  1. some of them had a drain plug right in the bottom metal radiator hose. this is the metal part of the hose that attaches between the engine and radiator with two short pieces on either end.
  2. Id like to find me a nice single axle lowboy to pull behind my B613T. Paul Vanscott had one few years back when i bought my R model off him. might have to see if he still has it. tried to buy a few of them i knew about in my area. scrappers got to them first.
  3. single axle B42T weighs about 8400lbs with a fifth wheel. might lighter than a B61. wrecker body looks heavy, probably another 3000lbs there. dont expect to break any speed records with a B42. against the governor they were got about 52 gutless mph. looks like a solid truck tho as far as cab and sheetmetal. if you can get it cheap, repower it with a diesel and youll have a nice truck. or buy my 413 big block dodge off me haha.
  4. didnt say i wanted Mack with a moparts Vinny. i had a 413 in my B613 when we got it, still have the engine in the garage. its brand new. jsut wanted a firetruck b model bad and dont wanna pay 20 grand for one and that one is unique
  5. so i sent him an offer, he sent me back a counter offer for $2250. before i could even say yes, he sold it for $2500 to someone else? WTF
  6. take the outside door handle off and the outside lock, then the round plate for the stop, roll the window down all the way, then all the screws all the way around and the four from the latch in the jamb. leave the inside door handles on! that way you can push the inside handle forward and move the striker from the latch up and slide the panel up and forward. takes some practice, takes a lot of practice to put the damn thing back together after it painted and not scratch all the new paint off the edges.
  7. yup, i collect them, i estimate i have around $3000 to $4000 worth of them now, haha. thinkin about seriously puttin them on our home owners insurance
  8. boy Mike, hell of a deal there haha. i dont have a problem explainin it to the other half cause she wants a B model firetruck cause she is a volunteer firefighter. might have some splainin to do at the grandparents storage lot tho haha
  9. ok so its been relisted yet again and i put an offer in on it. would really like to have it to restore it . probably wont come near what hes askin for it but always wanted a Bmodel firetruck. sorry if i stepped on anyone toes in here haha
  10. stayed up myself last night watchin Moonfire on youtube. the younger guy seemed aweful tough on that old quad box. the blonde guy(Charles napier) was an actor in a lot of 80's movies and stared in the Dukes of Hazzard and the A Team often.
  11. anyone know if you can still get a Lund visor for an R model?
  12. i drilled mine thru the cab and mounted it with stainless nut and locknuts when i had the headliner out. couldnt bring myself to cobbing a self tapping screw thru my cab. only ones i used the self tapers on were the winshield posts. all of the bolts you cab get to but a few are a real pain. i taped the nut in a ,ong wrench and reached in between the sheetmetal. i ddint put the center support in thru the windshields and it does vibrate in the wind a little. also make sure you test fit it before painting. probably need to trim a 1/4 inch off around the outside cab lights. i know i did.
  13. township up here in upstate Ny use to have two B422 single axle plow trucks. dont know where the other went but my friend bought the one for parts, had a brand new engine it it.was rotted bad from plowin and spreadin salt all its life. he wouldnt sell it. then one day seen the remains in the junkyard with the engine intact. we went down and bought the double over drive baby quad 18 speed out of it and the rear end. lookin back wish she bought thr whole frame . all the sheetmetal was gone off it by then. was an odd truck. had no front brakes on it and had aluminum front spoke hubs with chrome mack caps. only aluminum front spokes i have ever seen.
  14. i think id leave it original myself. probably end up in the well cared for Mahan Collection
  15. seems the prices of all those used Macks are up there pretty good. nice sheet metal on that B61 tho but not for 14000 for an unrestored truck
  16. speakin of N models. anyone know who owns the Tidewater Mack N model and B68 that Matt Pfahl restored for them and they use to tote parts to shows with? i know they were both for sale with pretty high prices at one time with and without the bodies. Just wonderin who ever wound up with them.
  17. thats a hard one, seen them both ways. seen the fuller mounted just to the engine bell housing with the rear of the engine being mounted with the four holes on either side of the bell housing from the engine. also seen the fuller mounts mounted where the Mack mounts are drilled in the frame. hard to really say until you get under there. we made our own mounts to mount a modern triple countershaft roadranger in a 66 R609T
  18. depends what the gas transmission is. if its a TRD72 series it would bolt up but the transmission and hangers might have to be moved back. would be easier with a doner truck as u would still need mounts, radiator and read ends
  19. i was not too fond of the guy that owned the B70. sorry if its someone on this site but he acted like he wanted to sell it but was gonna see who would pay the most. sure it was a nice survivor, but still was cobbed, someone stretched the frame poorly and it still had a 707 in it with a gas rear end. not bad but not something your gonna junp in and do 65 with and get decent fuel mileage. he also seemed to have the attitude like he was the only one around who knew anything about a B model. kinda rubbed me the wrong way.
  20. wow, thata back when big trucks actually blew black smoke when workin, not just souped up daddy paid for diesel pickups that young punks are turnin the pumps up on and leavin a gof at stop lights haha
  21. that green R600 was sweet. so was the red ED parked right behind it. also the Blue Arrow B70 was pretty nice. was a solid truck but had a gas hog 707 in it. sounded good tho. think the last offer he has was $4500 for it. i saw it leaving on a wrecker but dunno if he sold it. also saw the prototype truck comin back empty, dunno who they delivered it to. i spotted that white r model water truck on the way back also Vinney. did u see the green 780's R model with flat bed on it on 81 on the way down or back?
  22. definately a RR. looks like a R96 maybe?
  23. Mcbride sounds familiar. theres an old guy here in town whos about 70 and still drive milk tanker for green truckin GTI. they have the odd colored Macks. he told me about it. if i see him tomorrow ill ask him.
