  1. Not that I would but remind me to never take anything from that guy...there isn't a whole bunch more you can do to a guy once he has met his maker. What a turd he is (was) to take stuff from a guy nice enough to let you have or buy some part you need. Karma indeed.

  3. The black and blue 6x6 looks cool. I'm guessing the boat was anchored to a Soviet sub lurking in the bottom of that water. That thing didn't want to budge one inch!!! I say off to Siberia with the guy in charge for being a dope. One would think that running some extra cable back to the trailer or maybe figure out what the sucker is hung up on might have been a passing thought. A big boulder or a piece of ledge might have been in front of a trailer tire...might have been worth a second look....No?

  6. Sounds like he needs a set of custom pistons and he will be in business. I'm guessing about $2500 unless a stock oversized set or a suitable substitute can be located. I'd grab it if I had some cash and a bride willing to let me clutter the door yard a little more...I'm working on how I can grab another truck that came to my attention....this is a disease.
  7. Looks like someone punched her in the nose and broke it so it healed crooked. Is that the bumper or the nose or both? Still not a bad looking truck all things considered. It looks kinda tough.

  10. Like that a lot. I like that it has a B model air cleaner rather than an R like so many do these days. I hope to track down a correct one some day. Mine needs work on the fenders inner and outer and about anything other than the hood which is solid but bent down from standing on it. Enjoy. Greg
  11. If it aint broke don't fix it. Run the one you have unless it's puking oil or something. That drive line should be just fine. I doubt the mileage will be that much different unless you are driving the crap out of it, it will not save you much. I didn't know cab structure changed relative to 6's vs V8's. I've got an E6 turbo (250 I'm told) in mine and it fits fine. If I could come with a good 864/865 to trade the E6 for it I'd change it out but the V8 is kind of special for the 815. Otherwise I'm planning to run it as is. Good luck Greg
  12. It's hard to see but I think the axle bearing caps have 8 bolts and I think that means 55000 rears. I'd guess it is about 30,000# for the sake of arguement, particularly if it has a double frame. Don't hold me to it though. Good luck.
  13. These are two of mine. 1940 Dodge and 1948 Brockway. I grew up with a 48 Brockway around. It was a beast with a eontinental engine which if memory serves was a 572 in line six. I also love the 40 Dodge as it just looks cool and I've got my eye one one locally. If I get real lucky, some day it will be mine.
  14. Steelman, You clearly have an issue. I think seven units is the give away. I encourage you to embrace it. Just don't let them rot into the ground is all. Preserve and maintain those special pieces. Post lots of pictures too. Love it. Good luck Greg
  15. I love the E models and that one looks like it has some potential. I'm less than 10 minutes from Nashua. It's too bad for the drivers there. Hope they land on their feet. Greg
  16. A soda blaster from Eastwood.com will take the paint off without impacting the metal. You can polish it out from there. Special care must be taken when repainting after using a soda blaster. The high pH of the soda gives etching primer (low pH) a hard time and paint failure can result. Greg
  17. Awesome looking truck.. I don't think you see them with that long hood and nose too often. It looks tough. The time to buy something special is when you see it. Thanks for sharing the picture. Greg

I was told to shift it at 1500 and no more as that is what a Mack likes...I do know that winding it tight gets me nowhere and it goes better at the lower rpms...I still like the quatraplex better...I guess I just need to spend the seat time and figure it out. Oh on more thing...no clutch after its rolling.
  19. If I had to pay a guy to do the work necessary to get the 815 from current condition to that condition it would be all of 50K. And the 815 is in running driving condition. The biggest problems are sheet metal repairs and the prep work to paint all of it. Otherwise it is a solid truck. So, as stated above, the $50 is a big bight but if what has already done is worth the price and you cannot do the work yourself, then its a deal. Bear in mind you need a serious space to tear one down and a bunch of wheaties to lift all that stuff up and down a bunch of times. Doing it alone will take several years as well. It's a big job. If I had the money and a place to park it, I'd grab that up in a hurry. Keep us posted. I wonder what the rear end is geared at? I've got 7.49 : 1. No speeding tickets in my future except on the slow slow slow roads. Greg
  20. We have an 8LL in the roll off with an E7-427. The 8LL has issues where 3rd/7th pops out of gear unless you brace yourself against the lever. I'm guessing it is a detent failure as it is otherwise quiet and shifts ok. I found a guy with a good used "10 speed maxitorque" transmission for sale at a good price. One thought was to swap in the 10 speed and save the rebuild expense. The other idea was to skip 3rd and 7th and drive it. The truck is kind of critical to the operation so having it quit would be bad. Would the two transmissions be interchangeable without shortening the drive shaft and bolt right in or would modifications be necessary? Any idea how big a deal it is to dig into the 8LL? Again, thanks for any ideas, knowledge and suggestions. Greg

  22. That is a nice ride. I think that design will look just as good as a B model looks now in 50 years. That is sharp as hell and who can argue with chrome and red? Nice!
  23. I'm working to get a 49 707A gas engine in the LS85 running and had wrongly assumed that the lack of a mechanical fuel pump meant it didn't have one from the factory. WRONG. I have a 707C engine for parts that came with a pump installed. I know I can get it rebuilt. Does anybody know if it fits the A engine? Also, what the hell drives it? the cam and the third shaft are on the other side of the block? Any help would be appreciated. They appear to mount in the same location on either block. I know I could use an electric unit as long as I make sure I tie it to ignition power and probably a secondary fuel switch to make sure it can get shut off particularly in a fuel leak situation. I prefer the stock hardware whever I can run it reliably. If the 707C unit won't work, does anybody have the unit I would need? Thanks for any light you may be able to shed on the situation. Greg
  24. Is that the back end of a really big lo-bed I see in front of those LJ's? Man I'd love to find one to put behind my B-815! Then I'd love to have the cash for tires, brakes, paint, insurance, FET...some day...right after college x 4.
