  1. simple sentence :: an engine brake in principle slows a vehicle down by opening an exhaust valve AT THE PRECISE TIME . opening the exhaust valve which on combustion would force the piston down now uses the piston to create drag on the crankshaft NOT power stroke. speed the process up engine becomes a "boat anchor to drive train. the noise heard is due to combustion energy going out muffler system. on a jake system , an add on unit is placed on top of rocker assy; reason for green spacer between valve cover and block. spacers(flat washer) are placed on top of the exhaust valve spring arrangement for the two jake plungers to open exhaust valve before compression . the dynatard (flop at first introduction ::I was there ) utilized a modified exhaust rocker ; reason for the 3 "pregnant bulges on rocker cover. when activated the modified rocker filled with oil reducing the valve clearance on exhaust holding valve open. adjustment was very critical . dynatard got a bad review due to people expecting to be thrown to windshield from stopping / hold back ; didn't happen. ENGINE brake no matter who's holds open the exhaust valve just before compression stroke. exhaust brake is totally different. jake is called an exhaust brake ; technically wrong. exhaust brake goes on the piping system and is a valve closing exhaust system creating back pressure. in the good days you wanted good fuel pressure (totally unrelated ) change your fuel filters.
  2. better hurry on the curio ;; there are MORE on their way. 😄🤣
  3. there was ONLY ONE authorized first gear LOMBARD trucking B first gear cast made . I held/ looked at it. $1500.oo asking price. bought a replica instead. Have been honored to know MR. Lou Lombard as a friend . my replica first gear Lombard trucking B -model was displayed at Mr. Lou Lombards funeral.
  4. far from "immature " , that's the case then see me in diapers (NEVER). over 5000 hot wheels Till the pathetic auction of '11;;; 50-60 Mack first gear New England fleet B models . ALL the Mack 1/25th models built, every Mack diecast made!!!
  5. F Y I ;nothing wrong (yrs back ) for a Canadian Mack truck. I went to Canada for a customer and found a well built R-600 / 4 axle 350/ 12 speed Mack tractor for his low-bed hauler.
  6. can I get an AMEN . right on sir.
  7. Diamond T was diamond T and reo was reo; mix the two is same as mixing jack daniels with wine. ????? the diamond T emblem and vehicle under it was great. at Mack started out with "57 Diamond T, not a combo T /reo. just a thought.
  8. THANK YOU for explaining these things to an ole man.
  9. OH here we go with all these letters again !! DEW/AI/CGI . still working on figuring the last ones.
  10. they are Purlux lights if memory is correct. maybe Perlux ???
  11. stare at the picture puts the good days to mind. went back to my profile pictures "days gone by" two pictures of the yard on south Lenard st Mack rented for parking. two orange DM600 steel nose parked in front of Bozzutos "new " F models. also a steel nose 600 carrying the long wheel base MB. your bumper "fish bowls" make me laugh every time. to have a dollar for every set I installed back then.
  12. two outside shafts from front case to rear;(for compound stick) do they not have seals ;; 1in od ? on rear half ??? front half is external /dry. recall shaft would be worn resulting in slight oil seepage.
  13. don't think as an Owner Operator he would beat the truck ; 34's on a triaxle unless on farm hauling hay ;; not best combo. just sayin.
  14. ever notice the word "IF" so small but means SOOO much. IF only I !!!
  15. went back to square one read every post (some twice). 34's not built to carry 55 capability. expense of adding cross bars to rear(s) will accomplish what ? feeling of security to carry more. saddles are wearing prematurely just says "I'm not made for this" . so the rears won't (shouldn't) walk ;; will over load take it's toll on rears themselves ???
  16. seals for two back half input shafts ??
  17. "back in the day";; multipliers were in the same desk drawer as computers. rule of thumbs was -- tighten that S O B as much as possible. having a unit with only 34 k suspension . load shouldn't require sway bars. install later on in yrs would defiantly be more costly.
  18. now there a memory maker. unlike todays iron (most of which are automatics) hardest part of rebuilding a tri/quad/duplex was picking the right color paint for the case outside. a self taught with mentors is knowledge never found in books. how lucky I consider myself to be involved back then. today it's parts changers not many rebuilders. units looking good!
  19. UPS did run the wet clutch. one customer (while I was at Mack ) did have a F model with wet clutch. took some getting used to. basically a treadle(brake) pedal on the floor. adjusted properly ; light pressure pushed the linkage.
  20. OK talked me into it;; my first ride had hole in floor ; faster you pedaled faster you went. lot of callouses on feet. the stone wheels didn't ride nice either. think the salesman's name was Fred ??? (flintstone}
  21. 20 years ago !!! try 45 + years ago never considered things to come being this way. it was a major change to see a 250hp engine replaced by 300. now 550- 600+ common .
  22. don't recall ever stopping there. 180mm has to be around half way point. or if I did stop was for fuel and go. going up or back here , always had topped off gas tank and 5 gal can in back. also correction it is exit 305 in houlton not 302.
  23. I did see that! hope they don't ruin u-tube like everything else which is positive. unlike boring TV which finds most getting up going to refrigerator and the pounds; u tube never boring.
  24. doing all the gears isn't always that easy , back in the delivery days of NYC a "co-driver " who couldn't drive had to start out in first no matter what and go through all 10. one time at last delivery aiming down hill ; trailer empty ; he couldn't start out in 2nd might have even used 3rd. what a mess. flat ground having fun all gears ready. back in the Mack days learning myself on the 20's/18 twin sticks always used every gear. picking up two new trucks from new haven truck rental for warranty one a quad other five speed; I took the quad (DM611SX ). I stopped at stop sign other driver behind me (totally wasted on beer) never saw my brake lights cause I used the gears not brakes to stop. he put the two DM rails through the radiator of the R he had. he ruined a good thing. we were paid $10.oo for a two hr trip . $5.oo an hr was major money for me.
