  1. I have been shown to make an X from one ear to opposing eye and same for other side. where the two imaginary lines cross --BANG . we never dipped entire hog in CAST IRON water pot. hog went on large table and BURLAP bags were placed on the hog with hot water poured on burlap. excessive hot water and skin turned . we used candle scrapper for hair removal. boy did I get my self in trouble one year when I had gloves on due to cold out door temp. old timer said "YOU NEVER WEAR GLOVES!! you will never get glove off in time if hand goes in boiling water tub. pull glove off and only thing will be my bones =no skin. so much knowledge the old timers had in such a simpler day. so much common sense is lost todays world.
  2. 194 not 195 sorry.
  3. another change having me shake my head and wonder;; your saying can't pull the twist lock and install a new 195 bulb ?? for the younger generation 195 was the bulb number in my day.
  4. "no power scotty" have to admit the part of star trek that had my interest was Lieutenant O'hura . she can pilot my ship any day.
  5. keep up the excellent work ; I'm still working on possibility of driving to NC , spend time with my younger Sister and coffee/ beverage with some BMT members.
  6. it ONLY goes to 14K ; that means it can /should go more.!! sorry couldn't help myself. long day of work and I"M COUNTING ON TURNING CLOCKS BACK tonight.. us old people need our ni nite time.
  7. another reason glad I'm "over the hill" and short timer on this planet. another 25-30yrs those youngsters still alive will look at their next generation and say "what the fu---. glad my parents aren't here to see this, they had enough problems with the beatles bring over the long hair.
  8. missed a part= Charley Snith was the old timer at Mack who ran the wrecker and was my wrecker mentor. LOL learned a lot and fortunately forgot a lot . many calls became a "you did what !!!!.
  9. seems I always had a "fascination " for HD wreckers. basically it's man and machine against "the world" . million dollar wrecker is worthless if operator didn't have skill to operate it correctly. while at Mack I was fortunate to work the wrecker ('57 Diamond T with homemade wrecker =power up and watch out on down free fall ). Smitty (Charles Smith ) was a piece of work! in a positive way ; EXCEPT when he was pis--ed off. heard him swearing watch out tools went every where. on one bad day, I was on a creeper = swearing started :: I had NO WHERE TO RUN. watched as wrenches scaled the garage floor. LOL the good days can NEVER be relived . so sad. nice wrecker
  10. I've seen their units on the highway ;; not that one. DMM's were "new" to the work force when I left Mack. places like O&G / Hi HO were just starting to take delivery. of all the Mack iron I set up/ delivered ;; never drove the front discharge Mack mixer .
  11. but my TELEPHONE didn't beep to say the little water can is on in my car dash. "I saw the little water can on the dash = didn't know it was important". interrupt a phone text while driving !! unheard of. self driving vehicles may be safer for youngsters.. I thought the self driver was checking stuff. !! sorry kids .
  12. little "fluff and buff "; paint a dinosaur face on boom the kids would have a great time looking at it
  13. it also could just be the angle first picture was taken. this side view isn't looking as off set. no matter what angle ; it's amazing work of art.
  14. whether it was cattle or hogs , the butchering was part of farmer life. couple hr project never . day started out by 4 am to start the kettle boiling for hogs. being younger at the time it was usually my assignment to do the hack saw part. 6-700 lb hog was a long way from nose to tail; and it better be cut right on center;; the oldies were watching. best part was from the shot fired to meat on table we never lost sight of meat. 1/4 sections AFTER hanging in cooler were brought to a butcher having his garage set up with all the proper clean machinery. cut as we requested and wrapper all. we double wrapped after. and the meat did taste different
  15. hopefully more pictures of the retriever are posted. the rear boom assy looks more then massive.
  16. based on the wrecker is local , my bet is the Portland is Portland .CT.
  17. todays challenge would be to find someone that ==! knows how to check it:: 2= can figure out how to open the hood ;not the trunk; 3= doesn't say " I wait till the cute little water can shows up on the dash. or I hear a funny noise
  18. it's defiantly a TOTALLY different world. i've seen triaxle dumps going for 300 plus , but they have all the "show stuff" = all the lights , fancy wheels etc. a basic unit ??? but when an engine is 30K, turbo 3 K ;;;; glad I'm out . I'd have to double the heart meds. years back rebuilding a set of Mack rears , " had $2600.oo in parts which I sweated out hoping to get paid. 2600 today might buy some bearings.. PAY ATTENTION EVERYONE lets NOT go off topic. 😄
  19. noticed before the Holidays a straight truck parked in the lot of tractor supply with big sign and a line of people buying steaks. couldn't possibly have to do with TS selling grills !! miss the days of having my Grandparents farm and raising my own, figured the total cost for one beefer from raising to butcher/table ;; $.25 (twenty five cents ) a pound. don't do a lot of beef and burgers much now ; only due to work less and holding off the pounds gets much harder with age.
  20. still a beautiful comparison photo. still looks to be a lot of rear over hang on the '73 , almost as though a tag axle is missing.
  21. call it grandpa and grandson Macks . had to go grab my heart pills after reading 300K. that's insane (I guess). don't repeat this LOL : Matt Yours is better . the B-73 may have taken time and $$ to look as it does in the picture. but reality is the 73 was worth it. the "plastic Mack " == time will tell. jus sayin.
  22. no matter what the situation , sad part is some one always ruins what could be a positive for others.
  23. If the "young kids " can show me a positive reason for not staying in the past , I'll advance to modern times . as of todays world the past even with it's ups and downs was a better place. mentally I'll stay there ; if I can remember it. LOL
  24. any positive news on the Mack models yet ??
