  1. What do you mean by you moved the thermostat up higher? I'm trying to doctor on mine to get the a/c temp down. I'm blowing 40-50 degrees at the vent. I took my thermostat apart to try and adjust on the spring, but there's no adjustment screw like my buddy's CH has. I'm glad you decided to keep your RD. I'm going to try to get another 40 years out of mine.

  4. Red Dot offers a factory style dash unit, for around $1200. I believe it includes the compressor, lines, expansion valve, dryer, and condensor. You could go with a universal between the seats style unit, which in my opinion does a better job for less money, but I'm a stickler for keeping it factory looking.
  5. That's a beautiful F model. I'm glad y'all decided to keep the spokes. Looks just like it's being put together on the Mack assembly line!
  6. That's the million dollar question. Right now the RD is the only one earning its keep. I think I'm going to trade the RS for a day cab R model. Then, it and the MH will most likely take turns pulling a 22' steel Fruehauf dump trailer. I don't imagine I'll work the Hendrickson, although my dad and I were discussing how cool it would look pulling my old Miller tilt top lowboy with his '62 D6B on it, so who knows?
  7. Cool, I'm a little ignorant when it comes to non-Macks. If I buy this one, it'll be the first truck I've ever owned that wasn't a Mack. Thanks for the info, Al!
  8. Cool, I thought I'd seen pics of them with butterfly hoods. What would the model designation for a truck like this be? I don't know much about them. There were a couple of tandem dump trucks running around down here in the 90's, but they had IH Fleetstar cabs instead of the R series cab.
  9. Looks like there's plenty of room under the hood. I bet it's gonna be easy to work on. I figured the hood would open sideways like a B model, but it tilts forward, and the fenders stay with the frame. The hood is surprisingly, very light. It's a neat little truck.
  10. I was thinking the same thing, Al. Did they see that as an improvement? Lol
  11. Thanks for flopping it back over on its wheels, OD. I'd post a lot more stuff if I could figure out how to post the greasy side down with an iPhone.
  12. I mentioned to my grandpa in law the other day that I recalled seeing an old Hendrickson pulling a hopper bottom sitting in line at the elevator in Fair Oaks, Arkansas 10 or 12 years ago. He knew the truck and told me it had been running up til a couple of years ago. Turns out, it's sitting under a farm shed 2 miles from my house. The farmer bought it from his uncle in Illinois about 20 years ago, where it was hauling coal. He down sized a year or so ago, and the truck sold at auction to a scrapper. When the owner found out where it went, he went into town, bought it back for a few hundred bucks more than it sold for, and drove it home to keep it from being cut up. We went to meet him and check it out today. It's got a 238 and a Road Ranger 10 speed. Looks like it has center point steering. I've got it bought, just have to come up with the funds when dirt work picks back up.
  13. I guess I need to look on my value liner, it may be mounted to the cab too, I can't remember.
  14. There's a linkage rod on roller bearings mounted to the back of the motor. The pedal pushes a rod that rolls the cross rod, and another works the governor on the pump.
  15. Scott, I don't have a cutoff like you're looking for, but if you find one and don't have to trade yours in, I might be interested in your 4.64's and Dayton hubs and wheels. Are they 22.5 or 24.5?
  16. You can buy those Mack hood mounting bolts on eBay. I think I bought a set for around $10.
  17. Does All Truck in Baton Rouge not have any housings?
  18. Is that the old Crisp truck from West Memphis? If so, it'd be a heck of a note to have to haul it back to Arkansas. Lol
  19. Interesting, it looks like Autocar and Kenworth were their biggest influences. Not a bad looking truck at all.
  20. I doubt Mack would have the insulation. I've used Dynamat extreme on floors and firewalls with great results. I haven't gotten motivated enough yet to pull the headliner but I'm sure it would do just fine.
  21. I think they went to a chassis mount CAC in '82, and the 4 valve came in '84-'85. I had an '87 R model with a blown up motor so I dropped in a 2 valve 350 from an '82 model. I sold the truck but I still borrow it from time to time from my friend, and it will straight up SMOKE my 4 valve. I think it's got the peppiest throttle of any truck I've driven. The MH I got from Mr. Harbison seems to be running a close second.
  22. Good luck, I've been dump trucking a long time and Mack is definitely the way to go! I usually set my chains to where the gate will open about 4 to 5 inches when spreading SB2. I've never used my chains hauling asphalt. Sounds like you have the spreader box figured out already.
  23. That LT is sweet. I'd shine that ole Cummins up and keep running it with the hood sides off.
