  1. Agree'd fjh.. definately need more info.. I had gotten to the point with these compalints, if I dont see an obvious issue with drive line yokes, bearings, and shaft's,, I go ahead and pull the side cover on the rears.. Power divider peanuts and cams have been a common cause for these noises as well.. OK, now we wait.. Jojo
  2. I too have replaced/repaired Mack rears, for the same issues.. More rears than tranny's for this complaint.. the drive shaft is a hollow pipe that carries sound to the transmission...
  3. my advice is to not tear into the tranny.. drain the oil from the top of the rear rear end into a clean pan and see what comes out, then pull the side cover and inspect the bevel gears.. the drain plug is at the bottom left corner, hard to see for a first timer..
  4. before I go to the synchronizer, have you rebuilt the range cyilinder, or at least looked at it? I'm still on the fence about this.. I have seen this many times and it was the rear end gears sending the sound through the driveshaft to the tranny, and it will fool you.. Mack rears??
  5. well that sounds like a worn sliding clutch. what gears in high range are doing this? and does it do it in the low range gears.. ?
  6. ok, now it makes sense.. that transmission does not shift like a typical 8/9 10.. and so on. so when you pre-select before going to 4th, is it not shifting right as you pass through nuetral?
  7. I hear ya' O.D. I try hard to get my wife to understand why I think like I do.. She wont let me buy a few square body chevy trucks.. I know I can buy them cheap here and go through them a little and re-sell them.. On the other hand, I can still sneak in an engine and tranny here and there and put them in totes for a later day. I just bought a 305 with a 700R4 attached. runing/ driving unit.. The seller gave me all the take off parts as well, so I now have 2 Quadrajets, and aluminum intakes, and such.. I'm not a big money guy, so these little treasures mean a lot to me.. BTW... your Int. is beautiful.. You done good sir... Jojo

Hey, piss on them man if they’re not responding, we don’t need them anyway

  9. Got My Coin today.... Awesome ! My favorite Mack Model.... Superliner..
  10. Bob, I figured you would be using a Rasp to hand sand the fender... What happened.. I have rasp's that will cut fast to get it to a semi smooth base. then use the D.A. Proud of you bud,, Iv'e been a slacker on my '48....
  11. can you post the transmission model? 4th is not the first high range gear in most 10 spd. tranny's. I suspect you have an Eaton FRO16210C.. or possibly a T-2010 Mack..
  12. seems like if you do that right Paul, there wont be a bulge in the sleeve,, sounds better than welding it up and turning it back down.... I like it..
  13. Here I go again.... Mech, you talk about using a computer to diagnose issues..... one of my co-workers rolled a laptop to a truck to diagnose why one of the headlights was out.. He did that first... yes, I had to learn that these new turds have L.C.M.'s.... light control modules... in his case it was a bad bulb... I smacked my forehead and asked where the hell am I??
  14. I was taught to use an Arbor press to install them, and i would buff the leading edge with emory cloth to reduce the risk of cutting the seal, and I also put a small kiss of RTV on the inside of the sleeve to seal any imperfections on the yoke, shaft, whatever.... ya know what i mean?
  15. I like the way you think Mech..
  16. I would love to send one to Mechohaulic,,, But...... He said no... Barry are you able to add one more to my bill and send it to me? I will send it to mech..
  17. SKF is still making them Mech.. Speedy Sleeves.. I use the tin cup for small parts, i glue a magnet to the bottom of them, works great.
  18. good deal Bob.. I didnt want to confuse the thread, just steal a bit of it
  19. Bob just making sure you realize what I posted was about the steering box on your truck, I think that was what you were looking into fixing.. jojo
  20. I gotta say Nick.. I really like the info you post about diagnostic laptops.. I myself am out of the repair business, however, this info is surely valuable for others on here.. Good job sir.. Jojo
  21. Bob, when you take yours apart, look at the sector shaft, and make sure the seal didnt cut a groove into it.. other wise you wil waste time and money, some shops can weld the groove and then turn it back down.. Jojo
  22. what a waste of a beautiful woman...
