  1. Why can't people just keep the truck that clean to begin with! I've gotten into ambulances that I had to wipe dust off the dash so I could see the mileage. Real fun when you turn on the defroster for the first time and a cloud of dirt flies up!
  2. Not yet. My garage isn't heated and I had to go to Cleveland today a pick up a free car . I've been working every day I can right now because the bank is breathing down my neck about a house payment. Being laid off and working part-time has put a hurtin on things .
  3. Rob, how many carbon credits do you go through when you start those trucks? Have you seen the recipe for the "bacon explosion" ?
  4. I wonder how many clutches and left front shock mounts he has broken! I wouldn't leave hot coffee on the dash!
  5. Is the truck a 24volt truck or is it a 12volt truck with a 24volt starter? The best way is to take the battery out and charge it. It takes time but you will see which battery is really needing charged. If you have a good battery and a so-so one, it will charge them both but the so-so one will create a load on the good one. As for the flashlight senerio, it needs 6volts to charge it. That is the system operating voltage. I bet it uses a 6volt bulb! The batteries are in a "series" setup. They act as one 6volt with more amps available.
  6. I heard that you HAD to go to a school now . I was told that about two months ago. No more get a packet, get seat time with someone, then test. Also heard about something with homeland security for proof of citizenship.
  7. Larry, what truck did you use to test? Do you know anything about the changes that took place on Jan 1st?
  8. Does anybody have video of Plum Crazy? She belonged to Leach trucking in Hartville, Ohio and it was strictly a full on pulling truck . Best was when he would throw a plate on it and drive into town . Loud, mean, and smoking ! I loved it! By the way it was a plum purple R model with straight pipes and a well massaged engine.
  9. Glad to have you. You are in the right place. It gets a little crazy but it's all good. Feel free to pick on Rob!!!
  10. Like Arnold said in the Terminater movie,"Don't doo daat!!"
  11. No, just a big wopp of sour cream!! Chased it with a half frozen Cherry Coke!
  12. I'm full now! Had Tater-tot casserole and Toll House cookies for dinner
  13. I will admit I don't know much about the compressor but did you look to see if the intake was clogged? You may also have a valve sticking or worn out. I know that the valves will carbon up and stick. Just some things to think about.
  14. I did not know that! Learn something new everyday! That's why I trust the people on this forum. The only BS here is the fun kind.
  15. I don't have a big torch set but I will try with the propane unit. I was concerned about the heat with the seals. Just not looking foward to removing drums on that rear-end if it goes wrong. Thanks for the advice.
  16. The DT466 is one of the best engines that IH ever built . It is probably 250 to 275 hp. They built millions of them and parts are easy to get. I drove a 24' box truck with a DT466 with a 5sp & 2sp rear. I drove 'er like a 7 speed . The "13 letter manure spreader" company did it right with that engine.
  17. Faith is registered as a classic and I run a "model year" plate on her. Tell them it is not a "for hire" truck and you are a private owner/collector. I hope that helps because I really didn't have any problems with my truck.
  18. I installed a replacement brake line and now I need to bleed her brakes. I got 3 of the 8 bleeders loose with DAYS of penetrating spray and very gentle pressure on a 6pt wrench. I tried tapping lightly on the bleeeders with a hammer to "help" the spray. I fear breaking one off and don't really want to open up that can o' worms. I've broken them on cars and pick-ups before and know that the wheel cylinder has to come out. I just want to prevent all that work over a $5.00 bleeder. Any advice please.
  19. Always good to get new members . When my lottery ticket hits I will see Austrailia . You are in your Summer and I have 12 inches of snow on the ground and we just finished a brutal cold snap with temps around -10 to -15 F. Welcom aboard!!
  20. My wife said that she was gonna get a tatoo and a Dodge tatoo so I would pay attention to her .
  21. Most fire trucks have an Allison in 'em. When I was on a department we had a tanker/pumper combo that weighed about 50,000 lbs. Detroit 8V92 with an Allison, WOW!!! You would pull onto the apron, wait for the door to close, look for traffic, then mash the stupid pedal to the floor, and watch the speedo CLIMB! Yes an engine brake works with the Allison. It will hold the current gear and lock the torque converter on till it slows enough to downshift.
  22. I would look for unusual holes in the roof or on the sides of the cowl. These would have been from lights. My A-30 had the holes for the roof light and spotlights. The cowl could have a light, siren, or both mounted. Also look underneath at the driveline. Does it look new? Like maybe they took out the gear box for the pump? Frame mods are not a good indicater unless you know what to look for. I love the little oil can on the firewall but not too crazy about that exhaust manifold.
  23. Yes a driveline can have a "harmonic" to it and you may not be able to do anything about other than all new stuff including shafts.
  24. Depending on what size you are looking for, some of the Craftsman air tools are made by IR and if you catch a sale they are very reasonable. I have an impact that is an IR 2131 1/2in drive but it has Craftsman decal on it and was $20 less than the IR, and I got it on a sale so it was a lot less. Just something to ponder. 450ft/lbs forward and 600ft/lbs in reverse. The real key to longevity with air tools is oil them on a regular basis.
