  1. I know, I just get really irritated at seeing the "You youngins suck" comments lol. I love and respect my elders, but I don't get along with the cranky ones if you catch my drift. The bean counters are absolutely the worst, it's almost always an upper management issue that drives away good employees; as they say, crap rolls downhill.
  2. Allow me to throw my hat into the ring. I'm a Gen Z 26 year old that worked 3 years at a fleet shop and 3+ as a parts salesman at a Mack dealership. There were absolutely times were a jerry rigged repair worked perfectly, but there were many times were jerry rigging did nothing but waste time. Sure, lots of people my age are dumb as a rock and couldn't think outside the box to save their lives, but you also have to consider we might not have been raised to know how to do such things. I'm an example of that, my dad rest his soul was not a wrench turner in the slightest, so I didn't learn much through him. My grandad was probably the best welder/metalworker South Carolina has seen and was absolutely the kind of man that could make a mountain into a mole-hill with a little ingenuity. Me, I've had to learn as I go, either by people taking me under their wing or me just observing from a distance. Another reason we don't jerry rig often is company rules. Doing something like heating an excavator cylinder to bend it back on company time could very quickly earn you a one way trip to The Job Search™. But then when the bean counters notice equipment sitting idle waiting for parts, they pressure their underlings, who pressure the actual workers. Such is the way of modern corporate America. I'm just tired of hearing my generation dragged through the mud about not being as good as previous generations. Maybe if we had been RAISED BETTER, we could have stood a chance.
  3. To my knowledge, you should only need the gasket. It fails pretty often unfortunately, it's a crappy design.
  4. We've had several geartrain failures on MP engines the three years I've been here. I don't remember how many were MP7's or 8's, but I do know the air compressor gear was almost always involved. I despise the rear gear train design, it's a massive headache for the tech working on the crap.
  5. I wouldn't have known what the H model I saw at the recent truck show was if it wasn't for BMT. It's got a face only a mother could love, but it's an interesting glimpse into the past for sure.
  6. I just saw that, goes from 713° EGT to 260° at the DOC inlet, then up to 666° after DOC? Can't help but wonder if it's the temp sensor.
  7. No, you don't. They're basically just a steering wheel holder at best, and half can't even do that right.
  8. You're actually in my territory. If you need any parts ordered, let me know.
  9. They're available now, there's not a lot in the system, but they're available.
  10. Being born in the late 90's gives me a unique perspective on media of the time, especially considering we weren't exactly rich growing up. I had a lot of kids books similar to the modern example above, and I also had several like the older book up there. Being into big trucks and construction equipment growing up gave me plenty of opportunities to read books with very detailed info that went over my head, until it didn't lol. The huge difference in media between even my generation and the newest is the intent. 99% of modern child entertainment is created solely to grab and hold their attention to generate revenue, with most of the left-adjacent messages existing only because that brings even more revenue through kickbacks and such. The only good kids' show I know of is Bluey, but I only know what friends and family have told me about it, I don't have kids. As a kid, my shows were made to either teach lessons or skills like simple problem solving, or because the creators had a vision they wanted to share. Corporate greed has killed creativity, and in its stead we have the garbage that is the modern entertainment industry.
  11. PAI EKY-3179OEM, Mack OEM 20706394. The Mack might end up being cheaper depending on your dealer.
  12. I used a 2001 ETECH 460 as a reference, and found a cam kit on PAI #ECK-9009E.
  13. I haven't seen a truck so far with #1 injection line being different from the others, normally all are the same part number. Of course, there could be an outlier, but one being different doesn't sound normal. Did a previous owner only replace one or something?
  14. Your truck is an EPA04 model, no DPF. 07 would have one.
  15. I can't look the truck up using the serial, the last 6 of the VIN would let me find out for you though.
  16. cruiseliner, I don't know how I didn't see this post before, hopefully you've been able to find them since August! Manwithaplan is right, those numbers you gave us cross to the Napa 3218 and 3219 respectively.

    Regen

I doubt the AHI nozzle/7th injector is clogged if the regen went that far before failing, and there's just so many reasons as to why. The PM sensor could be faulting, DPF differential pressure sensor, the DPF itself might be too far gone, there's no telling without being able to diag the truck itself. It's complicated, which is the biggest downfall of the emissions system; it keeps owners from repairing their own truck more often than not, and makes the dealerships and OEM a LOT of money while they throw parts at it because none of their techs are properly equipped and trained to do anything else. Not like their managers would let them spend extra time to diag properly, Volvo Uptime is all about speed you know!

    2006 CV713

For some reason I think I remember a 2006 in our shop with an MP7, but I can't find it in our case history...
  19. I don't know a way offhand to look up with just the serial number, but Im asking around to see if someone with more experience knows. What I could do is start an eService case with the VIN of the truck and give them the numbers you listed here, I'm sure something will give them enough info to tell me.
  20. I think he was just yanking his friend's chains with the air ride comment, but I see where he's coming from on extending the frame on that truck, it's really short back there to the point he was having some clearance issues with his lowboy trailer. I don't have a problem with him extending the frame a little to make it usable, and I have a feeling he has enough appreciation for old Macks as to not stretch it like those Pavement Princess Peterbilts we share a dislike of.
  21. I'd go with the PAI studs, there's no reason to let Mack bend you over unless you really want the SS studs. I have customers that had good success with the PAI ones.
  22. He mentioned this site in the video too, I started following him around the time I followed his friend Diesel Creek. He's got a pretty cool Superliner II with an E9 he transplanted into it too.
  23. At least it's an option!
