  1. If memory serves, the force to pull one ton of weight on rail, on level track is 10 pounds. You have to overcome very little rolling friction on tracks. That is what makes the railroad so efficient. You still need to pull it up hill and keep it from rolling down too fast but it's not like pulling on rubber. Alison transmissions are good stuff just the same. Mack ran them in the 60's in the real big trucks with 100,000+ ratings. Lots of persistent grunt to make stuff move.
  2. Yah that's what I was attempting to write. The yoke is welded to the side of the rod rather than screwed onto the end of it. It's to accommodate the apparent offset between the can centerline and the adjuster centerline...looks funky and might make an inspector nervous. Thanks
  3. Well that sucks! I can't believe fat a$$ nailed you for over six grand. So much for trying to make a freakin living. Ouch
  4. looks like some good advice. The cans on my 815 are spring brakes but the yokes are welded to the side of the rod sticking out of the shaft. It looks real tight between the frame and the wheels and the centers don't quite line up. I intend to find or make up something a little less crude. Can anyone say what the issue is and offer a solution? Thanks and glad to see another guy back in the fold. Greg
  5. Some nice JD's. We don't have that many G's in NH. WE run mostly B's and some A's. D's and G's are much less common here. I'd love to see them if you ever drag them out in the sunlight. Thanks for sharing. Greg
  6. That's what went down Bulldogboy. I remember looking at all of that shortly after the event. The ground floor of the houses were gone but the houses stood just the same. I didn't think they had found the woman's body but I guess they did. The dam was poorly made and not maintained. It was on private property and I'm not sure how the laws all work, but it was a shame as it was all preventable. It never should have happened. That was 18 years ago? Time flies when you're having fun.
  7. Make Bambie Burgers of course! Sucks to screw up the truck like that but shit happens. I think the dear population is going to get more and more out of control with time. Less guys hunt these days around here. I guess it will give the bear and coyote something to chew on...
  8. Looks great. I don't mind the white rims but grey is better I guess. Really love the view over the hood of a B model. Brings back memories. It's great to run it and work it. I plan to make mine nice enough to be proud but not too nice that I can't do stuff with it. Love it. Looks great. Wish I could pull mine together that fast! Greg
  9. Sent a note to the Mack Museum for the paperwork for the truck this morning. Can't wait to see what comes back. If I came up with an 864 to try to run, are there any parts available anywhere or is it 100% custom made to order if at all cause you can't buy it anywhere? I'm wondering if it is a major risk or not. Pushing the old girl would suck! Greg
  10. Lots of wishful thinking here! He should hold his price then scrap it for $1000.....How do people come up with prices like that? Are they selling to a different planet of something? I don't get it. Nice little truck (E model) for the right price and some tlc it would make a nice unit. Greg
  11. If I had an 864 I'd buy that pump!
  12. What is in the green and yellow fleet? Love to see pictures of those too. Love the 83! Those are rugged machines. Keep us posted on the projects with pics and all. Thanks Greg
  13. That Williams Bros mixer is really nice! I've never seen a Mack mixer that wasn't a B or R. What a nice looking truck. That would be one to have. Thanks for posting.
  14. Did some work yesterday. Tore the left front off, both doors, the air cleaner and the corner markers from the bumper. The floors look solid although they have plenty of man made holes to patch up. Once I have stuff all apart I will start blasting and prepping for paint. I suspected but am sure it was orange from the factory. I kind of like that as it will not be yet another red or green Mack. Tanks and radiator to be black I think. I need to write to the museum for the info on it still...guess now is a good time. It's kind of a pain that they used nuts and bolts rather than captured nuts. They must have assembled them in teams as one guy can do both ends. I think I have to pull the heater box to get the air cleaner bracket off...Oh well. Hey is the that an oil cooer in the picture of the engine? The hoses out to the housing by the drivers door are hard as rocks. Is that an oil filter housing? if so what goes in it? I plan to replace the hoses. what do we think of orange? Thanks Greg
  15. Good stuff as always. Nice shot of you and the Mrs. Hardly recognize you without the hat... Thanks for taking the time. It's always entertaining to see the world through your windows. Greg
  16. Well maybe the one in the LS is a B then as it is set up with intake and exhaust on the same side and plugs on both sides but it has a big Zenith downdraft carb on it. The C has a downdraft carb with all twelve plugs on the same side and the intake and exhaust are opposite sides. I bought the C for its pistons and sleeved the A or B or whatever it is...The center section on the C exhaust manifold has a crack but I think it would be serviceable as it showed no signs of leaking...I don't think it's right for a B as the earlier engines had a hot intake and the C doesn't . I'll see what I can dig up. Greg
  17. http://worcester.craigslist.org/hvo/4092076278.html There has been one for sale in Woburn Mass forever but I don't see it here now. This is all I could find in a quick search. Good luck
  18. I think it is a tactic. Start em high and negotiate a good price with some concessions. I'll poke around and see if he has any loose stuff. The trucks are in the big hut out of the weather but not heated. We'll see what he says. I have an almost whole 707C. I've never seen a B so I'm not sure if it's more A than C or what...what do you need?
  19. Hey don't be afraid to write some of those stories down and post them in here. That is great stuff and I know I'd love to read some stories about the truck and what was done around it. That's just as good as pictures! You should keep copies with the book from Mack once you get it. Don't forget to send off to the museum if you haven't already. Welcome and share the experience. Thanks Greg
  20. I'll get there early next week Yarnall. I guess we all have to move on with the C125. It's not like we have a choice now. I'll dig up the info and try to get some info on asking prices etc. I guess the gent is a tad eccentric and certainly not in need of money. I'll do my best to find things out. It may take some persistence to get anywhere but we don't want any more old iron getting turned into toasters. Stay tuned. Greg
  21. As of today it sounds like the ALF is sold. The LS is priced at $12-$13 today (ouch) and no price given for the B95 sedan cab yet but he's thinking about it. I'm going to try to stop in next week and I'll post whatever new information I can get. He says that the interest in the trucks has dried up. I'm guessing it is price related but that is how things go. If anybody has any questions or prices to ask about I'm happy to do so if he's around. It bugs me to no end that he junked that C125 so I'm hoping to help make some deals to save the rest of it...I've got too many already so I'd have to live in the next one if the Mrs. found out. Happy to help so let me know. Greg
  22. What the hell does the look on his face mean? Is this guy for real? I'm embarased for the whole country just looking at that! Unbelieveable
  23. Hey, how much % native american do you have to be to be a native american (Did you see I was "PC" there??). I'm over 12.5%! Do I qualify? I'm looking for an edge here...gotta get some money flowing toward me instead of away all the time.
  24. Not a bridge engineer but I'd say as long as the fingers are engaged and alligned you are good. If they go tip to tip, I'd call the news guys to take a look...that will get the state's notice if it makes the news. Obamamama...that's funny...
