Gm Vs. Ford

I'm a Bow Tie Guy.

I guess cause my Dad was all through my childhood

And this just helps to reaffirm it

...so you are comparing a fiberglass Corvette with a metal Mustang. Let's see how they compare in a crash test. Trunk space? Back seat? But to pit the Corvette against a Mustang in a performance evaluation would be like putting the Silverado up against a Ranger to see which truck is better, and then limiting your evaluation to power, towing, & payload.

If you want a fair GM vs. Ford comparison, try Camero vs. Mustang....Silverado vs. F-Series....when the competition is kept to similar vehicles, Ford wins every time. :thumb:

I thought the new Mustangs were made out of fiberglass as well? Like Rob said they all have their strong and weak points. Fact of the matter is we can all agree they sure don't make trucks like they use to back in the 60's-90's. It's like the semi's of today, the ones of yester year would last forever but these new plastic contraptions are nothing but fleet throw away trucks. I've owned both a Ford and Chevy.

Ford: Strong point-300 cid straight 6 and the 5spd manual and the straight 6's were known to have a lot of low end torque, good fuel mileage, reliable. Weak point-Nothing I can think of

Chevy: Strong point-350 V8, reliable. Weak point-Alright/Horrible gas mileage(depends on how if I'm getting in it or not), not a manual.

All I've ever owned...and will own...are Chevy's (well, GM anyway).

Currently I've got an '05 regular cab with the Duramax/5-sp allison combo. Wife traded her Olds Alero+cash for an '04 Jeep Grand Cherokee a year ago. I like the Jeep and it works well as a family cruiser, it lacks power with the 4.slow 6cyl...like the commercial, shoulda got a V8.

Previously...88 Oldsmobile Cutlass (the last of the 'big' 2-door car), '84 Chevy 1-ton 454 w/4sp tranny, '96 Z28 Camaro w/a 6sp, '01 Silverado 2500HD 6.0/auto (still love that truck, shoulda kept it) and currently the '05 and a '95 Geo Prism for a commuter junker.

My biggest bitch about Ford and Dodge is that the interior doesn't hold a candle to Chevy's. If Ford had a better interior I would've given serious thought to a Superduty. Dodge...well, Dodge makes me think of Al Bundy.

And go ahead and call me a sally, but after shifting gears all day in the big truck, I sure as hell don't want to shift any more than down to "D" on my car or pickup at the end of the day.

Ever wonder how a blind person knows when to stop wiping?

I've got a Dodge 2500 w/ Cummins 'B' diesel.

6 speed trans.

22 miles per gallon highway.

I've grossed over 30,000lbs and crossed the U.S. that way.

Love that CUMMINS!!!!!!!!!!!!

My '42 'EE' Mack will have a mechanical Cummins when I get it done.

Will have a Mack Quad box behind.

My '95 GMC Jimmy is maybe the second best vehical I ever owned.

Good power, good milage, great comfort and still looks good.

And guys - - - I got my first auto in 1964

Worst????

Brand new 1971 Ford 250 with 360 cid.

See, now that's the exact opposite of what I've found. Dad had a 1997 Chevy Express...350, HD auto trans, 4.11 rears...van would flat out PULL. No complaints whatsoever in the power/towing departments....but he had that van at the shop every other week because another trim piece or interior panel cracked and fell out. The interior just wouldn't stay together, and in 2001, he traded it in for a Ford Ranger. My parents have NEVER kept a new car for less than 10 years up until that point...and the only USED car they bought and kept less time was the Pinto my dad bought cheap & used because he needed transportation to & from work.

I found cheap Chevy interiors to be the case in a Malibu I rented when I quit a job and needed to get home. Sure it was a rental, but the cheap plastic interior was falling apart more than it SHOULD have been seeing as how there was less than 2000 miles on the car. The fiance had a Malibu for a while, too, and had the same problem with it. I've NEVER had a problem with any Ford interiors, and my family has a LOT of experience with 'em. :idunno:

I have to agree with ya Roxdy They were comparing apple with oranges. They should have brought out one of Ford's comparable vehicles to put up against the Vette.

I think Ford did an awesome job at bringing back the retro Mustang look but they also brought it back with many of it's 60's and 70's faults, body role and fading brakes. I'm sure even Roush is shaking his head, why did we put larger rotos and bigger caliper on it, with that much hp.And that rear solid axle :pat:

I came from varied upbringings, so I only turned FOMOCO after I bought my own first truck(1970 F100). It was all downhill after that. I loved big 60's cars(any model), but since I turned blue blooded, I went with Galaxies.

They all have their good/bad points, but with proper care I've never had any issues with any of my vehicles. I've only purchased 3 new Fords('96 F350, 99 V10 F350, '00 PSD F350), and all were great vehicles and wished I could have kept them all.

Well i didn't start the GM v.s. Ford war :thumb:

Nothing wrong with Peter Paul n Kenny . . . :mack1: just dose it better :SMOKIE-LFT:

Ford builds a Fine machine . . . 1 out of every 250,000 :thumb: that's better then never getting it right

Another Example per your Request Double L:

built Ford tough

My 1983 Stang GL 5.8L MPI V8, C-4 trans 9" rear 3.73's v.s. My 1992 GTA 5.7 TBI V8 4L60E 3.73's . . .

Which is faster ? never got to find out went to the drag strip 3 time with them both.

STANG;

First go around the Stang twisted off the yoke on the 9" . . .

Second Go round Stang launched burned threw the 60' then the C-4 gernaded all over the track . . .

Third go around built trans built rear end hard launch just passed 1/8 mile trans started slipping n let go . . .

GTA:

Round 1 14.92@82mph.

Round 2 14.88@86mph.

Round 3 15.40@78mph blown motor.

Round 3 the GM blew up n still finished the race Rods hammering away

Them Rotten GM's eh ?

I've never bought a new vehicle. I was referring mainly to the early to mid-00's trucks with the interior comment. Plus, with a rental car...think "days of thunder". lol

I loooooooves me a GTA!!! I didnt have a GTA, but an 88 T/A with a 305 TPI..few little do-dads here and there, but man was that a fun car. Not only that I think that is one of the most handsome cars ever to leave detroit.

Honestly, GM in the mid to late 80's I think made some really cool stuff...The GTA, Grand National and the T-Type we're nice, the Monte Carlo SS..Olds Cutlass....hell I even like the Grand Prix from that era!

I forgot I had an '06 Grand Prix GXP for a short while. A 4-door Grand Prix with a 320hp V8 and 4sp auto in it. For a grocery getter that thing was retarded fast. Never found the top speed limiter on it and a front-wheel drive car just roachin the tires into 3rd gear is an odd sight.

After working as an auto tech for 15 years, I have come to the conclusion that all makes, domestic and foreign are ALL JUNK!! LOL! However my fleet of vehicles are all GM

I'm not partial any longer. People bust em up, I put em back together. Filth belching factories in China are producing the same parts in a different moulded cases to fit different vehicles, so don't really make much difference.
