  1. lest we all NOT forget this Monday =9/11/01 or this Friday = 9/15/23 :: POW /MIA recognition day. so 🎖️many innocent lives lost 🏅
  2. In todays world I do my best not to set myself up . it's no longer a tranny ;; always a transmission . LOL
  3. years back I was told to "take a shot of Jagermeister each day, will never have stomach problems". can't say I had one everyday but considering the "abuse" physically /mentally I have put this body through it may work. never ate/slept right . single had the worse eating habits. mechanic had definitely the worse sleeping habits. never get shots(needles) for flu/ covid or other illnesses . will probably change now that I wrote this though. and "knock on wood"(hitting my head at moment) ,don't get sick much.
  4. I never do the boasting thing. for me it is/was an internal feeling of satisfaction (pride). going from Mack trucks to baskin robbins which ran a fleet of DD and so fortunate to have been mentored by one of the best DD mechanics , after so many trials and errors of setting a Detroit Diesel fuel rack ; to watch each injector flip at the same time always got from me "yes you mother fu--kr got ya. get each head perfect then go to the governor to get both heads .never got a 318 to turn stack tips blue like Jimmie my mentor did.
  5. another sign of the times I guess would be something so simple as to say after an engine build that goes 100% correct I have pride in my work.. the pride idea seems to have gone in a totally different direction. so many times after an engine rebuild (total) the anxiety of hearing it first start , check for leaks , stare at it and (when no one around ) want to pat yourself on the back . thinking back , I was more excited after an engine start up for first time then sitting in hospital waiting room while wife was giving birth to our daughter!! I know "your a sick puppy" LOL
  6. If the concentration of engine work didn't wear you out it means you don't give two sh-ts about you work. the physical of mechanics isn't always the worse part ;; the mental fatigue is also a major factor. engines lookin good. i sure do miss the days of engine/ transmission building , unlike todays world of "throw it out put in a new one"
  7. there is no such thing as "done almost nothing so far "" ..you are pondering the next forward move. it may take a few hrs to ponder;; which may result in "studying" the TV set for positive info. and we all know studying the TV set CAN NOT be done properly if one finds themselves thirsty. just sayin LOL
  8. are you still going with dark green outside dark brown inside ???? going to be a dump again or 5th wheel . make heck of a flat bed

    Ups

I lost interest in modern day sports years ago mainly due to $$$ paid. baseball is on fake grass, with high tech watching every move. retired sports "stars" can't do cleaning commercials any more ;; they don't get uniforms dirty. LOL black /white TV ::Ruth; Marris; Mantle etc. the fun days. for the UPS people and others being behind the wheel deserves proper pay in todays world. my brother drove UPS doubles for yrs. he left; too many rules. they had it figured as to what foot was used to step in vehicle first to save time and other "cost cutting : factors.
  10. I never go by the reading when first taking out a dipstick. car/truck or even the JD 318 mower. especially the JD. tractor sits all night in shed - am pull oil stick ; check it ; wipe clean reinsert / recheck level is slightly different. don't know why. seems sitting all night same as recheck :: nope . doesn't seem likely a vacuum condition could exist. which is reason I put forward the though of removing dipstick partial or fully = recheck in am or when ever unit is going to be started.
  11. WELCOME ;; you came to the right place for info. sounds like you have a fantastic Mack. pictures always encouraged .
  12. I agree with no/bad thermostat. a faulty shutterstat would result in over heat if shutters were required to open and didn't. have seen thermos that came apart resulting in basically a non functioning thermo. should be a shut off valve near firewall on line going to shutter stat; try closing it to keep shutters open. temp possibly will not even hit 140. pull thermo housing off ; if thermo is there but broken apart attempt to find all the broken parts. most time the brass rivet wears out , that's lost in system .water pump impellers take care of it. as stated above the rubber seal has been found jammed also keeping thermo in open position.
  13. even a quick fix solution would be greatly appreciated to let responders know . nothing else to let future questioners see possible fixes for their units. and for us ole folk to reassure us " see we haven't completely lost it "!!
  14. have you tried leaving the dipstick out a little or completely out cover port with clean rag/towel?? install next am check level. best I got since these are "new" to me
  15. the front damper is actually a balancer . internal "fluid" by engineering thinking helps balance rotating parts. 6 hole no off set due to the timing marks were on flywheel which had only one bolt pattern that lined up and a dowel pin , based on the knuckles that are thinned out from spinning fan , I would much rather check timing with old method of using fly wheel markings. yrs back I got into practice of painting every other blade white or yellow on black fans made it much easier to see spinning blades.
  16. every day that goes by; looks like no follow up results to be had . sure would like to have found out the answer.
  17. was wondering why couldn't use balancer. since heart surgery in '15 the two fingers on left hand haven't worked . worse then pins and needles feel. and I'm left-handed ; it's a bit--h when I drop something and can't bend down enough to pick it up. saw a penny on the ground last week = I kicked it across the parking lot till I found something to lean against to pick it up.
  18. sadly they are all the same ; and politics not allowed .
  19. doubt he even cares about ukraine . it's his way of sending//spending billions of $$$ on paper that never gets to intended war effort. tooo many pockets to fill and people to buy . someone had to get paid to clean WH floors of that messy white powder!! and keep their mouth shut while doing it.
  20. could be a "diamond in the rough" . defiantly a lot of $$$$$. how far away from your resto location is one factor??? combo unit to haul alone will be $$ . basically as stated asking price way tooo high for what it appears to be. priced better it could be a training model for you to work with hoping for another unit , it can possibly turn out to be a parts truck for second unit. make a heck of a lawn art to some .
  21. don't want to hide those positive memories . seems I need an extra drink at night to forget the present day situations;; not the past. not saying past was all positive -just feels like more past positive then future.
  22. got lost in the moment going back to page one of this post started many years ago. interesting facts and pictures. seem to be a lot of CT input and pictures. D8 I have run , worked on which included changing cutting edge in 90 degree sun . IH TD20 I put a number of hrs on during blizzard of "78 .
  23. two- tone green tractor is a familiar truck= John Ovesney and son.now in 2023 John's son does the HD moving. honored to have met and talked to John at the brooklyn CT truck show this yr. did a few hrs yrs passed working for John and his fleet.
  24. the concerning thing to me is , I admit these are comical and funny ; reality is most are true and that I find seriously scary . How could what was always thought to be the leader =not ruler- of the world have become the laugh stock of the world .
  25. yes I would believe 1969 was the first year.
