paul, NOT really!!! The road our bus took up from Cairns to the Tablelands were very similar to the American ones up into our eastern Appalachian mountains.. The sign said something like a 100 bends (curves) switchbacks in the next 20 KM.. We gained about 2000 feet of altitude at the same time.

Yes I’ve ripped a couple power dividers and  2 transmissions trying to pull a piece of equipment up a 12-14% Grade , I’m sure there are worse places to truck, but 10% is about my limit, I’m too old to be laying under a truck at night working on it . Double steering boxes are worthless when the driveshaft hits the ground. Brocky knows how it is up in Highlands and Scaly Mt .

Back to the RE 753  Axle project, I found a 18,000 out of a 89 Superliner, dual steering like my 14,000 axle. It’s got hub pilots in it ,just what I wanted, One glitch,  The steering arms are upside down from mine, ( opposite taper ) . So the drag link joint will have to go down, Anyone see this, the truck it came from already had the springs removed, it was probably a big stack since it had the big axle.

I think the ones off my axle are smaller, it might be ok to loosen the joint and turn it down, you are probably right and it set a little higher between the frame and the axle, the parts truck still has the dual boxes on it ,but I didn’t remove the axle, and the springs were already gone. I’m just going to use one steering box .

They are,,,when I get a chance I’ll try to get one out and see if they can be swapped, I should have gotten the complete pitman arm and drag link off the parts truck,, it’s 4 hours away, I can get them to measure it if needed.

They can put up a fight coming out. The levers for the tie rod are the ones. They make the ackerman angles according to the wheelbase. Depending if they're different and how different, the truck may not behave ideally as far as steering. It'll end up oversteering or understeering , wanting to fight you on a wet road or something fun like that. OR ???  they may be the same thing as the truck needs IDK. There's some geometry engineered into those things.

I had thought about that also,, if the key way  will lineup,, it’s going to be a few days before I can get on it, My Grandson’s Baseball season is over and I promised him we would get away for a few days,,, but I’ll keep taking ideas!
